    2. I don't follow this logic.

"Either way, they come out ahead because they either (a) get the player; or (b) put a division rival at a significant competitive disadvantage by forcing them to match the offer."

So, if the leaf force the Habs to match a $12 million doller per year offer, it's putting the Habs at a significant competetive disadvantage (presumably because it's eating 12 million of their cap). But if the Habs say "Go ahead and take him at 12 million per year, the leafs are still better off because they now have PK, even though at that same 12 million dollar cap hit. This makes no sense. If forcing a team to spend that money is an advantage to you, then it is equally disadvantageous if you end up the one spending that dough.

Anyway, not gonna happen. Just give him 8.5 million for 8 years and get it over with FFS!

Another mediot made up fantasy. The fucking leaf don't have anywhere near the cap space and it would cost them four 1st round picks. Even DN isn't that dumb. Besides, if Josh Gorges wanted nothing to do with Tranna I highly doubt PFK would either. They saw how bad Komo flamed out there.

    5. so I guess I been told. My case is the leaf are fucked, now and for at least five years. PFK could on that team given free reign rule. The point is the leaf have nothing to lose by signing PFK for 12 million,.

    6. the Maritimer5:14 PM

Not dissing you Steve, it's a possibility that the leaf could try to poach PFK, like Holmgren tried to do with Shea Weber, but I just can't see tying up that kind of cap space for a defenceman when they already have Princess Pylon's contract as a boat anchor around their collective necks.

If Loo-wicky is going to poach anybody, it will be local super/rock star Steve Stamkos next year. He'd be worth $12mil a year.

      Delete
    7. The M., as much as Loopedwicky thinks that I can't see it happening as Shanny likes to be liked by others and insidredger's cousin isn't that sharp of a tool.

  10. there is a reasonably existential question out there about winning in the NHL. Do you need a goon? I think the trend is no. But you do need tough guys, more tough guys than Smurfs. So Smurfs need protection? I do not think so. DDD was a warrior and no one blackjacked him. Now during the regular season boys may be boys, but if you can get past those games into the playoffs, a goon is not a good asset.

The report states that the Gretzky group is one of three trying to get a team to the American Pacific Northwest, though it is not known if the method would be to buy an existing franchise or an expansion team.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman visited Seattle in May, meeting with mayor Ed Murray. An NHL spokesman confirmed the meeting back in May and said the commissioner was there getting an update on the status of a new arena being proposed by investor Chris Hansen."

Kind of a back-handed compliment, but nice to see somebody from the Boston media giving props to PFK.

If MB doesn't work out a deal soon and this negotiation drags on too long, an offer sheet from someone wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Still, I can't see PK getting more money than Weber, Doughty, Pietrangelo and the like, all guys who played ahead of him on Team Canada. I think that's what MB is using to make his case.

      Delete
    2. I guess we'll know if it goes to arbitration shortly after 5:00, I doubt it it will, I think the arbitrators will give him a huge payout. Regarding Weber et al playing ahead of him in Team Canada, I think it's safe to say his time will come for that which Meehan could argue also.

  21. P.K. Subban and James Reimer lead the list of players potentially heading to salary arbitration hearings.

20 players in total have elected salary arbitration before the deadline of 5pm et on Saturday.

Along with Subban, centre Lars Eller also elected arbitration with the Montreal Canadiens while defenceman Cody Franson could also be heading to arbitration with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Calgary Flames centre Joe Colborne and Ottawa Senators centre Derek Grant are also on the list of 20 players.

Players who elect salary arbitration can still sign deals ahead of their hearings, which will be held from July 20 to August 4.

    4. Subban is expected to sign a longterm contract worth upwards of $7 million a season. He earned $3.75 million last in in the final year of a two-year bridge contract. He won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's top defenceman in 2013 and was the team's best defenceman as Montreal advanced to the Eastern Conference final. He led the team with 14 points and averaged 27:26 a game.

Eller stepped up in the playoffs and was the leading scorer among Montreal forwards with five goals and 13 points and he was a minus-6. He earned $1.5 million in each of the past two seasons.

Some people say the shows dervieved form that spatial unicorn of comedy are metaphysically in the same universe. What is self evident is that comedy is mostly cruel and generated from a kernel of absolute truth. I will give you an example of this. The Germans have invented the ultimate microwave oven, it seats six. I will say nobody loves Germany more than me for great reasons, but that is funny. In a similar vein, Joan Rivers called Michele Obama the first Transgender. I think for her age Michele Obama is very very attractive, we could all be so lucky. However, due to her fitness she also looks like she could start on the defensive line of the Chicago Bears.

I think Montreal has finally turned a corner and will eventually ascend into the ranks of the elite in the next few years under the stewardship of Marc Bergevin, a breath of fresh air in comparison to the micromanaging, control freak Goat. It's taken nearly 20 years to recover from the Patrick Roy trade debacle. I hope I never have to live through another stretch like that.
