Just to change up the hnic leaf hysteria, Plecky is playing a hell of a game tonight. I thought that line with Gionta and Briere as his wingers would be too small (and they probably will be come playoffs) but they have a ton of experience and are dangerous anytime they are on the ice. PleXXX reminds me of another Czech player who was sneaky good - Robert Reichel.

  66. LIVE GAME REPORT!

After a quick post-game beverage your intrepid reporter has returned to the nest to see his fave pic in the ice cream thread. Giddyup. No AnnaG sightings tonight but a thrill a minute nonetheless. What an atmosphere. The only downside was that I sat next to a Leaf fan. A nice enough guy, and he even admitted he hated Dianne Phaneuf and Kadri. But otherwise, typical delusional Leaf fan. He got upset every time the fans reacted to a near miss, because it wasn't "a shot on goal". Meanwhile, when the Leaf just missed on that (ridiculous) PP with 4 minutes to go he screamed louder than anyone. And of course, he insisted the Leaf has the 2 best goalies in the league.

Let me say one thing - the Leaf are terrible. Their defense is pathetic. They back up constantly, and give up the puck at the slightest hint of forechecking pressure. They are completely disorganized in both zones. They are just not a good team.

Props to PatCHes of course, KidG, and a special shoutout to both Bourque and Murray, who quietly had very effective games. And DDD continues to turn around his season (knock wood). Good all around balanced game from the boys. Well, except for GCHuk, who seems lost out there, and frustrated. He needs to turn it around somehow.

    I feel good.

  67. Jesus H. Christ. First line of the article on TSN (by the Canadian Press):
MONTREAL -- The Toronto Maple Leafs had many reasons to be upset Saturday night, but it was Max Pacioretty's showboating that stood out the most.

Apparently that stirred the leaf, and from the quotes on their side they must have won the game. Unfortunately you have to wait till the 9th paragraph to find out who actually did win.

Nope, the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Nazem Kadri and Randy Carlyle didn’t appreciate Montreal Canadiens forward Max Pacioretty’s stick-twirl-and-holster celebration after his second goal of the night, which gave the Habs a 4-0 second period lead in a game they would eventually win 4-2."

    Hey, leaf, STFU!

    ReplyDelete
  71. Yep, lots of whining about PatCHes' celebration, I thought it was cool. RC2 says that motivated them, made them 'mad emotionally" Really? too late for that eh?

leaf fans (not hockey fans as moe always points out), the lowest hockey IQ (wink) of any NHL fans didn't complain when Tiger Williams scored and rode his stick like a horse the length of the ice at Maple Leaf Gardens back in the day. The Toronto mediots have been trained and brainwashed to Cherry's way of thinking for 30 years. Fuck those assholes, I loved the stick twirl and holster move. I liked PFK's bow and arrow move reminiscent of Usain Bolt's race win celebration. The problem is the Toronto media is so fucking straight laced and conservative like Harper and Ford their brains reject any form of creativity as something disrespectful. Get over yourselves you fucking morons.

  77. OK - time for me to come to terms with the weekend. I was pissed off at the loss on Friday night - it never should have happened and therefore I was not in the best of moods on Saturday, especially when I saw that Parros was in and Blanche was out. He played pretty well on Friday. So I saw, in my tiny mind, the Habs falling in the trap of playing someone else's game, killing loads of penalties and lossing to the leaf, which I was in no mood to take lightly - hence my rather harsh critique throughout the course of Saturday. But now, I suppose I owe eMpTy2 an apology. Parros got just over 3 and a half minutes of ice time plus his obligatory fight - although I really hate those staged ones where they dance for 10 minutes then go in like a couple of mountain goats banging heads - but that was it. He actually made a decent couple of plays in the 2nd period and when the game mattered most, he was no where to be seen - except I suppose having a chat with GCHuk about what he should go for when he is old enough to grow a stache - and this was smart coaching. I suppose he was brought into the team for games like this and full credit to him, he played his part. And that is what has impressed me so much since Saturday night. This team is playing as a team. Everyone seems to be stepping up and helping each other out. DGMB stepped up when Dudley was approached - he helped him out with a new deal. Stephane Waite has stepped up and helped both TFS and Budi out and that shows too. Overall this team is good - missing a true sniper - but still good and with a lot of potential. And so credit to eMpTy2 where credit is due. He coached a good game on Saturday and the Habs won. That being said - they still shouldn't have lost on Friday night...

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. the Maritimer7:16 AM

I'd cut George Parros some slack. I dislike the staged fight as well, but other than Princess Phaneuf's cheap shots, no leaf tried to maim a Hab. Nuclear deterrent.

      I still don't care for eMpTy2.0.

      Delete
    2. I also dislike the staged fights, like the one out west, they drop 'em at the faceoff as the puck went in. and we lost a goal. Orr also declined an invitation from Parros on one occasion. If they signed Parros they can't just sit him all season else what was the point of signing him in the first place? I guess as long as they don't give him big minutes. Though I am curious if MT puts him in the line-up against the broons.

      Delete
    3. I don't like staged fights either, but the reality is this is a league that allows, even encourages, them. So the Habs need someone who can answer that bell, unfortunately. The leaf took a lot less liberties than they have in the past with Parros around, and my guess is the broon will do the same on Thursday. Still expect stick work and hits from behind from the usual suspects though (with no calls, of course).

The referees going are Tim Peel, Dave Jackson, Mike Leggo, Brad Meier, Kevin Pollock, Ian Walsh and Kelly Sutherland, while the linesmen are Lonnie Cameron, Derek Amel, Greg Devorski, Brad Kovachik, Andy McElman and Mark Wheler.
