"I feel sorry for Ovi and the rest of the Russians because they had a dream to win the gold medal here in front of the home crowd," said Selanne, who scored what proved to be the game winner in the opening period.
"But in hockey, you never know. That's why it's so exciting because you never know what's going to happen. Tonight was a good example of that."
Is there a medal for being the classiest guy in hockey? The Russian coach who stubbornly played KHL guys over NHL stars, and kept Bob out of net, then blamed Ovie for the loss, would certainly finish last.
If the Russians were smart they would hire Ted Nolan from the Latvians. Sure would be a kick to their collective egos to have a Canadian lead them but they might get the results. After all the bobsleigh team hired Pierre Luders.
Watching a Canadian come across a finish line on their feet is becoming increasingly rare. Good for Brady, though. Good job to get that far. Unlike the other two, who were actual big favourites.
The Great Wall of France. But if our guys could have, you know, actually performed then they would have been in that position instead. But whatever, that's sport.
3-3 after 5. Basically, everyone on Canada looks like they're trying to lose while Jones is saving their ass . Sweden just had a shot for 4 (could have been worse if not for Jones) but fucked up a bit and only 2.
Congrats to Canada's Olympic Curlers. I would like to see Chess as an Olympic Sport as well. Of course you would need to add some physical element. Everyone has seen those life size chess pieces that you move around on a huge board. Make them out of Granite.
On the way back to the office, Hockey Central at Noon was on the radio. They were speaking with John Shannon, who I guess is in Sochi. It took about 11 seconds for the question "So John, right now who is the better Kessel?" I quickly changed it back to Tempo on CBC2.
Is there anything more boring than a hockey interview. Another thing I like about the Olympics, spontaneous interviews with amateurs that don't just give the same 5 standard answers.
I remember when PK was allowed to speak. It was so refreshing. I turned on 'Olympic Morning' the other day and I think it was Shea Weber. Holy boring fuck batman! PK though - he's bad for the game, bad influence and disrespectful...fuck me.
Another Chokula like performance. It's like a disease pervading in hockey. Oh for the days of Gretzky/Kurri or Lemieux/Jagr when scoring goals was in vogue not this stifling defence crap.
I think that might be the men's team Canada's problem. I think Hitchcock, another trap disciple, has control of the defence, hence PK has been banished to the stands.
I see the Russians bought another gold medal in, what else...figure skating. The Korean girl got ripped off...what a corrupt business this figure skating. A complete joke. Is Bettman involved somehow?
Oh lord, I have idea what happened in figure skating, but it's not going to be pretty in Korea for a while. There is still seething hatred for Apollo Ohno from 2002. Like, screaming rants when his name is mentioned.
Korea crashed the FIFA site in 2006 for a phantom offside by the Swiss for a goal that didn't even matter. FIFA had to block access from Korean IPs for a few days.
I'm not leaving the house tomorrow. Luckily, I wasn't planning to.
What a performance by the ladies. I'll admit I thought they were done being down by 2 in the 3rd period. I have to agree (shudder) with Cherry, never discount the Canadian heart and desire to win, in hockey anyway. And that dreaded 2 goal lead... Congrats to Kevin Dineen for a job well done. Great bench management.
Wonder what kind of beer Mr. Harper will ask from the POSTUS.
Way to go Canada - what a comeback! The indomidable fighting spirit lives in you all! When the Yanks hit the post on the empty net I knew it was going to happen!! Now let's see that same fight in the guys tomorrow!
Canadian women rock! The two Hot sisters in the moguls, The two woman bobsled, The Curler Jennifer, The skiing halfpipe cross thingie girl, and the Hockey Godesses. Go Canada Go Habs
@CraigJButton: R @Bin_Landon @Buccigross Hayley's right skate catches right skate of Hillary Knight & she is actually falling before Hayley! No impeding!

