    Ya Baybee, go short!
I was reading one of the plethora of leaf articles on the Toronto sports network and apparently lots of leaf players are happy. They love the team the city and everything .... Go figure.

    1. This is what I 'posted' but it'll problem never get through.
Ya know, if a certain toronto based media didn't have 20 stories and videos on a certain toronto based team, they would be able to give due respect to actual playoff teams with a separate thread of own for their respective fans without bundling them together.

Wow, you weren't kidding. R.I.P. Mr. Flaherty, 64 is too young to pass away nowadays. He did one of the toughest jobs in the country and did it well. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

    4. Huh, I didn't know he was born in Lachine (right next store) and he played hockey.

He attended Princeton University on a hockey scholarship after being noticed by a scout at an invitational tournament at McGill University. It was at Princeton he heard Robert Kennedy speak about the call of public service.

  12. Avalanche reporter on Twitter last night: "That's why Montreal has zero shot in the playoffs. Can't close games. OT in playoffs will take away their loser points"

Erm, WTF?! Did he even bother to watch the whole game? I thought the Habs matched Chicago great considering no Markov/Price. I'm aware they're not a powerhouse but let's not forget they're sitting at 2nd in the East and 12-2-1 in their last 15. That shit really irked me and I thought "hey, I know just the place to rant!".

That being said, I agree it's time for the Harper government to move on. We'll have to agree to disagree Steve. Condolences to his family.

  74. I only caught parts here and there, but from what I saw, that was one of the worst performances I've witnessed from a professional hockey team in a very long time. My jaw was dropped that whole 10 minutes (was it 10 mins? It sure felt like it) that the Isles played keep away in the Habs zone before their PP at the end of the 2nd. At one point in the 3rd I saw Plecks and two other guys just standing at the bench like it was a TO while play was going on. It was sad.

This is what freaks me out about this team. They are totally Jeckyl/Hyde. For the last couple of weeks I thought, "Ok, looks like they're in good position to get home ice and they'll be tough in the 1st round at least!" then I'm reminded tonight that sometimes, they just don't show up. And not just a game here and there, but weeks at a time. I'm now scared that they'll be embarrassed (again) in the 1st round, and they'll start it all in Florida.

Now they have to depend on Tampa to lose a game in order to get home ice. But that's the least of our worries after what I saw tonight. It was just....sad. I feel like a leaf fan.

    Not to panic or anything.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Good news: Philthy lost so they're still tied with CLB and DET. Which means there's a good chance of them meeting either the Pens or broons in the first round which would be excellent. GO BJs GO tomorrow!

And the broons lost, which is always nice.

    ReplyDelete
  77. A couple of things here...firstly - WTF! Way to back into the playoffs - AGAIN! From what I saw the Habs were nowhere near ready to play. Team motto has been "No Excuses" - well there was no excuse for that load of shit! Not a way to say thanks to the fans either! They do have a chance to make amends with a win against the Rangers on Saturday night but I am not overly optimistic at this point...I echo Saint Paddy from 10:41 pm

And now I am reading about Shannahan joining the leaf on the NHL website, which actually makes it a bit more beliveable given that he works for the NHL. The story is still coming from a leaf reporter but I am beginning to wonder if it could happen. They must be throwing a shitload of money at him...

    ReplyDelete
  78. the Maritimer7:19 AM

OK, here's what my old eyes saw last night. A Habs team that played a very fast paced game the night before, got in late (or early) the previous morning and had no legs last night. They faced a bunch of rested, very young players with nothing to lose wanting to impress their coach. A bad recipe indeed. I expect better against the Rangers. If they don't show up tomorrow night I will hit the panic button and write them off as first round losers. Which I kind of expect anyway.

  80. WTF is going on with NB and PFK. are eMTy and DGMB offended by offensive defencemen?

Sigmund Freud would have had a field day with the Michel Therrien-P.K Subban relationship.

Maybe the fact that the coach is harder on his star defenseman than he is on other players is based on the similarities between the two, and motivated by Therrien’s unconscious identification with his star player. If so, then his punishing of Subban is really about his own dynamics.

That is, perhaps what Therrien doesn’t like about P.K. is the fact that he is an entertainer, that he pleases the fans, and isn’t just a normal hockey player.

Because Therrien doesn’t like the fact that that he was hired not primarily for his hockey-related knowledge, but because of his language abilities, to please the fans.

So, similar to the bully, he “projects” his issue on P.K., punishing Subban for what he perceives to be his own shortcoming.

The effect of the punishment (restricting P.K.’s entertaining style, as well as limiting his ice time) then shows the fans that he doesn’t care about pleasing them, to counter that this was the reason he was really hired in the first place.

Therrien should see a psychoanalyst — so he can better understand his own dynamics, and so that he does not have to punish others for issues he needs to work through himself.
