  7. Former Canadiens forward Donald Audette could be in line for assistant coaching job with the Canadiens. A report says that Audette will meet with head coach Michel Therrien.

Audette played for Therrien during the coach's first tenure with the Habs. They're expected to meet this week.

Audette played 14 seasons in the NHL, including three with the Canadiens. He retired in 2004.

if i remember correctly Martin Lapointe was offered a lucrative contract with the habs a few years ago but chose to sign with the bruins. i say if we were not good enough for him then he can stick it now. no to martin lapointe. by the way there were some english people who played for the habs or do we have to continue with this garbage of the best french person available.

  13. Montreal protesters' fascist salute widely condemned
"We don't even need an apology from them," said Beryl Wajsman of the Institute for Public Affairs of Montreal. "This Nazi business is one of two things: if they did it and knew, they're hateful; and if they didn't they're so stupid that any education, free or paid won't change it."

    http://montreal.ctv.ca/servlet/an/local/CTVNews/20120612/mtl_salute_120612/20120612/?hub=MontrealHome

One German visitor to Montreal remarked to a Canadian Press reporter over the weekend that he was shocked to see the salutes on Crescent Street, a trendy Montreal party strip.

In some countries like Germany and Austria, the gesture itself and Nazi-era symbols are outlawed. Just last year, a Quebecer was arrested for performing the salute on the steps of the Reichstag in Berlin for a photo.

    1. Its a red herring, a low blow by the Fascist press. The meaning in Quebec is far different from the meaning in Germany and Austria. You dont see people prostesting the use of Volkswagen and the Autobahn, both Nazi symbols.

    2. The students are trying to say the police are like Nazi's. Unfortunately they haven't been educated about how the Nazi's came to power and have no understanding of centuries of pogroms. So someone needs to educate them and cross the language divide. Just because someone is Jewish does not per se mean that they are limited to being anglophone, and just because someone is pur laine doesn't necessarily mean they don't have Jewish ancestors, particularly if you have ancestors named Gelinas. cf. http://safi-rencontres.blogspot.com/ and http://amitiesquebec-israel.org/GelinasR/centre-gelinas/

  23. Holy Fuck Batman, I break news two days in a row.
    NcognitoJUNE 14, 2012 AT 1:28 PM
I grew up one street over from Gerard Gallant and we played lots of ball hockey at the Boys and Girls Club together. Of course I was the goaltender and he made me look really bad some days . Anyway the news is official here on PEI. I was taking to his sister inlaw this morning at work and she said her father called last night stating “Turk” signed a 3 yr deal to be an assistant coach with the Habs. He also mentioned that Dallas was also interested.
Can’t wait to hit Montreal this fall for a few games! Have not being there since 2003!

Yes indeed, the Maritimer is very pleased. The only thing is Gallant should be the Head Coach and Therrien the assistant. Work on your french Turk and you will be the HC in about a year. Take care of N8 and throw Kakaberle out the door.

Lots of fans are predicting a quick turnaround next season and that MB should trade for this guy and that guy. BS, he said from the start he would build with youth and surround himself with good hockey people. Well, he has done the latter part, although there is some question about the addition of the Breezer and you all know how I feel about Therrien. MB is keeping the 3rd pick and is going to load up more in the 2nd round. The Canadiens are going to follow the path laid down by LA, gather lots of assets over the next few years and when you think you are close to being a true contender, make your move and get the pieces you need.

So, big connection between Montreal and Saint John, NB now. So when can I expect to see some 4HFers down here for a Sea Dogs game? I've been to Montreal many times it's only fair.

"For the Leafs, right now the team they have to compare and contrast with would be the L.A. Kings, champions of the NHL. The Kings made it all way out of an eighth place finish, and all some focus on is that, and the fact they believe the Leafs, had they scratched their way into the post-season, might have experienced the same fate."

  35. TORONTO - Unless the Hockey Hall of Fame committee succumbs to Maple Leaf myopia, there won’t be a second consecutive slate of Toronto-tinged inductees to announce in a few days.

While it would be nice for Mats Sundin, Gary Roberts and Curtis Joseph to get in on their first try, they’ll likely be in a pool with other new eligibles behind the two strongest entrants — the much-decorated Joe Sakic and Brendan Shanahan. The aforementioned Leafs trio join four-time Cup winner Claude Lemieux and American scoring ace Jeremy Roenick.
