  3. There is no urgent desire to make a trade so there will not be a trade of significance made. I've said i for some time now...as long as the coach remains nothing will change. He'll report to DGMB that "all's well - we just need to work harder"...or some stupid shit like that...,and then nothing will happen. None of the smurfs will move, the Habs might just squeak into the playoffs but then they will be pushed off onto the golf course when we get to the serious end of the season by a team less talents but bigger and stronger and with a coach who understands that goal scorers only score goals when they are on the ice.

    5. He has great potential, but is an unknown commodity at the NHL level. Well worth the risk in my mind. I had a feeling Vanek would be a Hab but didn't put it out there because it's so infeasible that Burgervan would make a statement trade like that. I'm not adverse to signing him to a big contract if he wants to stay. I've always liked his game.

    ReplyDelete
  59. the Maritimer3:43 PM

Wow, they gave up Collberg for Vanek, although reports say he's not lighting it up in the Swedish mens league and didn't do much in the last WJC. Oh well, De La Rose had moved past him in the depth chart and you have to give up something to get something.

Maybe Vanek will consider re-signing in Montreal if they have a decent run in the playoffs. eMTy will give him a test right off the bat - spell "backcheck".

    ReplyDelete

    1. he is pretty solid in the playoff as well. Colberg is at least two year from NHL, we could have two cups by then

I don't think Vanek will stay. He wants to win the cup.

    3. Chester, Vanek has better chance at cup in Montreal than with Wild, they have a defenceman named Dumba, no chance he does not make a stupid play that costs them a playoff round.

  65. I am reading Lego is sitting because they want to play Parros? Bullshit, classy move but why Lego.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Let’s look at the long term:

Cap is going up to $71M next year. Habs currently have $27M of Cap Space. We let Gionta, Parros, Bouillon, Murray walk.

We pay a bit more to resign Weisse, White, Eller, Weaver. Let’s say $7M for them combined. They currently make $4M combined so that should be feasible. Beaulieu is an extra $900 k if becomes a regular.

That gives us $19M to resign Subban, Markov, & Vanek. Doable. If Space is needed, move one of Bourque or Briere to free up an extra $2M. More than enough to ensure the numbers work for all three.

That would give us (in no particular order):

    Vanek – Plekanec – Briere
    Pacioretty – Desharnais – Gallagher
    Bourque – Eller – Galchenyuk
    Prust – White – Weisse
    Moen, Bournival extra

    Subban – Markov
    Gorges – Emelin
    Beaulieu – Tinordi
    Weaver extra

    Price / Budaj

That looks pretty good to me. Then the year after with Bourque/Briere gone, Tinordi/Beaulieu with more experience under their belt, we move from very good to potential contenders.
