On Larry Robinson developing from an outstanding player to a “presence,” Dryden wrote:

“It had to do with being so big, so strong, so tough, so agile, that no one knew how good he was and no one wanted to find out.

“A burst of speed, a quick pass, triumphantly in the clear, then looking up and seeing him, and feeling everything inside you slowly sucked out. It had to do with knowing that anything you can do, he can do better, so throw up your hands, shrug your shoulders, put on the brakes – what’s the use? He had a numbing reputation, an imperial manner, and the goods to back them up, a game rooted in defence, opportunistic on offence, limited, economic and dominant. It had to do with what he did and what he didn’t have to do because of how he did it.

“Nowhere was this more clear, or more important, than against the Flyers or the Bruins. They held him in such awe, treating him with an embarrassing, almost fawning respect, that they seemed even to abandon their style of play when he was around, and with it any hope of winning.”

I can't believe we didn't snag him and keep him.

    1. And its Ken Drydens 65th. If only the libs had picked him as leader.

    2. Maybe the Quebec Libs should pick him as a leader...

    3. Do it Quebec Libs, do it, you need a "star" to stamp out the QAC who have a huge star candidate.

  4. Hold on to your hats, PFK may be leaving town. Jeff Skinner just signed a 6 mill contract. If PFK digs in his heels, I see him Edmonton bound, and we get the Nail back.

PFK ain't leaving town, but if the offer was Nail, Eberle and a 1st in 2013, I'd say see ya later PK. But it won't so PK stays and I'm happy. Sure would love to somehow get a shot at Nate McKinnon though. Worth throwing the season........almost.

    3. No tanking, thank you.

    4. And I wouldn't mind it at all if PK got locked up to a Skinner contract. Special players deserve special money.

  7. Honorary FHF member Joel Ward

Shortly after the Capitals' postseason ended, the playoff hero underwent surgery to correct a sports hernia. And then he made the mistake of attempting to "relieve some stress" while recuperating on bed rest, a story he relays in detail during the same interview:
"I was being a single male laying in bed like that, I figured I'd try to relieve myself a little bit. Well, sure enough I got a nerve that kinda connect from my seeds us to my scarring that slowly prevents me from relieving myself."
    "... It was like a dog-choker, just like a zap -- zoop."
"... So of course I panicked and called the doc. He's like, 'You just had surgery, come on.'"

If I was running the NHLPA and and that little twerp locked us out, I'd say fuck you and start my own league.

Personally, I don't care anymore what the NHL does. I am a Canadiens fan and will support them 'til the end. The rest of the league....I don't even watch the playoffs anymore. I guess I'm getting cynical in my old age. I'll watch junior hockey or go watch minor hockey at the local rinks.

      Fuck all these greedy bastards.

      Delete
    2. PR fail. The NHLPA said if they didn't have a deal by Sept 15th, they'd just happily continue playing under the old deal.

      Bettman, YOU LOSE!

Also fire that twerp already. Fucking Bruins and Flyers owners..Why do they even like this troll?

    3. the Maritimer5:55 AM

You identified the source of the problem 31, Buttman is Jacobs and Snider's little puppet. They essentially run the league.

      Delete
    4. Fuck Buttman, the little man is the man personified.

      Delete
    5. @ Maritimer I like the cut of your jib. Fuck the man, play in small market arenas until you can raise the funds for proper arena's. After a few years all the trademarks would be back on the Market. Montreal Habytats, Toronto Maple Sugar, and so on in the meantime.

  11. Buttman needs to be booted out, we get nothing but lockouts since he came to NHL town.

  14. Woohoo Canada!!

I wonder if the owners go along with it simply for that reason, some of them are tired of losing money and just want out.

But I miss my Habs ):
Was really looking forward to the new season with all the changes.

  15. From hockeybuzz:

    Flyers eyeing PK Subban?

Let me start by saying, as was the case with Weber, it is hard to imagine any offer sheet that would not be matched by Montreal which would land PK in Philly... That being said, the star D-man remains un-signed and I am starting to hear rumblings the two sides have had preliminary discussions regarding a trade. Subban is adored by the Flyers organization, and has had a turbulent path of sorts in Montreal. However, the Canadiens have way too much invested in Subban and his potential is way too great to not be looking for a VERY big return from Philly. The Habs, would likely want a D-man in return along with one of the Flyers top young forwards. Not saying it will happen, just saying the rumors are definitely out there.

    1. It would break my heart if they traded PFK.

      Delete
    2. The Habs may be getting the impression PFK thinks very highly of himself, and will UFA to the highest bidder. I am guessing that Montreal is trying to lock him up with a 5 or 6 year contract and he wants big money for two years so he can UFA.

      Delete
    3. Juce - this ain't gonna happen. DGMB has made all the right calls so far (well - mostly) but certainly I don't see getting rid of PFK being in his plans. It would go gainst everything he has said to date baout building on the strenghts we have etc. And it's not like they don't have the cash - come on mate - sort it!

      Delete
    4. Especially if the trade was to the Phucktards or Broons. I dont want anyone from either team. Okay maybe Dougie Hamilton from Boston cause he has not actually worn a game sweater. Please for the love of God do not take Danny Biere.

      Delete
    5. Last year they should have renegotiated his contract when he became the defacto number one D man. At $875,000 it was out of whack, it was whacky.

      Delete
    6. Especially since DGMB stated at the onset that signing Price and Subban were a priority and MT2.0 called him a 'thouroughbred'

      Delete
    7. Steve, good chance they would pick Briere, given recent moves and you know, home boy and all.

      Delete
    8. A whole load of bull. I remember the same garbage speculations occurred when Price was up for his second contract. Y'know who else is a hot young RFA Defenseman waiting for contracts? Michael Del Zotto. John Carlson "American Hero". But hey let's pick on the Habs.

    9. That's 'cause they're the best, no one else worth spreading rumours about, especially with our fanbase.

    4. Team Russia made sure not give up their home-ice advantage without nabbing a win for their fans, as they downed the Canadians 6-3 in the second game of the Canada-Russia Challenge. Forward Kirill Kapustin stepped up as the star of the day, exploding for a hat trick to lead the Russians to victory. Habs prospect Charles Hudon was again kept off the scoresheet. The Canadiens’ fifth-round pick in the 2012 draft saw a lot of ice time on the penalty-kill, helping shut down scoring opportunities for the duration of the match, most notably during a three-minute Team Russia power play in the game’s opening frame.

Both teams will now get the chance to enjoy two days of rest before taking to the ice again Monday night in Halifax for the third game of their four-game series.
