  1. Great SF, but the Harper pic is disturbing. Fortunately the remainder of the pictures made up for it.

The Star Trek underwear girl? How did they work that into a Sci-Fi script. Was it a race of bikini-clad supermodels who communicate through sexual acts?

The Moose will play either London or Portland in the Memorial Cup final. I have not slept for two days now.

I am a Dylan head, and although I do not know 29 I guess he is a Dylan brain. So just to warn you, Dylan is like a foreign language even to those that were part of a contemporary experience. I joined his tribe well after he peaked. Should we mention Beethoven and Bob Dylan in the same breath, well Beethoven was great but he had no lyrics and never sang. Happy Birthday Mr Zimmerman, its one of the privileges of my life that you were part of my Zeigiest.

    2. seen Dylan 15-20 times live over the years. a Dylan brain indeed. let us list some of the odder venues

CEPSUM (Universite de Mohtreal hockey rink)
      National Arts Centre Ottawa
Frank Clair Stadium (now) Ottawa, all day festival
      Some farm in Vermont
      Some field in Maine

they were all unique, and all brilliant

      better than Beethoven

    5. Dylan will never be matched lyrically. In the world of recorded lyrics going back maybe 2000 years no one has come close, and the competition is going backwards.
My favorite because I did work in a lumber camp is from Blood on the tracks, Tangled up and blue. Lots of people can not get into Dylan, but that song is something everyone loves.
"I was working in the great north woods as a cook for a spell, but I never did like it all that much and one day the axe just fell."

There are a half dozen phrases just as fine in this single song. One day, every where, everybody is going to have an axe fall on them. Thats Bob, he tried to tell you but you would not listen.

    6. I muttered something underneath my breath
She studied the lines on my face
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe
      Tangled up in blue

      Steve, we are in agreement

    10. Cause the times they are a changing. Grow panic rooms and places where safety can be found when its lost, because the time they are a changing. When the galciers melt and shorefront insurance is lost and the people both little and small flee the flood, you will see on your screens and even fox will believe that the time they are a changing. Now dear brother bob who was a threat to the mob of controlled outrage like a Tea Party sage, would say in a spell of outspoken lyrical hell, grasp your vitals and food and move to a place where the mood is about moving on and not just about keeping everything you were given at birth and not wondering who else patrols the paths of this earth.

Look out your window do not rely on the news, you can see such strange sunsets and morning-ins you cant use. So do not stand with your jaw on the ground, get up stand up, and tell the government we are the people and we are your boss and we will not be pushed around.

The bug-eyed fat walrus and his headhunting Senaturds got their asses handed to them last night. No need for me to watch any of that mess as it was obvious who had the superior team. As a Habs fan I can only look at Pittsburgh with envy....Crosby, Malkin, Neal, Dupuis and on and on. They are a little weak in goal but former Habs draft pick Tomas Vokoun is good enough with all that firepower. We can only hope that Galchenyuk will be similar to a Malkin that Bergevin can build around him something remotely similar. If he were to miraculously engineer a deal to land MacKinnon, he could have that big one-two punch down the middle.

So, perhaps I will watch a Pittsburgh/Boston semi-final, I think Crosby and company will expose a rookie laden Bruin back end. First though should be a good Memorial Cup final between Seth Jones' Portland team and a Halifax juggernaut featuring MacKinnon and Drouin on Sunday.

    G Y F H G!

  12. Sometimes I know I am headed in the right direction. Doppler radar is scattered but all indications are it is safe to move. So when a movie like Upstream Color runs like a supernatural force through my physio Faraday cage, I become some what passionate for a metaphysical cause. Artists capture something we love but can not not create let alone express. Upstream Color is a masterpiece of expression leading the audience to think. In this era of scattered thought and blockbusting reality shows and comic book movies, the art remains, embrace the art, the art is the deal.

First, congratulations to fellow FHF'er soperman whose Halifax Mooseheads dominated the QMJHL and the Memorial Cup winning all the marbles. What a performance by Nathan MacKinnon, who, if he goes there, will form a dynamic one-two punch with Jonathan Huberdeau in Sunrise, Florida. Dale Tallon can't lose even if he ends up with Jones.

Second, I'd like to point out this is the third year in a row a team from the "Q" has won the CHL championship. I'd also like to point out that since the "Q" expanded and transferred a couple of franchises into the Maritime provinces and gained exclusive drafting rights to Atlantic Canada's hockey players the League's fortunes seem to have risen. At one time this area was not considered much of place to scout for hockey talent. Thatbseems to have changed. I don't know what's in the water in Cole Harbour, NS, but Hockey Canada should be getting samples for testing.

Final trivia note: the last Maple Leaf to ever win the League scoring title was a chap named Gordie Drillon.....from Saint John, NB.

    Have a good day all!

    1. Congrats to the Mooseheads team, organization and fans. The resurgence of the 'Q' is good for the game. Our own DGMB has boeufed up the local scouts so that is good.

Donald Audette scouts for the Habs in the Q, there may be others as well.

The aforementioned Gordie Drillon played his last season for Montreal and he was actually born in Moncton. We still claim him as ours though cuz he's buried here. I seem to recall seeing him around City Hall when I first started working there...I think he worked for the police department in some capacity.

    4. It was an amazing year to be a Moose Maniac. A special shout out to the Maritimer and thanks to his SeaDogs for trading Stephen MacAulay to us. Huge factor in the win, he made the whole team better and he has been to the Memorial Cup three years in a row, and won two of them.

Stephen's mother died just before the playoffs. The game was in Halifax against Saint John's. Not only did Jonathan Huberdeau fly up from Florida for the funeral, but the entire Seadogs and Mooseheads teams went to the funeral. Stephen MacAulay commands a great deal of respect. Every hockey player he plays with is better for the experience.

I will always respect the Sea Dogs for this. The Drakkar? Well, they are the Q's answer to the Broons.

The 47-year-old comes to the Canadiens after working as an amateur scout with the Dallas Stars organization. A sixth-round pick of the Hartford Whalers at the 1985 entry draft, Churla spent 11 seasons in the NHL with the Whalers, Flames, North Stars/Stars, Kings and Rangers. In 488 games, he had 26 goals and 45 assists to go along with 2,301 penalty minutes.“Shane played a major role in our amateur scouting department and we want to thank him for his eight years of dedicated service to the Dallas Stars organization.” Stars GM Jim Nill told the Dallas Morning News. “We also want to congratulate Shane on his promotion to Montreal and wish him only the best in his future endeavors.”

Harold Snepts is the only other to crack the 1000 mark at 1033.

Billy Smith played the most for a goalie at 680 games.
Did you know Smith was drafted by the present defending champion LA Kings. He played 5 games for them in 71-72 before the Isles snagged him in the expansion draft (a la Voukoun). It's all right, the Kings got this guy named Vachon (who was unhappy about losing his status to this kid named Dryden) from the Habs for a song, so it worked out for them....Smith mind you went on to play 17 seasons and win 4 cups, so there's that.

It's probably a local thing in NB, we used to call the Ah Caramel things Vachon Cakes. Even though on the edge of the Acadian section of the province, we weren't very french. So we also called the logs Billet Logs and pass some of that Old Fort Cheese...
