Blue, Blanc and Red all over ~ All Star break looms ~ Detroit Preview

Be smart and study the closest thing to a winning dynasty.
~ ~ ~
They're still one the best teams in the league. Have been for a long time. I give them respect. Habs usually play up (or down) to the teams they meet. Only game on the sched before the All-Star break (TFS™ + Diazling going). Previews from rds, tsn, nhl, antiCanadanetwork.

"There's still a light at the end there," Eller said.
"There are more than 30 games to go and we still
have a lot of faith in this locker-room.
We'll play one game at a time and see what happens."
~ ~ ~
She's prettier in colour.
"Here’s something that’ll blow your mind (sorry that it’s an ad): stare at the colored dots on this girl’s nose for 30 seconds, then quickly look at a white wall or ceiling (or anything pure white) and start blinking rapidly. Congratulations, you just processed a negative with your brain!" (thx Steve)

    3. I met him while he was roaming the halls of McGill the week before the AS game here in Mtl. Friends and I were eating lunch, rcecognized him, and asked if he was lost. He said no, and then hung around and chatted for a few minutes. Other than wishing him luck in the ASG we never even talked hockey. Came across as a good shit.

  2. Can I ask for a little something? That people don't whine and complain about the ASG, just don't watch it if you hate it. Go out, stay in, get drunk, rent a movie, make love, make war, make a cake. Thank you.

  5. I have a good friend here, the only guy I know here I can really talk hockey with. He's a knowledgeable fan who grew up with the Islanders in the 80s. About a year ago when I was back in Canada his hockey emails started to get a little anti-Hab. Of course we always poked fun at each other's teams and debated which dynasty was better (he has this absurd view that the competition was much higher in the 80s). But suddenly the prodding was getting really detailed and he even sent me some youtube clips of Habs players (the little fuckity fuck) and fans doing not so great things. By the time Chara tried to commit genocide on our ice the insults started to border on paranoid, political and even personal. This has continued and since both our teams are pretty terrible I always try to keep hockey talk neutral (ie reallignment and Team Canada).

Anyway, I was out at his place last week and he turned on this hockey pod cast that he told me he had been listening to for 'about a year'. I found it to be kind of silly, fawning over the Bruins and dirty plays in general. Finally I asked who it was. Once he told me it clicked, "Hey, isn't that the guy who writes Puck Daddy?" And he said yup, and he reads that too! So, not wanting to just judge on reputation alone I read some posts on there last night. And all I have to say is IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW. I feel like my friend has bought into FOX news and now I have to try to ween him off. I wondered how he would even know where to look for those anti-Hab videos from 1997 and now I understand. Like Tea Partiers who believe Obama is a Socialist, my friend beleives the Habs are favoured by the refs. I showed him stats proving in the last 5 years Montreal is one of the most penalized team while getting some of the lowest PP chances (odd for a small speedy team) but it was like trying to explain to Glenn Beck that french fries don't actually come from France.

My friend has been brainwashed and what's worse is now all that garbage, that filthy garbage from Puck Daddy, is in my head. He's even basically admitted to being a Tea Bagger with this whole Thomas debacle. It's so sad to see a good hockey fan corrupted by such a hack. Really, I always heard PD was an idiot (not just from this site) but I only ever really read one or two of his rantings in the last few years. I see why he's popular, sport does attract a lot of angry white barbarians who crave violence over competition. But now that he's getting political it's even more creepy. He's gotten my friend believing there is a vast NHL conspiracy favouring the Habs (I mean they can't just finish 8th and get ousted in the first round by themselves!). Now I'm scared he's going to start believing Obama is trying to steal Thomas' silver medal.

    1. Really sad. I know that sometimes it "seems" like there is an anti-Hab conspiracy but I know that it just seems that way to me because I am pro-Hab. I listen to other fans after a controversial hit such as the Brad Marchand hit on Salo, and even that has two perspectives. (Mostly that other players did the same thing and did not get suspended.)

But the real eye-opener is Kerry Fraser. I think every fan thought this guy was biased against his / her team. That should have been a clue. Since I read his blog on the TSN site (truly biased phucks) I think he was objective and it is clear there is stuff that I certainly did not know about reffing a game. Maybe if your friend read some more material like this he could become less paranoid. Or maybe he needs some meds.

  6. I hope the Habs are using this break well. Played on Saturday night, now tonight they have a game then they get, what? another 5 days or so? I don't want to see anyone looking tired tonight that's for sure! Every game is do or die. It's all "must win" from here on in. Beat the teams you should beat then put in a herculian effort to beat the teams no one expects you to beat. Do it night in night out - April will get here soon enough - then you can look up and see what you've accomplished. If they make the playoffs, good for them, if they don't then they probably didn't deserve it. I return to my "parent/teacher" analogy from earlier posts when I say that all I ask for from MY Montreal Canadiens is that they give it their best effort. My oldest is writing exam papers this week and next and when we talked about how he was doing and what marks he'd get I said to him - "I don't care what marks you get as long as when you show me the marks you can look me in the eyes and tell me you tried as hard as you could to get that mark and that you couldn't have done more. If you made some silly mistakes that cost you a few marks, tell me you understand that, don't make them again and we'll move on".

