  1. Outstanding work Moeman, I started laughing with the first photo and did not stop until the end. Its Canada Day down Canada way! Go Timmins, Vinny take a Canada day haircut for the team and the system.

Happy Canada Day weekend all! It's a wet one down east, but I won't complain after seeing what Calgary's gone through. Great SF moeman. I'll be at the cottage (rain be damned) and without technology on the weekend. Hope the draft goes well. I'm torn on Vinny. What sort of discount might he give? Do you pay him $5m for 3 years? Going to be an interesting summer hockey-wise all around. CHEERS

  6. On Canada Day I shall be in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the north of England. My hope is that it is nice and warm and I shall raise a glass to you all on more than one occasion rest assured. Moeman, a great SF once again.

I'm not sure about Vinnie - certainly not big on overpaying for him. It's whether or not he wants all the shit that goes with being a "superstar francophone" playing for the Habs. Sure there are advantages, but the pressure is like nothing he will have ever experienced in Florida. You gotta think he'd want a shot at being a Hab. He's minted so money isn't the issue. I don't know but I suspect he'd be good in the room (unless someone knows better) and he's got the experience the Habs could use. I say if DGMB can make a deal - say 3 years at 2.5m per then it's well worth a punt. But let's not drag this out all summer. Shit or get off the pot! He either wants to be a Hab or he doesn't - simple really!

  7. "Rob Rossi of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported on Wednesday that Letang preferred the Toronto Maple Leafs atop a potential list of teams to go to should he be unable to sign an extension with the Penguins."

Why is it that everytime there's rumors of a trade, everyone prefers the leaf?

I mean, really, they can't all be DYING to play for that silly franchise... *facepalm*

  9. My thought on original thought, if I had one I would hire 29 and be rich. So lets put that idea out of our heads. What you think is not what you think, its what someone has programmed into you. Can you defeat the program? If your under thirty not likely because education used to be dedicated to defeating the program, that was the purpose of education, now the purpose is to make sure you never break with the program.

What brought this on was Moemans musical selection for a Canada Day. Who represents Canada in a culture setting. Our movies are either lame or ignored, our TV is worse. In Music we got something. Right now in the twenty first century. The twenty first century, it makes me feel like part of the enterprise to mouth those words. If you wanted to say to world that is so into their own self, this is Canada, who would you send? Obviously me. However thats not the way the world works. So we have Stompin Tom who will not even get in the door, the Guess Who who will have them saying Who, Gordon Lightfoot which is a good choice but it might as well be opra. Blue Rodeo another band that was great but really did not rock. A whole bunch of femmes who sing formula songs, with apologies to Sarah Mclahann and Sarah Hammer. Counting down the Sam Roberts Band, but now dated. Arcade Fire, but with a transplanted Texan in the lead, a little toxic. We are left with the everloving, every keep on keeping on, always rockin Hip. Moeman said the same think with just a link.

    1. I have a crazy idea. I will one day put all my best blog comments from the METAUNIVERSE. Into one long stream of consisins vine, and I will become like Oprah with a purpose. The only thing stopping me is the prospect of being imprisoned in Iceland, Ecudoor or worse.

    2. Pimping 29, sounds like a cool Canadian band name. 29 would remind us that we also exported RUSH.

I'll add that (referencing the link above) our country has exported an incredible array of comedians and comedic actors. SCTV, Kids in the Hall, (for what he is worth, Lorne Michaels and the incredible list of SNLers from Canada). The list is long and it has to say something about who and what we are as a nation. We are the Just for Laughs country, on some kind of brain candy, which is probably beer. Like, http://www.beaus.ca/news/the-tom-green-beer

      Delete
    3. RUSH, I never liked them, but people working in visual media who are not telling Canadian story's do not work for Canada. Degrassi is a big hit show, I say its exploitative but still maybe the biggest Canadian export, Trailer Park Boys is right up there with SCTV but both are fading memories. Flashpoint was also not Canadian. Continuum is a great Canadian story, but again who is listening. Relevant and real, right here right now the Hip are the sharp end of the spear. They are our global cultural warriors as old and square as that might be.

