DIE RAGS DIE!!!1!1!!1!!! Errrrr, uhh, hmmm, 29 actually kinda likes the Rangers - Game 1 preview and open thread

Look, they come in delicious cake form! What's not to love?

Oooh boy, that Bs series was fun, eh? So much hate. Can you imagine if the Phucktards or Cindy came out of whatever the hell they call that division now? More hate! But, um, we've got the Rangers. The best I could do would be ambivalence. But I can't even muster that. These Rangers are great! They came back from 3-1 down and beat the Pens! Friggin' awesome! They play a good clean brand of hockey. Great goaltending. Solid D. Some skilled forwards. Boy this is sounding familiar. Maybe if we dig through the lineup we can find some hate...

Solid Forward who was always iffy but is making the best of his chances - Benoit Pouliot! Good 'ol CHicken. Do you remember the Giant Mexican CHicken? Good times! I always liked that guy. Well, when he showed up. Hmmm.

Skilled forward - Martin St. Louis! Bon p'tit gars de Laval. Who has ever said a bad word about him except for Stevie Y? What's that? Dealing with personal tragedy now turning the Rangers into a feelgood story? Oy. /sniff. Our deepest sympathies Marty. Let's move on.

Gritty forward - Dominic Moore! I'll always remember the cup of coffee he had with the Habs. I seem to recall he had a decent playoff run once. We all loved him. Don't deny it. What? He lost his wife to a rare liver cancer just last year? /starts bawling.

Young stud star defenseman - Ryan McDonagh! I wonder who drafted him. Huh? Maybe we got a superstar goal-scoring machine in return in that trade? Who? Oh goodness. Well that leaves some lingering bitterness I guess. But I'm happy to see Ryan has found success. Wait, what?

Goalie - well he's Swedish, so Don Cherry must hate him. Uhhh. Maybe he's a horribly ugly scars all over his face evil looking goalie type? Hellooooooo. NTTAWWT.

Holy Fuck. This is not working. Maybe the Rangers are talking some trash about the Habs and Montreal and we can grasp onto that for hating purposes:

"I look forward to going there. It's a conference final in Montreal. That's special." - Lundqvist

"I'm not gonna lie, it's the best place to play. I can't imagine any sporting event this amazing. ... It's gonna be so fun" - Richards

"We respect Montreal quite a bit. They're not only a very strong team, but they're a team that has beaten the No. 1 team in the NHL right now. So we know we have our hands full." - Vigneault

Well I give up. I look forward to a delightful series.

I have to post this again since 29 is reminiscing this morning.

    Remember the Kostitsyn brothers?

"Speaking of Belarus, how are the Kostitsyn brothers and Mikhail Grabovski doing? We’re glad you asked. The hosts are 2-2 and fighting for a playoff spot in their group at the world championship. Sergei Kostitsyn is Belarus’s leading scorer with three goals and two assists, while Grabovski has a goal and three assists. Andrei Kostitsyn hasn’t done as well. He was a healthy scratch for one game and has no points in three games."

  7. Haha, nicely done moe. I wrote something similar to a friend last night. He's an Islander fan (yeah, yeah, he knows...) and asked me how I was going to move from the hate filled Boston series to this one. I wrote:

New York is such a piece of cra....No, no. I love New York.

Their players are such talentless thu....No, no. Nash is in a drought but he's a gold medal winner, Moore has rebounded from personal tragedy to play some of his best hockey and St. Louis is the height of class.

They just cheap shots and dirt...No, no. They are a speedy skilled team like the Habs who stick to hockey.

Their coach is such a cry ba....No, no. Vigneault is a quiet gentleman who has done great things with his squad.

Their fans are such racist blowhar....No, no. New York is a world class city and their fans reflect the American melting pot.

Their goalie is an ugly flop....No, no. Lundqvist has been one of the best goalies in the world for almost a decade. Plus he's dreamy.

Welp, I dunno. Is it too late for them to trade for Lucic?

    1. Yeah, I watched it. Kind of bittersweet. Teemu is such a class act. 76 goals in his rookie year. Unbelievable. You realize Teemu has been in the league longer than the team he was playing for was? Crazy.

    2. I just read Teemu's wiki and apparently he spent 3 years as a kindergarten teacher. What? I can now say Teemu Selanne and I have something in common. One single thing.

  10. Went out and splurged on Chinatown Chinese food today. Have to travel across town to get it and it ain't cheap. Had to take a cab home through traffic. All excited when I got home, I open up my boxes to find they got my order completely wrong. Instead of my Shanghai noodles that was the catalyst for the trip to begin with I got some shrimp concoction which is terrible because shrimp make me swell up and die. My Kung Pao beef is now beef and broccoli which is acceptable though not ideal (broccoli doesn't make me die, but it sure makes me want to).

Then my internet goes out so I decide it's a good time to take my pre-game nap. Wake up with a sore neck stuck in downward position. Not a great start to game day, but after the wonderfulness that was my last Thursday I'm rolling with the punches. I also picked up vodka which helps.

    GO HABS GO!

  18. Listening to Marc's presser. Very light hearted, lots of laughter. Listening to the pre-pre game show, they said something right. Something to the effect that the fans haven't been able to shower this team with love for beating the bruins yet, so the Bell Centre is going to be crazy. From the background noise at the fan jam, I can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Something I just learned from this presser: In Mario Lemieux's presser after firing the GM and coach there, he mentioned the Habs under MB as a team that he wants his team to emulate in the future. Nice.

  30. Also, reading the NY press tonight (it's 2am, what else am I going to do?)* and they've dubbed the Rangers nice words for the Habs as the "Campaign of Kindness". They rightly say the Habs used the bruin's disrespect for them as motivation and the Rangers are going out of their way to not do that. They also recognize it's going the other way around. I just find it funny.