ReplyDeleteWatching a Canadian come across a finish line on their feet is becoming increasingly rare. Good for Brady, though. Good job to get that far. Unlike the other two, who were actual big favourites.
I'm choosing to blame the evil French for ganging up on him in the final. But yes, it was the other guys who should have been there. sigh
DeleteThe Great Wall of France. But if our guys could have, you know, actually performed then they would have been in that position instead. But whatever, that's sport.
DeleteC'mon Jenny! Let's right this Canadian ship!
ReplyDeleteThe Swiss have come back in the women's bronze medal game with 4 goals in the third to go ahead 4-2 with a minute left.
ReplyDeleteAnd it's bronze for the Swiss. First for them in women's hockey. Who says it's not competitive?
DeleteOf course they went 2-4 for the whole tourney to get that bronze. Win when you have to.
Delete3-1 Jones going to the 5th, Sweden with the hammer.
ReplyDeleteanyone else hearing PFK is in and Peteranglo is out?
ReplyDelete=+76
DeleteOnly news I have is about some idiots wearing blackface in PK jerseys in Sochi.
DeleteThose Swedish gals would make great Vikings. Just sayin'.
ReplyDelete3-3 after 5. Basically, everyone on Canada looks like they're trying to lose while Jones is saving their ass . Sweden just had a shot for 4 (could have been worse if not for Jones) but fucked up a bit and only 2.
ReplyDeleteBabcock at the curling match. "Mike Babcock likes curling because there's no Latvian goaltender".
ReplyDelete+55 saves
DeleteI have caught the last 3 ends or so and o'man is right, the other 3 besides JJ are not curling well.
ReplyDelete1 po0int by the skin of their teeth. 4-3 Canada, lost the hammer
ReplyDeleteHuge break for Canada by half a cm. 4-3 going to 9. Sweden with the hammer.
ReplyDeleteNow Swe not curling so well. No one wants to win!
ReplyDeleteA few drinks might help them all.
DeleteSTEAL OF TWO!!!!!! 6-3 CAN going to the 10th with Swe with the hammer. wow
ReplyDeleteSteal of two for Canada! 6-3 going to the 10th!
ReplyDeleteHoly crap!
ReplyDeleteThat's it for Jen. She couldn't fuck this up if she tried.
Don't say that!!!
DeleteOne of our girls, Roz G, has qualified for the ski half pipe final. Our other one has another chance to get in there.
ReplyDeleteSmiles all around!
ReplyDeleteGOLD FOR JJ AND CANADA!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGOLD!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a job by Jennifer Jones! A curling machine.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Canada's Olympic Curlers.
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Chess as an Olympic Sport as well. Of course you would need to add some physical element. Everyone has seen those life size chess pieces that you move around on a huge board. Make them out of Granite.
Chessboxing, seems to be popular but not my cup of tea. There seems to be hope to make the Olympics.
Deletehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTcsWmkYg68
Total domination this week by Jennifer and her team. First female team to go perfect at the Olympics.
ReplyDeleteAlright hockey ladies. Let this get you going!
ReplyDeleteWoohoo for Jones! Sad I was unable to watch.
ReplyDeleteWay to go Jennifer !
ReplyDeleteGo Hockey Girls !
Go Canada !
Go Habs !

ReplyDeleteHoly fuck those fucking nitwits on hockey central are still yapping about Price not being good enough.
ReplyDeleteGO FUCK YOURSELVES YOU FUCKING LEAF FUCKING LAP DOGS!!!!!!!!!
Congrats to our Golden Curlers!
ReplyDeleteGo Canada Go!!

ReplyDeleteWell, much more entertaining than the last men's game anyway.
ReplyDeleteOne Kessel out today, another Kessel out tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteCash it ladies.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the deal not having water bottles for the goalies? No wonder the Latvian goalie was becoming dehydrated.
ReplyDeleteDD, Patches and the Habs 1st round pick to the Islanders for the now injured John Tavares. I'd wait for him.
ReplyDeleteWomen or no, this is quality hockey

ReplyDeleteFRAK
ReplyDeleteShit
ReplyDeleteMaybe Jennifer Jones can lace up here. She's good at making her shots.
ReplyDeleteThis can't be good.
ReplyDeleteThis is going nowhere fast. On the positive side, Kessel didn't score, though I'm sure CBC will find a way to make her the star.
ReplyDeleteOne positive for Canada...2-0 is the worst lead in hockey.
ReplyDeleteUnless you're playing the Habs.
C'mon girls!
ReplyDeleteWould be great to see gold, champagne and stogies again.
USA's Chokula shell is impressive
ReplyDeleteConfused why Canada just doesn't try to make something happen on the fly instead of getting set up and letting the Americans smother them in the zone.
ReplyDeletePVRing a vintage game on NHLN Habs vs Broons 1979, don't remember who won, so don't tell me, it'l be like watching for the 1st time.
ReplyDeleteWooohooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I see the Russians bought another gold medal in, what else...figure skating. The Korean girl got ripped off...what a corrupt business this figure skating. A complete joke. Is Bettman involved somehow?

ReplyDeleteI'm too modest and that place is infested with leaf cockroaches.....and cocksuckers excuse my language.
DeleteI literally cannot believe this. Am I asleep? Is this real life?
ReplyDeleteIt's 5am. I was barely keeping my eyes open an hour ago. How am I going to sleep now?
ReplyDeleteWhat a performance by the ladies. I'll admit I thought they were done being down by 2 in the 3rd period. ReplyDeleteAnd some kudos to Kevin Dineen for coming in at the last minute and helping to pull this off
Ok, I'll take the same tomorrow, thankyouverymuch.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if Mr. Putin stuck around to watch this game. If not he missed a humdinger.
ReplyDeleteBoy do the US ever look defected.
ReplyDelete*dejected*
DeleteOn the bright side, silver goes better with their unis anyhow.
ReplyDeleteAnd they still can't shut up about Kessel, both of them.
ReplyDeleteUh oh, see that tug on the Canadian jersey? She may just be a +76 fan and sending him a secret salute.
ReplyDelete*It was Sbatos*
DeleteHeh, heh, Dick Pound is probably telling them they have to pee in a bottle shortly.....
ReplyDeleteFuck off with the leaf comments Kelly.
Not sure who's watching and where, Dineen gave someone his credit card and told them to take the girls for dinner and drinks on him.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's been quite a day for the Canadian ladies in curling and hockey. Well done girls we are all proud.
ReplyDeleteAnd off to bed. Hopefully. NIght all.
ReplyDeleteCANADAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
ReplyDeleteAs I walked into the IGS to pick up my son the gals score the winning goal. You could hear screams across the entire store. What a win!!!
Way to go Canada - what a comeback! The indomidable fighting spirit lives in you all! When the Yanks hit the post on the empty net I knew it was going to happen!! Now let's see that same fight in the guys tomorrow!
