Picked up the phone and called the Habs front office looking for Bob Gainey, figuring it was a lock to send Richards and a no-name minor leaguer to Montreal for Tinordi, Eller and change in return. He was shocked and confused when DGMB answered the phone and told Slats to hang up an dial #7263.

I doubt PFK would ever sign with the Philthys. They already tried that shit with Shea Weber and Paul Holmgren isn't the GM anymore. Comcast has to be running out of money anyway. That same article in the Star mentioned Philthy might even buy out Vinnie. Holy fuck, what an insult if he got bought out two years in a row.

    1. the Maritimer2:45 PM

The Habs are going to miss him a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if they take a step back next season as I personally believe Gallant was more responsible for this past season's success than eMpTy. MB will ultimately regret that four year extension. The good news is, Torterella got a 5 year deal and was fired after one. So there is hope.

    3. RDS was already having a field day when he was considered for Florida and said this was MT's chance to get a francophone to replace him and didn't even say what a HUGE loss it would be if he left. Agree with the M, Gallant had muCH to do with the success last season.

On that note, Bonne fete St Jean Baptiste day weekend, all. A holiday's is always a good thing, yet in this case, I think you have to take it on the day it falls..

    4. MONTREAL -- Marc Bergevin's statement following the announcement of Gerard Gallant as the head coach of the Florida Panthers.

“Obviously we are disappointed to see an individual like Gerard Gallant leave our organisation, but on behalf of the management team and the entire coaching staff I would like to wish Gerard the best of luck as the new head coach of the Florida Panthers. Over the past two years, Gerard has been a valuable asset for us and contributed to the success of our team”, said general manager Marc Bergevin.

      Delete
    5. Actually, I was thinking (hoping) that DGMB would do pretty muCH the same as he did with Dudley, give him permission to talk and then tell he could have what he wants to stay.

  12. FFS, can't they come up with some damn other team to open with other than the leaf?

For the sixth consecutive season the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens will battle on the opening night of the NHL season.

The entire schedule has yet to be announced, but the league released the dates for all 30 home openers Saturday and confirmed games will kick off the 2014-15 season on Wednesday, October 8.

The Leafs open the season on Oct. 8 at the Air Canada Centre against the Canadiens, while across the country the Calgary Flames host the Vancouver Canucks at the ScotiaBank Saddledome.

  15. I have just read of the Gallant signing. I know nothing about the GOT aspects of coaching in the NHL. But I expect it is the assistant coaches that had to handle the mortars the eMTey fired daily. I believe that coaches in every pro sport treat the players like slabs of meat. Its old school and maybe there is a better way. However the LA cups confirm players hare just meat sacks.

    3. the Maritimer12:56 PM

I was actually thinking Gallant might try to get some of his former Memorial Cup winning Sea Dogs to go along with Huberdeau. Beaulieu, Jurco, and Galiev are all out there to be had for the right price. The Habs will take the No. 1 pick for N8. Ekblad with PK would be awesome for years to come.

      Delete
    4. I have been reading that as well Gallant loves NB. I have read Ekbad is not a slam dunk, especailly on the score sheet. For sure he does not have NB wheels and few do.

      Delete
    5. the trade of NB for EKblad does make some organizational sense. We are overstocked on defense, someone has to go. On most teams EKbald is going to play but we could hold him back a year, give him some AHL time and then plug him in for the cup win.

He has become one of the faces of the NHL and one of the most popular players in Montreal. There were times during the regular season when Subban seemed to be a victim of coach Michel Therrien’s tough-love approach, but the 25-year-old defenceman was one of the keys to the team’s playoff success. Subban’s agent, Don Meehan, told Postmedia’s Dave Stubbs that he would be meeting with Bergevin at the draft this weekend to set the stage for moving contract talks to the next level.

I say lets get rid of D men who are heroes because they are warriors at trapping the other team in our
own end. Chocula was always about that perfect defensive shell. The game today is not to play in your own zone. The Rags beat us with this. The big crease clearing D man is a dinosaour and I predict that DGMB will trade Tinorti to the leaf because they are still in the dark.
