  1. I think I already posted but, since today is Canada Day, bears repeating so here we go.

    Geoff Molson must be proud.

moe, nice photo of Kim Cattrall, Happy Canada all, enjoy the long weekend.

Here's my take on Sheldon Souray: would probably help the PP, still has the big shot from the point, harder than Steve's. He is still tough and would do a better job than Kraperle or the Swiss sisters in protecting TFS. You can avoid the pylon scenario by using him on the 3rd pairing. However, he is still injury prone, but, so is Markov. If MaB is looking at him, one year only please 'til N8 and TinTin are ready.

Other than that he is eye candy for the ladies.

    2. Shelly...I've missed him. Would be great if they signed him for a year or two. PP would be lethal again.

  4. As it turns out, the Oilers secret weapon might have been new head coach Ralph Krueger, who sat down face-to-face with Schultz and quickly won him over.

Will MT2.0 be able to woo Parise with his French, his innovative system, his collection of Chocula notepads?

    2) Andrei Kostitsyn: No, Kostitsyn never lived up to the hype of being the 10th overall selection in the incredible 2003 Entry Draft, but I think at age 27, we can start to appreciate him for just what he is. A thick, 20+ goal scoring winger, blessed with a blistering wrist shot, and able to turn on finesse moves and/or a physical game when he feels inclined to do so. A versatile player who can line up on either wing, Kostitsyn has shown chemistry with both Tomas Plekanec and Lars Eller in the past, so while I think the price tag will end up a little high for Bergevin’s liking, there is no reason the Canadiens shouldn’t be considering bringing him back to Montreal.

    1) Jaromir Jagr: Yes, he’s 40, but he just capped a return to the NHL with a 19-goal, 54-point season for the Philadelphia Flyers, and has committed himself to training hard this summer to be in even better shape next season to have the endurance to keep his game at a high level all year. No doubt, Tomas Plekanec would love to have a chance to play with his friend, countryman, and international linemate, and Jagr wouldn’t be looking for more than a 1-year contract, providing the Canadiens with plenty of flexibility. He is a right-winger, with none of he, Brian Gionta, or Erik Cole likely to shift sides, but any of the three could make a great scoring veteran for the young Lars Eller to play with. Or what happens should Alex Galchenyuk appear utterly dominant and force his way on to the team? He’ll need an experienced winger on his line as well, assuming that would push Eller out of a center spot. Even if it’s just a chance to see a future Hall-of-Famer up close all season, I would say, “Yes,” to bringing Jagr to Montreal.

    9) Jaromir Jagr, Philadelphia Flyers, Right Wing
    2011-12 Salary: $3,300,000
    2011-12 Stats: 73 GP, 19 G, 35 A, 54 Pts, 30 PIMs

Last summer, Jagr returned to the NHL signing with the Flyers after three seasons in the KHL. The sure-fire first ballot hockey hall of famer may have lost a step or two, but he still has the amazing puck skills that have made him one of the best in NHL history. Jagr showed that he can still be an effective offensive player, teaming with Claude Giroux and Scott Hartnell on the Flyers top line and putting up 54 points last year. At his age, and with all the hockey he’s played, his endurance and defensive play are question marks. However Jagr has natural talent that few in the NHL can match and can still produce points when put in situations with high offensive zone starts and plenty of power play time.

    10) Andrei Kostitsyn, Nashville Predators, Right Wing/Left Wing
    2011-12 Salary: $3,250,000
    2011-12 Stats: 72 GP, 16 G, 20 A, 36 Pts, 26 PIMs

It was a tumultous season for the Belorussian winger. A three time 20 goal scorer, Kostitsyn’s production dipped to just 16 this season split between Montreal and Nashville. On top of that his reputation suffered a major hit after he was suspended for an incident which occured before game 2 of the second round of the playoff series between Nashville and Phoenix. Kostitsyn is a big bodied winger with impressive skills. He has a fantastic wrist shot and release that can sizzle off his stick and find the back of the net. He is also a willing forechecker who throws his body around in an attempt to get loose pucks for his team. Kostitsyn is also a talented stickhandler who can beat defenders with his quick fakes. However Kostitsyn’s production never does seem to live up to his skills. He has poor hockey sense, and his effort level (especially defensively) can be questionable at times. He can also be guilty of taking too many undisciplined penalties. Kostitsyn can be a valuable secondary scoring option for a team, however GMs should be careful not to overrate him.

