  1. So much goodness. Gonna say Billy Bragg rocks it for me (fuck I miss Joe Strummer) and my fave Dylan tune is 'Ring Them Bells' and lucky me, I get the sweet & sultry Natasha Bedingfield. Only 74 more.

    Peace.

Well I know just scanning through the comments that our topic of the day (yesterday) would be the shit-stained broons, specifically Tim "the fat ass" Thomas. By the way, where was he during the Occupy Movement, I'm sure there were some days which no games were scheduled but I didn't see him camped outside the Whitehouse, nor anywhere else for that matter.

    broons SUCK.

  4. And Happy Chinese New Year (year the dragon), everyone.

  5. Yep, it's lunar new year here and everything is closed. As a bachelor who depends on the giant market and other restaurants in his neighbourhood I was like a lost puppy scouring the back alleyways looking for food last night. Finally had to give up and take a bus across town to the McDonalds. Bought enough mcnuggets to last me till this afternoon. By the grace of Buddha I did finally find a store selling beer, though. Happy year of the Dragon!

  6. Timmeh is a fucking selfish fuck. Got an amittedly second hand story about TT from his AHL days. The guy carpoole with Timmeh to the rink each day. Apparently he had to eventually make an excuse to stop because, "Tim Thomas only wants to talk about one thing: Tim Thomas." I'm also appalled by all the people saying he's brave for standing up for what he believes in. Since when is refusing to meet with someone you disagree with politically brave? Just having an opinion isn't courageous or intelligent. Lots of stupid people have strong opinions. Americans tend to have this belief that you have to use all your freedoms all the time. Sometimes shutting up and taking a picture with the leader of your country is the brave thing to do.

    2. Moeman - I know that you don't often tune into it but I watched L'AC after the win against the leaf on Saturday (I hadn't quite finished my Disarona!). Very strangely (maybe it was the booze?) but it got me thinking about long term with the Habs. The thing about the show was that I really din't understand why all they could talk about was how bad a team mate PFK was. They went on and on about JM's comment that PFK either brings the selfish player or the team player to the rink (depending on which way the wind blows). They all felt that (or least implied) that the Habs would be better off without him. And I don't get this at all. Why the hard on for the one player who continually logs more ice time than anyone else on the team? In only his second season he's being asked to fill some huge boots - but he better not fuck up or he'll get ripped a new one! I hesitate to say this but...if PFK was Mathieu Darche, Francois Gagnon would be blowing him live after every game. And I think a lot of this kind of attitude by the media links into what your pal HF4 was alluding to in his brilliant post yesterday over at the separatist hockey blog.

Now PFK has made some pretty bonehead plays, but he is still a kid and kids make mistakes. If he learns from the mistakes then the Habs will be better off. If he gets ripped for each mistake he makes and doesn't learn then he might as well be traded...but that would be a shame - because with a coach that can teach young players, PFK will learn, and he'll become a better player for it. Watching Big Randy talking to PFK after that brain fart against the Pens and seeing how PFK was (apparently) blaming Gomez reminded me somewhat of my youngest son. When he does something wrong, he'll give us every excuse in the book, other than admit his mistake and take the medicine. So my wife and I are teaching him the right way to accept that he has made a mistake and that he must take the blame. We're not gonna trade him for the kid up the road - we're gonna teach him so that he grows up to be a responsible adult.

And so, I've now come to the conclusion that what the Habs need in a coach is a parent/teacher. Someone who can develop the talent we have so that they can grow up and become responsible members of the greatest hockey franchise in the history of hockey. When they do that, that's when we'll have a team that will win the Stanley Cup again.

    3. Habs management needs to sit these young guys down and tell them;

"Listen kids, we know shit's fucked up right now. We're going to blow it up and start again and in 3 years we expect to be at the top of the league. We believe you can do that for us, but you have to trust us and have patience just like we're going to have patience with you from now on. No more healthy scratches or bench warming. If you are willing to learn from your mistakes then we are prepared to lose games to let you make them. I believe every one of you can be a star in this league and being a hockey star in Montreal is being the largest in life you could ever imagine. It's going to be hard, you're going to have to answer stupid questions and deal with angry fans for a couple of years. But when you lift that Cup as a team, and you WILL, you will be gods among men. You didn't choose obscurity in California, you didn't just tag along on another team's ride. You earned that Cup, just like Lafleur, Dryden, the Rocket, Robinson, Plante and every other Hab whose name is synonymous with success and glory. We're the Montreal fucking Canadiens, a team that has more dynasties than most have Stanley Cups. So make your choice soon, because we have history to write for our grandkids!"

