  1. Burke gives a press conference saying that he's happy with the team he has and never had any intentions of making a trade. Uh-huh. Or, no one wants your busted goalies and has been players.

Then he starts complaining that the media in Toronto go overboard and it's too distracting for his team. This from the guy who just a couple of days ago held a press conference saying he hated his goalies, it's their fault they're losing and he wants to ship them out. What a blowhard.

    1. A loud noise signifying nothing. Maybe if he didn't trade half his team in the media a few weeks before actual trades might have happened. Instead he just has no idea how to keep his big mouth shut.

      A bit like Jay Feaster...

    2. Having lived in CotU for 10 years I do feel qualified to make this comment - People like Burke and Wilson are precisely the reason that the leaf are exactly what they are - an average to shit hockey team. They coourt the media when it suits them and slam them when things don't go their way. The players do a poll slamming the coach or the team and they cry foul. They win a couple of games - plan the parade - re-sign a losing coach to a big contract mid season - why? what has Ron Wilson ever done with the leaf? What has he won? How many playoff games has he coached the leaf in to merit a big contract? Before him - Pat fuckin' Quinn - hailedas one of the grteatest coaches in leaf history - but what did he win exactly? How did his teams do in the playoffs? How many made the playoffs? And before some wise ass reminds us that he "coached" a Canadian team to Olympic Gold (or whatever it was) - I think that you'll find he was more of the front man for the media than the glue that brought that team together.

Burke is a blowhard to likes to read his name in the paper, as long as it is saying nice things about him. How's that 5 year plan to "recapture the glory of the maple leaf" working for ya?

And on top of all the bullshit at management level, you have to also look hard at the leaf fans. We've all said it before - there is a huge difference between hockey fans and leaf fans. But to a man (and woman) they are as deluded as Burkie and his pet dog Wilson. They flock to the ACC like lemmings no matter what. The media feed them the stories Burkie wants them to read and they believe a miracle is coming. Get a new goalie no one has ever heard of - hockey sense says break him in gently - let him prove himself - leaf sense says call him the Monster and start him on a Saturday Night on HNIC in front of millions - then act incredulous a few months later when he's already shot full of holes - it's all classic leaf stuff and I don't see it changing - why should it? leaf fans will still go to the games and brag about what a great team they will have "as soon as we get (insert name here) back...yada yada yada...

Contrast that to what is happening right now in Montreal - if this last place trend continues I'm pretty sure that major shit will happen over the summer and even though there is always a "5 year plan", the expectations will be that a serious cup run must happen forthwith. Habs Fans are hockey fans and we won't put up with a shit team for very long. I always remember something that was said at family meals by either my grandfather or my dad or maybe my uncle - all lifers like myself. They would always say "Montreal Canadiens fans are the best in the world and they will support their team win or tie...just don't tie too often eh!" (obviously this was before the spectrum of "loser points was invented for the US audience, so I guess the family motto needs updating...).

Nice rant KmaXXX. I would point out that although Quinn's leaf never won a championship, they were way, way better than Blowhard Burkie's squads. They always made the playoffs and won the division a few times, I'm sure. But then, there was no salary cap and the leaf bought whoever thay damn well pleased. Sundin, Mogilny, Gary Roberts, Joe Nieuwendyke, etc. were much better than poor Saku and his cast of nobodies the Molsons provided.

Mike Boone's article in today's Gazette has me bummed out this morning. Talking about teams gearing up for deep playoff runs with all kinds of Habs castoffs.
Vancouver with Higgins and Mad Max.
St. Louis with Jaro 1.0 and Dagger.
Nashville with both sets of Tits, HMCS Gill and even Cube.
Even Dallas are in the hunt with Mickey Ribs, Ryder, Robidas and Moey's fave, big Sheldon Souray.

Now I know some of those guys have been chastised and even despised by some of the 4HF and FHF faithful. But who's got the last laugh? Those guys are on good teams with lots of size and talent and our beloved Habs are in the fucking toilet. I call severe mismanagement and development of players by the Gainey regime. Example #1: Why in the name of God would they send Louis Leblanc down and keep useless fucking Gomez in the lineup? Makes no sense. Play the kids the last 19 games, get them NHL experience.

Oh, and Steve....there isn't any combination of players or draft picks that Montreal could offer Florida for the rights to Jonathan Huberdeau. Yakupov and Grigorenko TOGETHER wouldn't do it. Montreal picked the wrong year to suck with two Russians as the top prospects. Should have been last year or next when Nathan McKinnon is available.

    1. Well said. You know who the current Habs are reminding me of? The Montreal Expos of old. We develop the talent, only to either trade it away or go elsewhere for more money, and be successful. But I will say this, and it pains me, but who is to say we won't be in the exact same spot next year, or worse? This management doesn't exactly inspire confidence in getting out of the basement, you know?

Exactly. I have no faith in the present regime anymore. My expectations for next season are so low, I'd have to look up to see a snake's belly. Especially if fucking Gomez and Kraperle are still around.