    1. BTW full disclosure I have 5 upper deck Jagr rookie cards, one is in French and if he signs I can probably cash out with a 50% loss over purchase.

      Delete
    2. Not in that blurb about Kostitsyn: For some stupid reason--probably the same that had Darche in over Cole--he was taken off the powerplay, even though the rare 3 times he was on it he scored. Also, after his supposed late night with Radulov, he scored more goals than Radulov.

  22. the Maritimer3:46 PM

OK, if he holds up health-wise, Armstrong gives them a little sandpaper up front, he'll be like a guided missle when he plays the leaf, keep your head up Celine. Guys like Boom Boom Jr. will be getting lots of call ups from Hamilton when the inevitable injuries occur.

I'm meh about the Cube, I'd have rather have had Souray, but good for him to hook on in Anaheim, his kids live in LA I believe with his kooky ex.

Apparently the Habs have offered a deal to George Parros, now there is a serious heavyweight with a great 80's porn style moustache.

Sorry about Rusty, juce. Maybe we can have the Ducks as a backup team to cheer for, with Saku, Shelly and Rusty all playing there.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Prust is a done deal. A bit pricey but a rugged winger with some moxy. (Feedback from the 4HFemmes on his 'cute' factor in 3,2, 1.)

I suggest we nickname him Marcel.

Marc Bergevin is going to let the Canadiens get pushed around anymore. MoeNman isn't going into the TD Garden without backup anymore. He'll have Armstrong and Prust to back him up. If they get Parros, Lucy will be a non factor.

The Swiss sister misters might as well pack their bags. They don't fit the new Habs profile - prairie farm boy tough.

So MaB has addressed the toughness issue more or less. Montreal still needs some scoring in the top 6. Just like Brian Bark dealt with Anaheim after he became the laffs GM I think he will swing a deal of some kind with the Blackhawks. I think one of the Patricks, Kane or Sharp will be a Hab before September. One of their D-men as well.

Well, they got a little tougher that's for sure but I don't know where the secondary scoring is going to come from. Once you get past the DD line there ain't much there. The next highest scorer was Lego with 16 and one quarter of that happened in one game. GChuk? Who knows but I wouldn't count on it. Sorry to be a downer but them's the facts folks.

  40. I missed the latter 4HF FAF, day two of helping my brother move, I'm kinda feeling the physical labor part now. We finished up with a quasi Canada Day BBQ. Yum.

  41. Both Armstrong and Bouillon have a history with new Canadiens coach Michel Therrien, who coached Bouillon in junior hockey in Laval and Granby as well as during his first stint as Canadiens coach a decade ago. Therrien had Armstrong with the Pittsburgh Penguins.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Torres gets a 21 game suspension instead of 25 games after appeal.

"This type of on-ice conduct cannot and will not be tolerated in the National Hockey League," Bettman said in a statement. "We have seen similar behavior before from Mr. Torres and, particularly given the League's heightened scrutiny on hits to the head, I believe that a very significant penalty is warranted in this case. We hope and expect that the severity of this incident, and the League's response to it, will help prevent any similar incident from occurring in the future."

Torres, who will forfeit over $170,000 in salary, is also ineligible to participate in any preseason games this fall.

  43. CANADIENS SIGN GOALTENDER PRICE TO SIX-YEAR CONTRACT

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The Habs did not officially release financial details for the new pact with the restricted free agent. Multiple reports indicate the deal is for a total of $39 million US.

      Delete
    2. Update: Price's annual cap hit will be $6.5M per season, making the deal worth $39M. Price is now the second highest player on the team, and likely to be the highest paid player when Gomez is moved, sent to the AHL or bought out.

      Delete
    3. Hell, yeah!!

      Delete
    4. Price is the only goaltender in NHL history to have two seasons as a starting goaltender with a .920 save percentage or better before the age of 24, this is while playing in the most hostile environment for a goaltender in the sport.

Price has a higher cap hit than recent cup winner Jonathan Quick, but Price is two years younger, and signed for a much more reasonable term.

This is a good deal for both the Canadiens and Carey Price. It settles all the speculation from certain fans who believe Price doesn't want to be a Canadien, and it pays Price for what he is, an elite goaltender in the NHL.

Price is now the 3rd highest paid goaltender in the NHL going by cap hit, although comparing his deal to other recently signed deals like Pekka Rinne's or Cam Ward's it's pretty clear that the Canadiens did not pay over market value.
