Team Canada will play the winner of Swiss/Latvia. Score was 1-0 Swiss in round robin. In fact, the Swiss outscored their opponents 2-1 in 3 games. zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Go Latvia!
The Swiss v Latvia game will be at noon EST on Tues. Canada will play the winner at noon on Wednesday.
Sweden vs Slovenia/Austria at 3am Wed morning. Finland vs Norway/Russia at 730am USA vs Slovakia/Czech at the same time as the Canada game.
Canada will face the winner of the USA v Slo/Cze game.
USA is dominating SWE. Not a huge surprise, but was hoping for more of a game.
Oh god, Amanda Kessel scores and right away CBC is all over her brother. Imagine if the leaf had an actual superstar? I don't remember this level of adoration for Sundin, who was actually a much better player.
Brad Jacobs will play China in the curling semifinal.
Not much going on in Sochi today since fog has postponed everything outside. Look for Canada in bobleigh and men's aerials today. And of course Scott and Tessa tonight (though the judges have already handed out the medals in their minds).
Yes, I'm on vacation this week and will watch the Olympics all day. That's my plan. Who needs Thailand?
I turned on the TV today. The banner said USA vs Switzerland hockey. I watched as one skater skakated, and I thought maybe both teams were on Special K. As it turns out it was a ladies game. No nails were broken.
So over the last few days I banged out the first half of Caprica. Eric Stoltz! Thought he was good. The origin of cylons is interesting. Not sure if I really like it though, though with only one season I guess it didn't turn out all that good anyway. Did my fellow FHFBSGers watch it? What did you think?
Odd that some sports commentators yip about the unfair advantage Canada and the US have in women's hockey. Other nations dominate other sports in as much a big way.
I just had an argument with a friend over this. I did some research and math (did I mention I'm vacation) and proved that China dominates table tennis more than Canada dominates hockey, and China+Korea dominate TT more than Canada+US. And we're only talking about the women's side of hockey compared to all of TT, and there are way more medals available in TT.
Just to switch gears for a second, I watched the Three Stooges @Noon today, MacLean was advocating for PK to be re-inserted into the Team Canada line-up as Hamhuis was basically not used at all yesterday and he figured PK could at least generate some offence from the back end. Makes sense to me, too bad Babcock brought eMTy's lasso and stop watch with him.
I didn't see them skate, but there was nothing that Scott and Tessa could have done to win gold. Agree with the M. The fix was on.
If looking for something else to watch, I suggest watching the Great Britain/Russia womens curling again. Or the /Russia womens curling. Sad they didn't make the playoffs.
So Canada vs. Switzerland men's Q-finals game goes up against the scheduled at the same time US game. Will the cockroaches fill the screen with their kesseltracker?
Jesus, CBC has to show the Amanda Kessel goal (again). LET IT GO. How in love with a B-class hockey player do you have to be to show his sister's goal in a lopsided game over and over?
Re: figure skating - this so-called sport has been corrupt for decades. The rumours were the Russian and American judges were going to vote for each others participants in team skating and ice dancing so those respective teams would each win gold. The best Canada could ever do was silver. I never watch that stuff anymore.
The weird part is the skaters don't seem to want to rattle their judged world. If you know you are being fucked over, say something and/or get a sports-minded lawyer.
I can kind of see why...if you can garner the necessary votes beforehand it doesn't matter if you fuck up on the ice...you'll win anyway! So don't rock the boat and eventually your turn will come.
Thx for the link juce. I think BR is an American-based hockey blog but that article reeked of everything the CotU mediots have been spewing all year. Almost as bad as that POS pfuck daddy and his constant leaf/broon love and Habs hate.
According to Fried man, he now knows what happened with CArey. 5 GM's watCHed CArey closely during the season and they decided going in that he would be the goalie.
Can those same 5 GMs explain relegating +76 to 8th Dman? High risk. high reward? Its the Olympics, you don't win if you don't go balls out and hockey isn't a judged sport. Or is it?
So, yeah, this weekend I binge'd on Netflix's 2nd season of 'House of Cards'. It is beautifully shot and directed (various Directors, see Wikipedia) and the acting is award-worthy. Cool Canadian gal Molly Parker is dirty fun, Kevin Spacey is a seriously Fucked Up Francis Underwood who gives a F U to everyone, OK almost everyone. I binge'd in two parts, dicing the 13 episodes in an uneven 9 to 4 split. Blame Robin Wright. She is that good and that gorgeous on screen. All in all a solid 9/10 and FFS I gotta wait a year for Season 3. Also, too, the original BBC production is supposedly really good, so here goes, OK, after the Olympics. Search Netflix for 'House of Cards Trilogy (BBC)'. Did I mention how gorgeous Robin Wright is? WTF?! no spoilers? You wish.
