As I said last night the whole pre-game segment on HNIC was basically dedicated to Boston and how they were the superior team. Mclame did a nice piece on the great Bobby Orr and they showed a nice clip on the Bruins winning the Cup in 1970 with Bobby's famous flight after scoring the winning goal. Then they spent quite a bit of time on their leaf of course and how great Kadri and Lupul and Phaneuf are playing. The Habs? Mostly about PK Subban diving and how it pissed the Flyers off so they beat up a couple of Habs and won the game. They may have praised Gallagher a bit, because he was interviewed by Cassie.

During the game it seemed to feel that Bob Cole and Gary Galley were hyping the Bruins and their strong play, how they were controlling the tempo and Montreal was basically hanging on for dear life. The two goals Montreal scored were the flukey type (which they were), just bad bounces that Rask had no chance on. Galley did acknowledge that the Boston goal was flukey as well so call it even.

So, post game there wasn't a lot said about the Montreal win and that they had won 3 out of 4 games against a superior opponent and gained some separation in the standings for first in the division and in fact were only 3 points out first in the conference with a game in hand on Pittsburgh. Nope, lets talk about the leaf instead and the great James Reimer, who they were hoping would be supplanted by Luongo or Kiprusoff earlier in the week. Nice.

All in all great job CBC on your completely unbiased coverage of the game between two great rivals. I'm sure next time your team will win.

    2. moe, that's for real? What a sick piece of shit organization HNIC has become. Not just anti-Hab but taking delight in an injury. Btw, CBC, it wasn't so much Lucic being the alpha man of your fantasies as it was an unlucky twist.

I posted in the last thread about TSN, too. Re: Habs "...as they try to chase the division lead". Uh, they lead the division. They just beat their main rivals, and extended their lead. Re broons: "...how unlucky the were tonight". Right, because it's 'bad luck' that they lost 3/4 games to the Habs this year and still trail them. The hate just never ends. This is what happens when the media only hires losers who most often fell at the hands of one team. They use their positions to live out the vengeance. I mean, would Cherry who owes his whole shameful dismissal from the NHL on the Habs ever cover them fairly? Or anyone else in that room? Even Hrudey who isn't that bad owes his biggest NHL letdown to the Habs. Thank god they have Cassie. She's probably the one who suggested interviewing Gallagher and everyone else likely thought he was a 4th line broon so they green lit it.

But who cares. Rather be an underdog than the guy who's getting sucked off but can't finish the job (leaf). GO HABS GO!

    5. Over a period of 8-10 years (which ended about 4 years ago), I sent many letters, emails and left feedback comments to various cbc types. I did so in a reasoned (non attacking) tone, with details to back up my concerns. Not once did I get a reply. Since the last one they received from me I have gone on the attack. I doubt, even with my bias, that I have been wrong. The proof is out there. They don't give a fuck. They're sick.

Don't expect to get a response, just wanted to unload on them a bit. The anti-Montreal stance has basically become laughable in it's obviousness. So I've adopted an us against them mentality...and I don't even live in Montreal. It's Habs fans against the CBC, TSN and Sportsnet.

You want proof of CBC/HNIC leaf bias? Go watch Coaches Corner from last night, a re-run of after the leaf/Senators game the previous week when Cherry drug Kadri, Orr and McLaren into the set for a smooching session. Seriously? No talk about two division rivals going at it for the division lead and first overall? All he could manage was a surprising comment on Carey Price's courage, humility and smarts. Thanks for that anyway, Grapes.

      Delete
    8. Cherry loves Price. Except when he was an idiot and mentioned how he should be traded out of Montreal over Jaro. BUT HE'S ALWAYS RIGHT GUYYYYYS. But yea, he'll take the time to say nice things about him, while choking on Leaf/Bruin.

And since he finally met PK, he started saying nice things about him too. Shocking when you don't base your opinions on gross assumptions eh?

