  5. If history is harbinger eMTy will be gone by summer as well. From Brian Wilde. Coaches are a dime a dozen but players like PFK are gold.

Here's what the future holds... the coach will be fired. It's like death and taxes. It's unavoidable. I will be at a news conference in the not too distant future reporting on the firing of Michel Therrien. We know this to be true. Hell, even Lindy Ruff got fired. Unless you think Michel Therrien is Barry Trotz. What the future holds is not will Therrien be fired. Of course, he will, but where will PK Subban be. If it were me, I'd be forcing this. Subban owes nothing to Michel Therrien, just like Roy went out and got his freedom. Roy was under contract too, so don't make the argument that Subban is an RFA and can't do anything. He can force the issue now or he can force the issue later, but at some point, if he wants, he can force this issue. He could force this issue today if he were boiling inside right now or maybe one more moment next week or next year will break his spirit.
Google "asks for a trade". You'll be on page 200 of a google search before you run out of players. No one saw Roy coming. No one saw it coming about that player who asked for a trade on page 198 of your google search either. No one ever sees it coming.
Subban is a great man who swallows his ego everyday while playing outstanding if inferior hockey to last year as he has his instincts coached out of him. Off the glass PK. You're a running back PK and we want you to be a quarterback. Don't carry it up. Dump it out. Dump it in. Make the easy play PK. Too fancy PK. Just dump it PK.
Subban is a man of great character who bites the bullet over and over because he always puts the team first. Montreal is so blessed to have this amazing human being in their company. A man of enormous talent who humbles himself everyday.
Subban wears the number 76. The way he's treated by this head coach and by extension the Habs management team, he might as well be wearing 42.

  6. NHL's 3 stars of the week: Hall, Varlamov,
THIRD STAR – MAX PACIORETTY, LW, MONTREAL CANADIENS

Pacioretty tied for the League lead with four goals and also contributed two assists to help the Canadiens (45-27-7, 97 points) move four points ahead of the Tampa Bay Lightning (42-27-9, 93 points) for the No. 2 seed in the Atlantic Division. After being held off the scoresheet in a 3-1 loss to the Lightning April 1, Pacioretty recorded a career-high 3-2—5, including his third hat trick and League-leading 11th game-winning goal of the season, in a 7-4 victory over the Ottawa Senators April 4. He then added his team-leading 39th goal of the season, tied for third in the NHL, in a 5-3 triumph over the Detroit Red Wings April 5. The 25-year-old native of New Canaan, Conn., leads the Canadiens with 60 points in 70 games, five off his career high set in 2011-12, and also is the first Montreal player to post three hat tricks in one season since Pierre Larouche in 1980-81.

  7. Georges likely back on Thursday and possible Weiss.
The absence of Gorges created a gaping hole in Montreal's top-four on defense to the left of P.K. Subban. It has been filled by Francis Bouillon, Douglas Murray and Jarred Tinordi over the span Gorges was out, with varying degrees of success for each.

The ideal partner for Subban is someone that can be reliable defensively and who can also play the minutes, both in terms of volume and difficulty, that Subban does.

Aside from Gorges and top-pair defenseman Andrei Markov, the Canadiens don't really have a player like that.

The return of Gorges and the solid play of new acquisition Mike Weaver on the right side of the third pairing means that in all likelihood only one of Murray, Bouillon or Tinordi will get to play, with Murray definitely sitting out Wednesday as he serves the final game of his three-game suspension for an illegal check to the head of Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Michael Kostka.

Forward Dale Weise also took part in his first practice with his teammates since sustaining an upper body injury in a game against the Boston Bruins on March 24 when he fell hard into the boards after a check by Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller. Weise has missed the past six games and said after practice that if he feels good Tuesday, he could be in the lineup Wednesday.

"It felt good today," Weise said. "Obviously I need to go through the process and see how I feel [Tuesday]. But all signs point to being 100 percent, and I felt good today."

Weise was part of what looked to be a promising fourth line for the Canadiens, but all three members of the line were injured in a span of a week.

Three days prior to Weise's injury the Canadiens announced Brandon Prust would be lost for the rest of the regular season with an upper-body injury believed to be his ribs, one he aggravated in a game March 18 against the Colorado Avalanche. After Weise took the hit from Miller, his linemate Travis Moen challenged Miller to a fight and sustained a concussion.

Prust's status will be re-evaluated prior to the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs and Moen has not resumed skating since his injury.

BROSSARD – The Habs, within striking distance of the 100-point mark for the first time in six years, welcomed two of its wounded warriors back into the fold at practice.

