  48. Not to go on about it, but I just rewatched the last 3 minutes (about 6 times) and while they're shaking hands CBC says, "If Bishop plays the first game, Tampa would have won. If the goalie change comes after the 2nd goal tonight, they would have won. Then you have a completely different series." This was among the complaining about how Tampa didn't catch any 'breaks'. This is really starting to annoy me.

But whatever, they can spend the next week cheering on their broons. If the Habs do meet them in the next round the hate will get even stronger.

    ReplyDelete
  49. TSN says Habs #1 in post-expansion era teams in best of 7 series sweeps. The other guy pipes in, "Yeah but they've been around longer than the other teams!" Post-expansion you fucknut. In any event, the top 4 are all original 6. Anything to slander our Habs.

Orangeman, it's best to just laugh at them all. We, as Habs fans, have to accept the fact that the Toronto based media will in no way, shape or form offer any praise for Montreal's success. The mediots will try to deflect any credit from what Montreal did and find ANY excuse for why the opposition lost. I picked up on the those comments by Hughson saying that Tampa WOULD HAVE WON with no uncertainty if Bishop had started or Cooper had pulled Lindback earlier. How he knows this I have no idea, unless the fix is in. It's funny how they can ignore the fact that Montreal outscored Tampa almost at will, dominated them in their own end and allowed very little extended time in the defensive zone. Other than that 3 minute stretch last night when the Habs stopped skating, I never found Tampa to be much of a threat. Montreal rolled 4 lines consistently while Jon Cooper basically only had 3 lines to work with. They were out manned and out gunned. Other than Stamkos and Palat they had nuthin'.

BTW, why wasn't Stamkos given an extra 2 minutes for roughing for punching (Y) in the face and a 10 minute misconduct for screaming and punching the penalty box door? PK would have been tossed for that.

Let's all just enjoy this moment, smile and wave at all the Toronto (ML$E) controlled media and laugh their frustrations about Montreal winning.

His defenders maintain that just for appearances there should not be a Quebecois Canadian referring Canadians games. Well just for appearances the Boston Bruins should not be in the NHL. Just for appearances Buttman should be cleaning toilets in Harpo's jail cell. Just for appearances no National Broadcaster who is an employee of the Canadian people should be forgiven for such a lizard brained thought.

  68. Letter to the Gazette from Calgary:

"Ron MacLean’s comments regarding the inappropriate use of French referees in the Montreal Canadiens vs. Tampa Bay game was insulting to all Canadians who respect diversity and who live in a country that claims this as a value.

To think our so-called national broadcaster allows such divisive rhetoric is deplorable and just reinforces the fact that the CBC should have its funding cut (even though I do not support the political reasons the government uses to justify its cuts).

The CBC should be ashamed of itself! I know my family and I are.

I would love to have someone from CBC provide an explanation to my 6-year-old son, who asked “why is Mr. MacLean saying they should not have French referees?”

Finally, to recap a lovely conversation I had with an 86-year-old gentleman at the Banff hot springs Monday afternoon, on the fact that the Montreal-Tampa Bay coverage seemed to be biased against our only Canadian team in playoffs, I quote him saying “I wish our national broadcaster would recognize that there are Habs fans all over this country, and we speak English and French and come from and reside in all parts of this country.”

Once again, shame on the CBC. Hopefully Rogers will provide a more balanced coverage and keep divisive ignorant behaviour to a minimum.

A soon to be RDS customer ..."

The Habs dominated the series from start to gunk hand thoroughly deserved the sweep. The cals or non calks happen all the time to every team. Shut up about them. Bishop would not have made a difference. Stamkos was shut down and the Habs got production and all out efforts from all 4 lines. TFS played lights out (except game 1) and PFK stepped up. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/ron-maclean-won-t-be-reprimanded-over-quebec-refs-comment-1.2618801

"Ron apologized and clarified his remarks later in the broadcast, saying it would be no different if you assigned a ref from Alberta for a game involving Calgary or Edmonton playing another NHL team."

Still, Gilles Duceppe, former leader of the Bloc Québécois, called MacLean's comments "racist" and said the longtime HNIC commentator should be disciplined.

"He was not talking about a local referee; he was talking about a French referee, which is quite different and just unacceptable, and I think CBC should take measures to discipline MacLean," Duceppe told Bernard St-Laurent, host of CBC Montreal's Radio Noon program.

  73. Except his apology wasn't an apology at all. It was one of those "I'm sorry if I offended you" ones, but worded differently. Friedman and even Stock (ugh) gave him a few opportunities to back out but he kept going. When Freidman asked, "So Quebec refs can't work any games in Quebec?" MacLean could have said something about hometown refs in general at that point, but he doubled down and said yes.

Anyway, for a guy who's so worried about the way things look in the league it's odd that he's never mentioned the fact that the father of an active player is a powerful NHL executive who has sent out memos reprimanding refs for making calls against his son's team.

The CBC has spent the last 24 hours trying to discredit the Habs, Quebec and French Canadians. It's sick.

I have a 6 day weekend next weekend (May 1-Labour Day. May 2-Random school holiday. May 5-Children's Day (yes they have that here and it's a national holiday! Though it might be more somber this year). May 6-Buddha's birthday. It would be nice if at least 2 games fell on this extended break.

G7 of BOS-DET goes on April 30 (Wed), so I figure the next round would start May 3 (Sat) at the latest?

Does anyone know if they can start the 2nd round while the first round is still going on? I know they did in past years, but we always had to wait to see who won every series because they re-seeded each round. For example, if the bruins win in 5 (touch wood, or not...I forget how this works), could the BOS-MTL series start if the other series go to G7? Or do we have to wait for every series, East and West to end. I figure it would messy if they didn't wait, but just wondering. I don't remember how it was before the 8 seed system. 3 goals: Max Pacioretty (1) -- David Desharnais (1) -- Thomas Vanek (1)
    5 goals: Brandon Prust (0) -- Tomas Plekanec (2) -- Brendan Gallagher (3)
    6 goals: Rene Bourque (3) -- Lars Eller (2) -- Brian Gionta (1)
    2 goals: Michael Bournival (0) -- Daniel Briere (1) -- Dale Weise (1)

All forwards have points, only two don't have goals (a grinder returning from injury and a 4th line rookie). All in 4 games. Hopefully this will carry on. Touch wood! Or not...Again, the expression puzzles me.