That segment should be renamed "Old Man Who Yells Inanely At Things That MIGHT Include Hockey!"

    10. Paul Hollingsworth was working the Phucktard game on Wednesday and appeared on Sports Centre on Sunday morning. Local media guy, I sat next to him and his wife a couple of months ago at my grandson's hockey tournament. Good broadcaster and pretty unbiased. It will be interesting to see if he turns to the dark side if he continues to work for TSN.

The more hate delivered towards the Habs by the mediots, the better I like it. Will make it all that more sweet when they are forced to showcase them come playoff time. I wonder how that works. I think CBC gets dibs on 2 eastern Canadian teams before TSN gets to pick one. If the Peg somehow gets out of their funk and takes the 3rd seed over Washington (though doubtful), I'm sure they'd go with them and Tronna. Whatever.
If I go back to my baseball watching days (i.e. Expos), I believe the Habs' "magic number" is 2. If the Devils lose tonight, it's 1.

    1. If I understand it correctly, the CBC gets the first 2 picks of any playoff series, then TSN gets one, then CBC again, then 2 to TSN and so on. If the leaf makes it I could see CBC picking

      1) the leaf
      2) rebroadcast of the leaf

I kid. It'd probably be the leaf, and then Vancouver for the later broadcast. TSN would go with the Jets if they make it, the Sens if not. CBC would then choose the Sens if TSN hadn't already, or the broons. TSN would then go for the Blackhawks and curling. CBC would then opt for Formula One and golf, and finally TSN would elect to go off the air for 3 hours each prime time session. Then, the two of them would enter their youngest intern into a ring, the one who doesn't emerge alive is forced to air the Habs playoff games.

But really, it will be a fact that the best Canadian team, and the one voted by Canadians as the national team, will be chosen last and probably won't be available on the national broadcast. YOUR TAX DOLLARS AT WORK!

Speaking of the Expos, good to see fellow Haligonian Paul Hollingsworth get some prime network time. Paul was always a huge Expos fan and has said for years he believes they'll be back in Montreal before long. Not sure I would come back to baseball, but any reason to drink a few beer EVERY FREAKING NIGHT in the summer! To my knowledge, he's never really affiliated himself as a fan of a particular hockey team, but I think he's also a Habs fan at heart. However, he's also a professional so doesn't show it to my knowledge. It'll be interesting to see if hanging in hogtown gives him blue and white disease.

Boy, that RA Dickhead signing is looking good so far.

I was thinking about it 29, but my TV viewing schedule is chock full. Probably wait for it and watch legally obtained episodes later. Looks interesting.

I'm a week late here as I haven't had much FHF time. Did the other Walking Dead fans think that season finale sucked ass? or is that just me?

I'm giving The Following a go. Not yet hooked, but staying with it.

I have the three seasons of Arrested Development queued up, getting ready for the new season. Be interested to see how/where they pick up the story.

    2. Saint OB is very interesting, highly recommend.

GIVE UP ON THE FOLLOWING NOW. Holy fuck I am sick of that show, I have watched every ep from the beginning, and it's just getting stupider and stupider. I decided to give up on it (finally) and am replacing it with Hannibal, the premiere of which was excellent, for my serial killer needs.

i'm giving TF one more episode. Agree though it's getting stupid(er).

Maybe I'll start up Orphan Black. Proud to say I never watched LOST...but I watched Prison Break to the end, which was pretty terrible after season 1...

Can't wait for BB to come back. Might need a recap of the first half of the season.

I don't know Steve, but my wife says I can get one of those Russian girls my bit torrent site keeps offering as long as she cleans the house and does the laundry. But I'm skeptical. They don't look like the house cleaning type.

    1. I have read about it and understand the historical significance. Now we have to wait till September, Serbia will be much tougher to get through.

On another note, Canada gets silver at the Curling Championships. So sad, we could send 8 teams and win everything but that's the way it is. It seems like the stuff we're good at only allows one competitor. Not like the US who can send 10 swimmers for one race (and have 87 different types of swimming). But I digress.

