Exactly one year ago cancer took my nephew, Jules. He was 11. He had neuroblastoma, four fucking times in his short life. I Skyped my sister and her family in Lausanne, Switzerland today, where Jules lived and died. She's a nurse and helped/helps treat children with the dreaded disease. They are doing well and held and outdoor party (with a nice fire, which he loved) in his honour. Jules was a passionate boy. Always but always full of life. You can see it in his eyes. He made you happy to be part of his joy and he always smiled. I was his crazy mon oncle moe. I thought about maybe posting about him but wasn't sure if I should or even could. Then I read this story about Gary Carter and his fight for life with glioblastoma. It triggered this post. We all know someone who has been or is being ravaged by this sick disease. My Jules loved sports, school, family, friends and Tintin. Gary represented much of the same qualities and growing up an Expos fan, I really liked him. Montreal did too. We can't imagine the pain cancer victims feel. We can only wish them peace and to be as well as they can be. Rest well Gary. Rest in peace Jules. Give before it hurts.