The Canadiens currently hold 97 points with three games left in the 2013-14 calendar. The last edition of the team to do better was the 2007-08 version, which put up 104 points en route to a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference standings. Holdovers from that year’s squad include All-Star goaltender Carey Price, two-way pivot Tomas Plekanec, and Josh Gorges, a key member of the defense corp who had been out for the past month due to a hand injury suffered while blocking a shot against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

  9. Well Done Quebec! Je me souviens! Wilde echos a lot of what I have been feeling for a long time now. PFK has made some bad calls that have cost the Habs goals and even points...but he brings it every night and you can only be beaten down for so long until something has to give. I continue to hope against hope that PFK gets beyond the stance that he took during his first hold out - this is more than business. This is the future of the Montreal Canadiens. Mes Canadiens inclus PFK! DGMB needs to (IMHO) look at 6 years for PFK - circa $40m...J'espere...

Steve, perhaps I've been looking at the Viking here in HFX through rose coloured glasses. Ranked 13 in CSS for NA skaters. So he might drop to 15-20 range, still too far out. I expect the Habs to be drafting 29th.

PFK for Shea Weber. Nashville owes Weber $10mil on July 1, that's a tough pill for them to swallow, courtesy of Ed Snider and Paul Holmgren. If MB wants to keep PK, eMpTy has to go, they are like oil and water....

      Delete
    5. Is Shea Weber worth a $13 mill cap hit? I say nobody is in todays game. The difference between the worst player on the ice and the best has never been smaller. I say you go no bigger than 7% of cap on any one player. That means your top five are only 35% of your cap.

      Delete
    6. I would swing Maritmers trade, plus they throw in their first round pick swap(10 for 27), (its already a whore move, so they cant argue with the price) . We send Weber to Buffalo for Rustalian and their first round pick and we take Aaron Ekbald. You can see why I am not a NHL GM, it would not be fair to the league.

  12. Hearing that TFS, (Y) and Vodkov will not play in Chicago,eMpTy is making them stay home to rest. Wonder what Geoff thinks if his coach ends up squandering away home ice advantage vs Tampa. Or is it better for the playoff run?

    1. Now that Montreal has clinched a spot they should be bringing up some rookies and plug them in. If we can platoon two rookies TinTin and NB through the playoffs we have peaked in Hybrid Range Rover Autobiography level luxury. Having your 3rd pair fresh every night turns hamburger into a cheap steak. A plug in hybrid defence. Therefore building this craft should be MB's number one payoff activity moving forward. Home ice advantage should not be rejected outright. However combining the synergy of a higher draft pick and a hybrid defence is a winner.

    1. You could be right and you could be wrong. PFK is a round rusher trapped in an egotistical square peg dump and chase.

      Delete
    2. Didn't catch Melnick and I'm all for accountability, but you have to hold others to the same standard of accountability, .39 secs of ice time in the 1st period when he was not the only guy out there, the game where he benched him for over 8mins, maybe more I can't remember, and refusing to pull the goalie, and a lot of other stuff. Therrien's 'accountability' regarding PFK borders on overkill, makes it glaringly obvious that it just can't be only hockey related, IMO.

    4. Jacques Martin scratched him, Cunnyworth had issues with him, Babcock didn't play him. If he wants to get from being a good/great player to superstar status he will and should be held to a higher standard than his teammates. It didn't hurt Price losing his job to Halak and all the booing he endured. It's made him better.

At the end of the day we just don't agree in this one.

    5. Moey the establishment does not like PK. Can I be a bit racist and paranoid to make a point. Hockey is the white refuge of pro sports. PK is the breakthrough player that will put all the old ladies in curlers out of sorts. A black bobby orr does not play in the southern strategy of the USA.

Fact and you need no spellcheck. Every time he wants to PFK can carry the puck over the bluelie. Fact and you need to see this on video, 100 percent of the time he has no one to pass the puck too in this zone. Is that not in some regared as puzzling as Roswell, JFK and 911?

      Delete
    6. Chester4:15 PM

Babcock didn't play him because he had better defenseman. PFK spins and skates in circles, he holds peoples sticks he falls down he continually yells for the puck. He takes bad penalties he lines guys up for the Smith kill shot and then won't duke when required. On the other hand he makes some good passes, gets some assists and scores some goals. But he is not a Norris d-man. He is and always will be His Flashyness who also plays some D. Wouldn't bother me at all to see him traded. DGMB appears to be a good trader guy and I'll bet he could get some shiny things for His Flashyness.

PFK has elite skills, he hasn't learned when to pick his spots. Big Bird and Pointu made forays up the ice to the horror of Bowman but they knew their limits.

I doubt PK gets traded but as I said yesterday, he's not getting elite money yet. If he and Meehan hold out, he may find himself in some hockey hinterland and MB will get a fortune in return. I think.