In April, if the Habs can do the same about what happens on the ice from now until then, I will be happy.

    Now GYMFHG!!!

Go Habs Go!! Go Habs Go!!! Go Habs Go!!!!

  7. Price sees his younger teammate’s evident talent, and suggested his critics should take a deep breath.

“He has a lot of potential, he has a few things he needs to sort out … mostly, he’s got to get some more experience,” he said.

FYI, as of this AM, discounting games in hand, on a total points basis we are officially tied for last place in the conference.

Play balls out hockey, make it exciting then blow it up and get someone who knows what they are doing to build for the future.

    That is all.

I really don't think they need to "blow it up". A combination of injuries, under-performing paid like superstar veterans, rookies and sophomores on D, questionable coaCHing and plain bad luck all conspired to fuck this season. It's going to be neck and neck for the rest of the year for the parity teams to finish between 9th and 15th. Personally, I hope the Canadiens pick in the top 5 but that's just me. These bottom teams will just be jockeying back and forth for the rest of the year. Bettman's dream.

As far as the All Star game, I used to enjoy it a long time ago when it was just East versus West and the Canadiens had lots of players in it. Haven't watched it I'll guess since the early 90's. Like Moey said I just do other things.

  11. Price, who returned to practice Tuesday after skipping the Canadiens’ annual skills competition Sunday, said the accident occurred while he was in a scrum following Saturday’s 3-1 win over the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

“I was in a scrum and you guys were giving me the bum’s rush,” Price said. ‘There was equipment lying all over the place and I didn’t see my skate.”

The cut required a few stitches, but Price said he was ready to face the Red Wings Wednesday night."

  19. Habbie friends,

As I may have mentioned, I'm on vacation. Everyone I know here had theirs over the holidays and is working now. Long story short, I bought a bottle of whiskey and thought, "Yes, let's be classy and have a drink before retiring for the evening in my silk pajamas." That was 8 hours ago.

I won't go into specifics but it's 5am and I'm listening to AntiChrist Superstar and looking for my high school crush on facebook. Seriously though, it's a great album. Also, for all the outrage over facebook's lack of privacy a guy can't even get an address for google earth hover-stalking.

Anyway, I made a promise that I would watch the game tomorrow/today/soon because I like the Wings. I guess I have passed the threshold of staying up all night at this point. Oh gosh, I better cancel my appointment at the grocery store in the morning buying a single frozen dinner (note: I wish they had frozen dinners here).

Wait, I just got accepted on facebook by a friend of a friend of the brother's cousin's dog walker's godmother's neighbour of my crush. Phase one: COMPLETE.

I'm gonna pump up the Red Wings tires a little. Right now, classiest team in the league even with Bertuzzi in their line-up. They were known as the Dead Things in the 70's and 80's until they drafted Yzerman and got a bunch of Russians out from behind the Iron Curtain. They flopped a few times until Scotty Bowman got a hold of them and taught them how to play defence. They've never had a star goalie except for Hasek one season and won Stanley Cups with the likes of Mike Vernon and Chris Osgood in net. So, from the days of Yzerman and Federov to Datsyuk and Zetterberg with Lidstrom anchoring the defence the Red Wings have been a force in the league. They are now what the Habs used to be in the the days of Pollock and Bowman. The Wings have a hierarchy led by Ken Holland with Jimmy Devellano and Jim Nill and obviously one of the best scouting systems in the world. Geoff Molson would be well served to begin the rebuilding of the Montreal Canadiens by hiring management staff of that ilk regardless of language skills. The Montreal Canadiens should not be a team that scrambles year after year to make the playoffs. Greatness starts at the top. Get on it Mr. Molson.

Regarding PFK, Doug MacLean said on Hockey Central today the Habs should NOT trade PK under any circumstances. Top defencemen with skills like his are scarcer than hen's teeth. Even dumb Kypreos agreed. They said a trade like that would have to go through Molson and that if they are going to make another coaching change they have to give that person a chance to work with PK. Smartest thing I've heard out of their mouths in a long time.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Ok Maritmer the ultimate test, would you trade PFK for Huberdeau straight up. I would for the following reasons. Btw I realize we are likely being ripped off, should get some draft picks in addition, but make them an offer they cant refuse, H will get 150 pts in the Q this year.
      1)I am insane
2)You think Jaro's agent was a pain meet PFK's. We will not be able to afford him.
3)Montreal needs a French superstar let alone a star, I want to win, but I want to win with elan.
4)We have a great group of defensemen moving up, forwards, still smurfs