Then Gene Hackman raises his fist, leading deafening cheers.

  8. Everybody needs to chill in and around the Habs. They're having a bad season, everyone needs to accept it, to embrace it.

All the coaches and players around Montreal say they appreciate the "passion" of the fans. I say it's bullshit. They are tired of know-it-all fans and they wish they could just play hockey without being magnified all the time by us, fans and media.

Squid is glad to be gone and he's laughing at this circus. Spacek is actually glad he's gone from the circus as well. Pretty sure Saku is not really missing Montreal. The list goes on...

Just let 'em play hockey, however bad it is for this season...Accept it.

The best way to build a winning team is from within. Bob Gainey and Glen Sather before him have proven that trying to create a team from free agency usually ends in disaster. Gomez, Drury, Squid are but a few examples. The Habs were in disarray to start the year and dug the hole too deep, so let's accept that and move on. Going forward they have a few good pieces to work with and hopefully more on the way. This year's draft should add another valuable piece. Keep Subban unless you something back of equal or greater value and close to the same birth date. I find more and more that the superstars of the league are getting younger. Guys like Vinny and Thornton were much better as 22 year olds than 29 year olds. Stamkos is in his prime right now. So, unless you are getting somebody like Tavares for Subban, I'd hang on to him.

I'd like to see the Habs get even younger next season and let them grow together for a few years. I like what the Rangers have done. Their defence is homegrown with McDonagh added (Grrrrrrr, fucking Gomez) and most of their top forwards like Callahan and Dubinsky are as well. Then you can add a Gaborik or a Richards and blend them in.

There's an old saying: Rome wasn't built in a day. Habs should start using that philosophy.

  13. The problem as I see it is the Habs management/ownership is affraid of rebuilding due to the backlash from the fans. In today's NHL is it actually quite easy to make the playoffs with a mediocre, and even worse, team. And as we've seen both in Montreal and Edmonton (and other cities) recently, you can even make it pretty far just by riding a hot goalie.

The truth is most Hab fans would freak out at the Habs being basement dwellers for 3 years. They'll see Florida and Ottawa and, gasp, Toronto squeeking into the playoffs and scream THAT COULD HAVE BEEN US! Even within the organization, many people don't want to accept a last place team. And that's good, that's what a century of success breeds. But this is a new NHL. The Pens got this good by tanking for a few years. Same with most other teams that have seen success in the last 20 years. That's just how it works with 30 teams, free agency and a salary cap. The only team that seems to perennially beat these odds is the Wings but that's a whole other story.

To make the Habs contenders the management needs to communicate with the fans and the fans and media need to calm the fuck down. Part of the reason why Detroit does so well is because players want to play there. It's just the right balance of stardom and anonymity. Why would a superstar want to play in Montreal if he's going to judged more on his French than his play on the ice? Better yet, why would a young kid want to develop there if every mistake he makes is on the front page the next day?

The management needs to tell everyone to shut the fuck up. We're going to suck, and this isn't Toronto sucking. We're not going to make trades just to make trades. We're not going to celebrate 8th place anymore. We're going to give our future to the kids because the kids are the future. And you're going to ignore the final score of the game and see focus on how that game got us closer to a goal much further away than backing into a playoff spot this year.

Montreal needs to assign someone to follow Detroit around all season long and study their methods. Scouting, managing, coaching, follow the Detroit blueprint. This used to be Montreal's blueprint but somewhere they lost their way and tried to live off their past. They thought putting on the sainted flannel was enough to transform any player into the next Rocket, Gros Bil or Flower.

  14. Man I love this kid.

"I have a great relationship with Randy and I'd hate for you guys (the media) to ruin that," Subban said. "I'm a young guy and I need to be coached and that's what he's doing.

"Let him do his job and I'll play the game. He's probably going to tear a strip off me again this year. Maybe a couple of times."

This will make bergie choke on his Habs hate. Hopefully no one knows the HeimliCH.

    2. Because Chocula has no fucking clue. You're talking about the guy who would reel in Ovechkin if he were his coach... PK is always the first to openly admit his mistakes with a "I know I have to be better" or "the team needs me to do so-and-so properly" and etc. Just because he's exuberant and pushes buttons in practice doesn't mean he's a bad teammate. These fuckheads in the press have nothing else to write about, and because the season is in a tailspin, they're circling like the vultures they are.

Yea 'cause lets trade our leading goal scorer. That big guy you've been looking for for years. That guy you needed to show the younger big guys how it's done. Fanfuckingtastic.