For those who say that we have RDS, well the leaf has LeafTV and the Sens (and Nucks) have Sportsnet. Everyone can pay ridiculous amounts to get the games they want as long as they happen to live in the right city, we're talking about 'national' carriers here.

    1. A little off topic, my girlfriend is a hockey fan. She catches all the Habs games with me but can't get a non-blacked-out feed of her Nucks games. Is there a way that she would be able get every one of her games? We have Bell Express Vu with a complete sports package but like I said, west coast feeds are blacked out. Are Free-to-Air satellites still working? That seems to be the only option. We do streams, but our net connection is maxed out at 1mb, so it's not the greatest. :/

      Delete
    2. You could pay for the NHL option on internet, which I've never done but I hear is ok.* Not sure if the stream would be great with your internet hookup, though.

CBC usually carries the Nucks, and they stream for free through their site.

Blackouts and regional players are ridiculous. It's like the record companies trying to regulate downloads. iTunes finally taped it a decade later, but at this point so many people are used to getting it the way they used to, it's not so much about paying, it's about what we're used to and convenience. If they would have just embraced the new technology when it came to be then they would be the leader.
      /rant

*I don't do the NHL option because, usually, the only games I can catch in full are the Saturday night ones and it's not worth the money for that. Might do it for these playoffs, though, but I've heard there are problems for overseas clients like me. This is what I'm talking about maximizing profit for these guys. Go PPV, I'll pay $5/game for a nice stream easy. But make it consistent and easy.

      Good luck, Trevor!

    4. @Orangeman: It's nice when CBC cover's her Nucks game but man I can't stand listening to them. When I was a kid my dad would have two TVs set up in the living room on Saturday night. The Habs feed would be on the bigger TV (I think the station was called CRS) the Leafs feed was on the smaller TV so we could root against them. We stuck around to watch Coaches Corner and not once do I remember hearing him talk about the Habs the way he did about his Leafs. As the years rolled on and I became less naive, I started tuning him out. I completely stopped watching after his one segment rant about Canada not supporting the US in their little oil war. Now he has the audacity to tell Canada what to do? How was this guy not fired?

Anyway, I found that I can cut the commentary by disabling the center speaker. It muffles their voices quite nicely and I get a nice crisp on ice/crowd sound to drown out what's remaining (though the sound isn't as great as RDS's). /rant

Hopefully we can a better net connection out here one of these days. For now we're stuck with radio internet, Rogers and Shaw don't stretch this far north west I guess. :/

@Steve: She was born in Abbotsford and moved to Oshawa when she was young enough to be brainwashed by the slop in GTA. I'm just happy she was able to come away unscathed. Her younger sister on the other hand, she's dead...to me. :p Her dad's a very humble Hawks fan and her youngest sister is a Habs fan. :)

    1. All politicians are slimey, but some genuinely want to help the world, while others just want to hurt, control or exercise vengeance. Thatcher definitely fell into the latter. Why be 14x richer than everyone else when you can be 50x richer?! She did more for feminism than she'll ever be given credit for, proving a women could be as cold hearted and callous as any man. Obviously, sorry for her family, but good riddance to bad policy that seriously hurt millions of people up until this very day.

  16. We oftentimes focus on the media's hatred of the Habs, but they are often show the same level of indifference to the other Canadian teams. Case in point, TSN is now sure that the Sens are in danger of losing their playoff seat. Let's get the facts (as dirty as they are to the Toronto media) out of the way. The Sens are 2 pts behind the leaf. Yes, they've lost 4 in a row. So did the leaf a couple of weeks ago which was attributed to 'a rough patch any team goes through'. Also, this is the first time the leaf have been ahead of the Sens. Suddenly one is on the bubble while the other is a Cup contender.

The leaf have home-and-home with the Rangers this week. By the end, they could be in 9th. Not that I wish harm on any one team....
