  4. Hey all I had to go dark for awhile - had pvr'd yesterday's game and actually made it home without hearing the score. That's not easy. Too bad Patches is American. Feel bad for him. Awesome for Teemu though! The hate towards Price by leaf fans and the mediots (which are one in the same) is absolutely mind boggling. I just don't get it. It's not like the Habs have even been a cup threat in the last 20 years. I remember as a kid hating the early 80's Islanders and then the Oilers, but I still respected what they acheived. This hate is completely unfathomable. But I'm vowing to move on and not give a flying fuck what those idiots have to say anymore. Go CArey! Go CAnada!
And it fucking kills me to see Sharp on the point during the PP instead of PK. #freesubban

The Canadian ski cross association is appealing the 1-2-3 finish of the French skiers because they were using aerodynamic illegal PANTS! Those dirty French cheaters.

My French grandmother always said: If you ain't cheatin' you ain't tryin. Apparently she was on to something.

I'm going to BBQ some steaks tomorrow, how do you do those spuds?

    3. Bake the potatoes as you normally would (I nuke em for 7 or 8 minutes to speed up the process first). When baked to your desired tenderness, take them out, cut the top off lengthwise (think of a canoe shape), scoop out the insides into a bowl, mash the potatoes. I add butter, a bit of milk, cheese (something old or sharp preferred, but I've only got mozza tonight) and garlic to the mash, mix it all up and stuff it back into the potatoes and bake for another 20 or so. I also put the lids I cut off face up and sprinkle cheese on them. Bacon bits, chives and/or green onions in the potatoe mixture is amazing too.

    2. Seems this could originate from supplements. Could be just an innocent mistake but this article says they should check with (in this case, the IOC anti-doping) if their supplement is approved or not.

      http://www.cces.ca/en/advisories-42-supplements-proven-to-contain-banned-substances
(Ottawa, Ontario – March 1, 2012) – The Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport (CCES) advises athletes and support personnel that supplements and sport nutrition products continue to be the source of doping violations, around the world and here at home.

“Many Canadian athletes take supplements, including pre-workout products, protein powders, energy drinks and vitamins,” said Paul Melia, President and CEO of the CCES. “Many of these products contain banned substances, which may be revealed only after they cause a positive test. I don’t think athletes fully appreciate the damage that taking supplements could do to their athletic career.”

A good example of this major problem is the high number of recent violations for methylhexaneamine. On the World Anti-Doping Agency’s (WADA) Prohibited List, methylhexaneamine (dimethylpentylamine) is listed as a stimulant, prohibited in-competition.

  10. Discussion topic for the evening - Canadian flag-bearer?

I would have said Bilodeau, but apparently he went home so I guess he's out. So I say Humphries and Moyse, who also defended a gold medal. JJ a close 2nd

You don't find it odd that all three skiers from the same country finished 1-2-3? Something's not right.

    4. oh i find it odd alright. it's just weird that pants would somehow help you in ski cross. though i do remember back in the day when some Crazy Canucks got stripped of some world cup win because of illegal suits. but i thought that was a joke at the time

Finally dipped my toes into the House of Cards. Kevin Spacey is delightful. I don't like his wife Claire though.

I'm going to hazard a guess he jumps into the sack with Zoe at some point.

    Only 3 episodes in.

  20. Funny, during the ski cross coverage Mitch Peacock asked Ashleigh McIvor about the suits, why don't they wear the skin suits like alpiners? She said some stuff and explained that there are strict rules about what can and cannot be worn. Apparently every suit is measured and checked after the race. They brought it up again after the French won, so I wonder if there were suspicions at the time, too.

I don't expect much to happen there, though. Even if the ruling goes in Canada and Slovenia's favour, it has to be accepted by the IOC and that's a whole other monster. They don't even flinch at figure skating judges openly cheating.

On a related note, a Belarussian shot putter tested positive for dope and had all his previous medals stripped, except his 2008 bronze which would have moved a Canadian into the medals. There are some countries that the IOC listens to, so that aren't.

  21. I'm up and ready to go! 1:15pm here, game is at 9. Going to a friend's house to watch on a big screen, though it'll be on the Korean channel (if they're done showing the last Korean gold medal on a loop...seriously, that's what they do instead of showing events. And we thought NBC was bad).

My friends are American and British, and have no dog in this race. They have let me know they will be actively cheering against Canada, which only makes it better. My Canadian friends are going to a bar here, but I cannot handle watching big games at a bar. Too much stress, I don't need crowds and noise on top of it. Plus I need my booze readily available win or lose.

    GO CANADA GO!