The mix of sex (multi-racial, multi-partner, almost Asian fantasy) crime (bookending blood from 1 to 13), history (civilly done) dirty politics (includes Xanax!) and agendas (they should've taken down the starred General raping prick) is tight. The cybercrime-ish/Snowdenwannabe stuff was weak. Robin Wright is sublime and sublimely shared. See kidz, no spoilers cuz you gotta figure it out for yourselves. Did I mention Robin Wright's figure?
OK, a few spoilers. The First Lady (she is a babe!) uses a Windows Phone, a few ol' politicos (still) use blackberries and lots and lots of Apple logos (because, you know, Apple products are secure, trust me).
So here's a nice pic of bronze medalist Kim Lamarre cheering on PK in her Habs jersey. https://twitter.com/kim_lamarre/status/434649669889953792/photo/1
And also PK (and others) with silver medalist Mikael Kingsbury. https://twitter.com/MikaelKingsbury/status/434753287691444224/photo/1
So I gather real hockey fans, successful hockey fans, know who to cheer for.
I also just wanted to mention about Bleacher Report, mentioned above, has proved itself to be an unprofessional pro-American rag. Before the Olympics even started they ran about 4-5 stories about how Team Canada would suck in Sochi. Fine, it's American. Then last week they ran an article explaining why people should root against ALL Canadians at the Olympics. It was wrapped up like it was supposed to be a tongue in cheek ribbing, but it was really mean spirited and not funny at all. I looked up the guy and he's written a few similar things about Canada. He obviously has a hate-boner for us. Incidentally, he used to cover the Rangers. It really came off as the guy at the party who makes really offensive "jokes" about minorities and women, then laughs at himself and says people just have no sense of humour when they walk away in disgust. I'm all for off-colour jokes, but they have to be funny and you can't make the same "jokes" every time.
Plus BR is totally clueless on the Olympics. In their medal picks, they basically look through the start list and say Americans will win everything. The other day they said that Korea and the US dominate short track. Except that China and Canada have equal medals, both much more than the US and closer to Korea than the US is to them. They really don't know what they're talking about, it's just more U-S-A! U-S-A gibberish.
I downloaded the br app on my iPad for the Olympics break - what a load of shit it has turned out to be...why am I surprised? If I was a yank I suppose I could see a purpose but I am a Canadian and I cannot stand how fuckin biased it is...
Well, I did make that "joke" a few nights ago that the Canadian Olympic Committee was changing the team's tag line from #WeAreWinter to #WeAreWipeOut. Trust me, I have been sitting around watching A LOT of the Olympics, and while athletes fall in every sport all the time, this time around it really does seem to be disproportionately Canadians. Like, by a mile. You guys don't even know the half of it. Even our biathlete surprisingly went into first the other day, and then immediately fell and broke his ski.
Talking to a friend today about the medal count. He was saying it's because our favourites aren't performing. But watch all the Olympics. In reality, our favourites always don't perform. Even Vancouver. It's the surprises that step up that pump up our medal totals.
Canada has the worst World Championship medals to Olympic medal conversion rates of any country for the last few Olympics (maybe more, I don't remember). We also had the most 4th place, and 5th place finishes ever in 2006. People thought that was a sign that Canada was getting so much better until we got the most again in 2010.
The fact is, funding might have been an issue, public support might have been an issue, facilities might have been an issue. But it's obvious there is much more going on. Something in the Canadian psyche about performing on the big stage. I think that's sort of disturbing as a Canadian.
Not blaming individual athletes, they do well just get to get there and it sucks for them.
Price in for quarters. Two Canadians in top 10 for biathlon. All our snowboarders crashed out earlier in the cross race, but this time it was other assholes who took them out. So that's...better...I guess....
By the way, it's been a week since Canada's last gold medal, and it doesn't look too good tonight (Canada has some good ski halfpipers, but the way it's going we'll be lucky if they just stay on their feet).
Kaillie Humphries does her first two runs today, though.
CBC is fucking ridiculous. "He learned that move from Jame Van Reemsdyke in Toronto!" STFU. Oh lord, they're still talking about Toronto. One leaf in all of Sochi, yet they can't shut up about them.
In passing. I only watched the first two periods, but almost every time they mentioned Kulemin they had to mention that he plays for the leaf in one way or another. They even said twice, "He's from Toronto!" No. He's from Russia. That's why he's playing for them.
This may shock everyone, but all four Canadian ski halfpipers stayed on their feet their entire runs! Three of them are in the top 7 (top 12 qualify for the final), with one at the top. Everyone now gets one more run to try to up their scores, but I think those three are safe. The other Canadian is just out, maybe he can get in there, too.
Ok, so that other Canadian fell on his second run. But it started snowing really hard just before he went. At least he put down a run he can be proud of, just out of qualifying.
I don't know if this has been mentioned here, or if anyone's read it. But apparently Slovenia has about 126 registered male hockey players. So 20% of their nation's hockey players are in Sochi right now. And winning.