      Delete
    4. @Moeman Ken Dryden tried Pimping 29 and no one voted for him. Seriously if the Liberals had picked a dry den over a wet green, history would have been so much easier to read.

Lots of rumours being floated Price and prospects or picks to Florida or Tampa for their pick. Heh, heh, sounds like Eklund crap.

Sam Constantino at Sportsnet did a mock draft with Zach Fucale falling to the Habs at #25. I'd be cool with that although I don't see him falling that far. Even if they don't trade Price I hope they draft a goalie at some point.

Like I said before, with a mitt full of picks and 9mil in cap space MB has to make some noise this weekend. If he stands pat, he'll be picking a lot higher than 25th in June 2014.

They then learned Nathan Horton will also leave as a free agent. Their GM spent draft day Sunday calling out their stud pick from 2010 saying he needs to learn to be a professional. What is going on for the Stanley Cup Finalists? I All that said, when they did get to the Draft table, Linus Arnesson isn’t a bad pick, but the rest of their day was filled with reaches.

  88. Ok I a done with hockey until October. I can not take any more abuse from the NHL, its players, its agents, its coaches, its general manager and most of all it BUTTHEAD HEAD.

Gee, go on the road for a couple of days and all kinds of interesting things happen.

Fuck Vinnie, he would have been an upgrade on DDD, but he ain't worth what Philthy is paying him or the term. I don't know if the Philthy fans turn on their own like we do, but I've got a feeling he will be feeling some pressure kinda like Bryz. Holmgren obviously can't learn from his mistakes....and he still doesn't have a goalie.

The Kristo trade, meh, they basically swapped AHL smurfs, who cares.

    Anything else going on?

    1. I know Thomas' Mom and she is a fantastic person and a, wait for it, Habs fan, despite her husband being a leaf. If the kid has some of his father's on-ice moxy and uses his size+skill to his advantage, he could become a very good 3rd/4th liner. Also, said Mom is a looker.

    2. Allegedly half the players are drafted because they have hot mom's?

    3. the Maritimer9:10 AM

Thanks moe, I hope the kid works out. I don't recall any hockey player, even the homely ones, not ending up with a hottie as a wife. Domi and his ex were at the draft with their kid, she was better looking than Belinda.

Oh, Steve Thomas was a Blackhawk for a while as well, if I recall.

    4. So the reason I live in the UK is because I married a Brit. She lived in Toronto in the house that Steve Thomas bought when he played for the leaf. Not sure if he still lives there and I don't really care. I do care that the Habs traded for ANOTHER 5'9 player. I mean - wtf - are we learning nothing from the past? The Habs need to get bigger!

I thought Kristo had grit, so why do we trade him for another smurf with grit.
Anyway, fuck Vinnie, he wants to go to the city of brotherly love that's his call. He doesn't want to come here, fine, we don't want him anyway .... he's too tall. I would like to know the offer he spit on tho. Just to know if DGMB went for it or not.

  91. the Maritimer1:00 PM

I hope the fans at the Bell Centre boo Vinnie every time he touches the puck like they did Briere when he rejected the Habs for Philthy money.

Wonder what MB is going to do with that extra 9mil of cap space? I smell a trade somewhere down the road.

Please, no. Whenever the Habs are playing the Bruins or Flyers and those teams look at the likes of Desharnais, Gionta and Gallagher skating in the warmup they are probably pissing themselves laughing. No more little wee guys please. Give your head a shake Bergevin.

How come no one is talking about Iggy? He's probably got more left in the tank than Vinnie. I'd take him for 2 or 3 years.

    Are you fucking kidding me?

The Bruins, Flyers and Leafs must be laughing their asses off at Bergevin. Another washed up midget hockey player. I’ll bet Bergevin is chasing Nathan Gerbe next.

Briere, Gionta, Desharnais, Gallagher and Plekanec? I repeat, are you fucking kidding me? Wow, just…….wow. Did he not learn anything watching Ottawa demolish his smurf squad?

This may be the proverbial straw. I may quit the NHL and stick to watching junior hockey.

    What a joke.

FWIW, here in the Gatineau area he is known as a likeable and extremely community focused individual. I hope to see the genuine-ness of wearing the CH.
