I know we haven't nicknamed (Y)emelin yet but my suggestion is (Y), cuz its got a Y its how he spells it and it looks like 'hips', something (Y) uses to perfection.

  3. ...actually, shouldn't that be wrecking ball? Y actually has a metal plate in his face and after getting a puck in the face at practice, he just sucks it up and goes right back to playing. Tough stuff.

  4. Gremelin!

Loved how last night Malone tried to hit him and just bounced off him. Landed the moron on his ass!

  5. The cool thing about (Y) is his hits are hard and clean. Hopefully the refs continue to see this.

    Another possible nick name Fuck(Y)eah!

  8. Thx for those links N31. Ya gotta wonder if #11 will be available when Kid Gallagher makes the Habs line up.

  9. Excellent review of marchand the rat's intent to injure.

  10. I do believe Gomez is just keeping #11 warm for Gally. Until then, he's got Ryder's old number 73. Definitely will have less booze in him and more hockey sense though, so no worries.

  17. Just pondering here, if the NHL can rescind a call by a ref during the game, couldn't they also say that the wrong call was made against marchand once he faces shitahan? that in fact the call should not have been clipping? This guy seems to beleive that it is not clipping.

  23. I've watched that Marchand hit in Salo over and over again - no other way to describe it but as a cheap shot. It's not a hip check in any sense. He ducks down intentionally to upend Salo who he was pissed at, as witnessed by all about 30 seconds earlier when he hit him in the back of the head.

So what we have here is "deliberate attempt to injure" by a repeat offender. That should warrant some sort of suspension...but as I stated over the weekend, as long as Marchand says exactly what he is told to, I suspect he will walk away with nothing.

Yay! I get to watch my NY Giants play one more time at least. Bring on the Cheeseheads!

Good article on Huberdeau that Juce found. Glad he is back with the Sea Dogs again. He would be a game changer for the Habs if they could ever get him out of Sunrise.

  31. Do I detect a little sarcasm from TFS?

Bruce Arthur, National Post: My thumb is up to Carey Price, and down to about 200 ardent francophones who showed up to the Montreal Canadiens game Saturday night to protest the fact that their interim head coach doesn't yet speak French. Randy Cunneyworth has already been undercut in every possible way - from a lousy team, to an owner who sent out a statement affirming the next guy would be bilingual, to the extraordinary sight of his general manager, Pierre Gauthier, apologizing for hiring a unilingual interim coach. Cunneyworth has been the picture of grace throughout, and the protest was just the sad remnants of everything he has endured. Price finally spoke up, answering some questions about the protest with, "I'm sorry that I'm not a francophone. I'm just here to do my job." In English, you'd call that the right thing to say. In French you'd just call it, "les mots justes."

  44. Comment from a reader about what story stood out in the NHL so far this season:

"What stands out for me is the great start to Shanahan's suspensions in the preseason, followed by a sharp dive towards Cambell's standards in the regular season. If he had stood by his principles instead of caving to pressure the league would be that much better"

  49. Good. He had it coming. Not that I think anything will change with those morons...

Yesterday I saw a game between the Red Wings and the Blackhawks and it was 60 minutes of non-stop skating and...and...and...HOCKEY. It was beautiful. Not a single piece of asshattery around (well until the refs blew a too-many-men call on the Wings who then turned around and scored in OT). And there were still injuries but really, it was the players injuring themselves and NOT any dirty hits. Of course Carcillo was still banned so maybe that's why.

  58. Chiarelli Statement re: Brad Marchand Suspension
    Monday, 01.09.2012 / 7:01 PM / News
    Boston Bruins
    Share
Statement from Bruins General Manager Peter Chiarelli Regarding Suspension to Brad Marchand

"While we respect the process that the Department of Player Safety took to reach their decision regarding Brad’s hit on Sami Salo, we are very disappointed by their ruling.

"While we understand that the Department of Safety is an evolving entity, it is frustrating that there are clear comparable situations that have not been penalized or sanctioned in the past.

"It is equally disappointing that Brad sought the counsel of the Department this past Fall for an explanation and clarification regarding this type of scenario so as to adjust his game if necessary. He was advised that such an incident was not sanctionable if he was protecting his own safety. Given our feeling that Brad was indeed protecting himself and certainly did not clip the player as he contacted the player nowhere near the knee or quadricep, today’s ruling is not consistent with what the Department of Player Safety communicated to Brad."

  59. heh, chiapet, shut the fuck up or dig up your statement about fuckface chara's hit on PatCHes. What!? There wasn't one?! Fuck off. The broons always, always find a way top top their classessness with even more fucking classessness. die broons die.

Also, cam neely is in the HHoF? That ruling is not consistent.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Pretty much every Booins fan believes he was protecting himself, cause you know the evil Sami Salo is such a vicious goon. Clearly there is too much tea in the harbor.

If someone wants a video of a proper hip-check, go watch the Gremelin work his magic.

  68. "Marchand skates towards Salo along the boards. Rather than delivering a shoulder-to-shoulder check, Marchand drops down dangerously low into Salo's knee area, lifting Salo up and over to cause an injury."
… "While we understand that in certain circumstances, a player may duck or bail instinctively in order to protect himself from an imminent, dangerous check, we do not view this play as defensive or instinctive. Rather, we feel this is a predatory, low hit delivered intentionally by Marchand in order to flip his opponent over him.
"Further, Salo is not coming at Marchand with great speed or with a threatening posture. He does nothing to indicate that Marchand is about to be hit illegally or with excessive force. To be clear, we do not consider this to be a defensive act where there are no other options available to Marchand.
"As a matter of fact, the exact scenario played out 16 seconds earlier, as Marchand was able to deliver and absorb a clean shoulder to shoulder check to Salo. While this hit was a clean play, Marchand shows clear frustration. That may have led Marchand to believe that Salo might seek retribution, that is not a defense for clipping a player."