Ok, our three guys are officially in. Humphries in 2nd. Had a great run, the Americans after her were bumping and skidding everywhere, yet finished in 1st.
I say if we get less medals than Vancouver no Olympic athethe can return to Canada, they must all live forever as people without citizenship like Tom Hanks did in the airport, and no sex with Catherine Zeta Jones either.
Go Canada Go!!!

Canada curling against Korea. Go Canada! Please, go Canada. I don't want to hear about this for the next 4 years.
ReplyDeleteJust turned it on. Ugh, down 2-1 and KOR with the hammer? CMON LADIES
Delete4-1 KOR
DeleteNow 4-4, I thought Orangeman would secretly cheering for the Koreans. As a side note, the Korean girls look like they could be in middle school.
DeleteJen just stole one, 5-4 Canada.
DeleteCanada 3 still in 4th after 3 runs. Outside chance at a bronze
ReplyDeleteI turned on the TV today. The banner said USA vs Switzerland hockey. I watched as one skater skakated, and I thought maybe both teams were on Special K. As it turns out it was a ladies game. No nails were broken.
ReplyDeleteOne Canadian got to the mens' aerials final. But then there is some "super final", so who knows
ReplyDeleteWe only had one, but he's pretty good (#5 in the world). First final has 12, top 6 move on. Then top 4 move on, then the medals.
Delete(BATTLESTAR) GALACTICA UPDATE
ReplyDeleteSo over the last few days I banged out the first half of Caprica. Eric Stoltz! Thought he was good. The origin of cylons is interesting. Never saw any of the spinoffs, so can't comment.
DeleteYou really, really need to start on Spartacus.
I watched about five minutes once a decade ago and felt old
DeleteAlright,GO CANADA GO!
ReplyDelete1-0 CAN!!!!
ReplyDeleteUh, I just feel sorry for these other teams. That's not sarcastic.
ReplyDeleteKorea slowly falling apart. 7-4 Canada and Korea just got called for a hog line violation
ReplyDeleteOdd that some sports commentators yip about the unfair advantage Canada and the US have in women's hockey. Other nations dominate other sports in as much a big way.

DeleteTrue, I heard no one complaining about the Dutch cleaning up in speed skating. Does the IOC make them pee in a bottle?
Delete3-0
ReplyDeleteJennifer Jones just walking all over Korea. Two straight steals of 2. 9-4 going to the 10th.
ReplyDeleteJJ steals 2, up 9-4 going to 10. what a nice turnaround. even bringing in their alternate to throw some rocks in the 10th
ReplyDeleteFeel sorry for the Korean girls, I think they were awe struck by Jen.
DeleteSome of us in here are just as um, awe struck too.
DeleteI hear you.
DeleteHard to imagine anyone beating Jones this week. I could make a joke here about you guys beating something else, but I'm above that.
DeleteSorry, top 8 go through in aerials. It was top 6 in women's.
ReplyDeleteOur guy has qualified into the next round!
ReplyDeleteScott and Tessa taking the ice.
ReplyDeleteLooked like they were smooching before they hit the ice.
DeleteYou know, I'm not into figure skating. But those two are really, really good. It's really artistic. Moving, even.
ReplyDeleteToo bad the fix is already in.

ReplyDelete3-1
ReplyDeleteWell, our aerialist is out. At least he landed his jump.
ReplyDeletethis CAN-SUI game is tighter than it should be
ReplyDeleteThe Swiss Misses are making a game of it, especially their goalie.
DeleteSilver for Tessa & Moir.
ReplyDeleteAnd the Americans get an even higher world record. Of course. Even Usain Bolt loses a race here and there.
ReplyDeleteBolt's only judge is the clock.

DeleteSo Canada vs. Switzerland men's Q-finals game goes up against the scheduled at the same time US game. Will the cockroaches fill the screen with their kesseltracker?
ReplyDeleteThe crappy thing is that gives USA 5 golds to our 4.
ReplyDeleteI'm convinced that both the US and Canada are taking it easy on the other teams in an effort to keep the scores reasonable.
ReplyDeleteJesus, CBC has to show the Amanda Kessel goal (again). LET IT GO. How in love with a B-class hockey player do you have to be to show his sister's goal in a lopsided game over and over?
ReplyDeleteOf the 6 US goals, her's was the only one they showed. They are leaf fans, not hockey fans.
DeleteSzabados has had to make some real saves here. SUI looking more than competent
ReplyDelete4-1, maybe... stand by
ReplyDeletenope. still 3-1
ReplyDeleteThis is what the cockroach mediots dream of during their circle jerks
ReplyDeleteThat is NOT in the line-up for Sexy Friday!
DeleteThat is freaking hilarious! Just as ugly as a female as he is as a male
DeleteGo Ladies Go!!!!!!
ReplyDeletewhew. 3-1 final
ReplyDeleteNow can our ladies repeat the prelim victory over the US? Go Canada Go!
