  1. Awesome SF moeman. Gene Kelly vs Fred Astaire, I would always get into a discussion who was the king of the dancers. I'm actually not that old but did see a lot of those movies not having Cable at home growing up you had 2 channels to choose from.

  2. I don't quite understand why Lego's cap hit is 3.5 per year when his contract is actually 2.5, 2.5, 4.25 and 4.75.

    ReplyDelete

    1. It's the average over the term of the contract.

      14/4 = 3.5

      Delete
    2. I realize it's the average, but I don't understand that it counts as a 3.5 cap per year, why would the contract be broken down as 2.5, etc? Why is it like that then, how does that part have any benefit for the Habs if the average becomes the cap hit?

  3. Fantastic SF moe!

Happy with Larry's deal. About 0.5 too much, but hey it could always be worse (see Clarkson, David).

I was quite shocked to see ScarJo is playing the title role in Lucic's life story. Haven't seen a trailer yet. Not sure she'll make a good hunchback, but what do I know. Her front end may help her out.

    C'mon October!

  4. Great SF as always Moeman - Who is in the pic above the Sergio Mendez clip? Based on history the PFK deal should be announced middle of the day Tuesday next week. I'm also with Juce on the Average being the Cap hit - makes no sense to me - there is a big difference between paying someone 2.5m for two years then 4.25...or whatever it is - for the next two - it isn't "virtual money" that they play with for the cap is it? Anyways, never mind - it's done and DGMB has plenty to spare for PFK - so GET 'ER DONE!

    2. QUEBEC -- It's not quite signing the Constitution, but Quebec is joining the rest of the country in an area many people will find just as important.
For the first time, Quebecers will now be legally allowed to bring back alcohol from the rest of Canada for their personal consumption.
Finance Minister Carlos Leitao said Thursday that Quebec was the last province that prohibited residents from returning home with booze after a visit to the rest of Canada.
The maximum to be allowed will be nine litres of wine (the equivalent of 12 regular bottles), three litres of spirits and 72 bottles of beer.
Leitao and Public Security Minister Lise Theriault said in a statement those quantities are the same that are permitted in Ontario.
Quebecers are already allowed to bring home booze after trips to the United States or abroad.

But if you don't think every time I went to visit my sister in Ottawa for the last 15 years I didn't go to the awesome LCBO at Bank and Walkeley and get all the wine that's $2 cheaper and all the rye whiskeys I can't get in Quebec... well, uh, don't tell the Quebec Barreau

  7. I can only think by paying a player less now and having it heavy loaded at the end must somehow save the owner money. The interest savings alone perhaps? Plus I've read elsewhere a player's actual value once he reaches his potential UFA time (in 2 years in this case) increases. I don't friggin' know obviously is the answer.

On another topic, for some reason I got to looking at the 1999 draft. That has to be the worst draft year in the last 40 years. As an entire draft I mean. Not to mention the Habs picks were atrocious. Their first pick (2nd round, #58) never siged or played a game with the Habs, but was the best of their draft picks that year, playing 237 games to date, racking up an impressive 27 points, but more importantly 556 penalty minutes. I had no idea Matt Carkner was drafted by the Habs.

From that draft year, there are only 26 players with 100 points or more, 13 with 200 points or more.
3 of the top 6 point getters from the draft were taken in round 7, with Hank Z leading the way. What a steal! Martin Erat and Radim Vrbata were the other 2.
The Habs drafted 10 other players - not one game played in the NHL. Even though the entire draft year was a disaster, I think we can label that a bust of epic proportions for the Habs. As far as potential busts go, the Habs took G Evan Lindsay at 107, then LW Dusty Jamieson at 136. G Ryan Miller went at #138. If memory serves correct, the Habs goalie situation in 98/99/00 wasn't exactly stellar, but I suppose Theo was the native son and saviour at the time.

    There ends today's history lesson.

  9. You think your favorite player is not juiced. Think again. Physical gains and mental gains. Two paths to increased performance. Hockey has been fortunate in that steroid monsters do not gravitate to this sport. Of course Buttman is working hard to change that. However a touch of juice might turn a lemon into an orange. I allege the NHL is full of juicers. Hockey is not about contact. Contact is a possibility that filled the well informed mind. You take a risk and if you fail the body-check will reside for a long time in you physical memory. Hockey like every sport when you have reached the physicist barrier is all mental. Can you slow down time, can you think under pressure, these are the skills that make
    hockey players players.

    2. KmaXXX if you have dedicated your life to hockey since age six, if there was an edge would your parents prescribe it for you. Human behavior 101. All the fucking parents who are living their lives viciously threw their children just stop. I am a History Major and it has given me a life. Now a degree in Engineering or Pharmacology would have a been a better choice. But I had no aptitude for math. For our children the problem is that computers know math and they only need a clean power supply to perform.

      Delete
    3. As parents it is our responsibility to stop the cycle. My kids are very talented and to an extent I live vicariously through them...but I draw the line at pushing them over the edge. They are what they are and they will do as well as they do because they want to and because they have the talent. If they become rock stars it will be because they are awesome in their own right and it won't be an enhanced performance caused by added pressure from myself. If we all did that with our kids things would be different in their world

      Delete
    4. any parent who does not live vicariously through their children is a victim of a historical paradox. The Great men theory et all. If you Dad is Steve Jobs, Paul Mcartney or others of course you are not living through your children. no the worst case for those kids. If you are joe six pack sitting back in the back yard with the pool and two escorts in the Garage, you can only hope promote they do better. The question is, is doing better worth the journey? The working world has become like pro sports. Give it all and be crushed because you just were not pro material.

I've been watching an old sci-fi series from 1966, the Time Tunnel....bad acting, bad special effects....but I loved this show when l was a kid. Lee Meriwether was hot, even in her scientist garb. A classic.

    1. THE TIME TUNNEL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now this is a worthy off-season topic of conversation. I remember when I was like in my early 20's, a huge sci-fi guy (as I still am) and some local network started broadcasting the show like every Friday at 1 AM or something. my g/f and I (undoubtedly high at the time) just randomly came across it and were enthralled. ENTHRALLED i tells ya. This was pre-internet, so we had no easy way to figure out what the hell we were watching, but it was amazing. of course, we had jumped in in the middle of the series, and thus had no idea why the two leads were actually lost in time. but we quickly caught on as to what the series was of course, random showing up at historical events. it was fun. it helped that there were lots of Star Trek TOS actors showing up in it (oh look, it's the guy that spock's betrothed wanted to marry!). anyway, it was fun, entertaining, but not genius sci-fi or anything, and a bit cliche, or so we thought.

AND THEN. there was this episode where we discovered the Russians also had a time tunnel. mind. blown. and somehow the time tunnels got crossed, and the boys almost got home, but the clock came up one second short. i may be misremembering this, but i recall being blown away.

      tl;dr - I agree with the M

  31. The Montreal Canadiens and defenseman P.K. Subban have entered the ask-and-counter phase of the arbitration process, with both sides submitting their numbers Wednesday morning in advance of a hearing scheduled for later this week.

The NHL's salary arbitration process, outlined here, requires the two sides exchange briefs no less than 48 hours before the start of their scheduled hearing.

Montreal's number - on a one-year deal - would slot Subban slightly higher than the likes of James Wisniewski, Tyler Myers, Jay Bouwmeester and Dennis Wideman, and behind teammate Andrei Markov in terms of 2014-15 salary.

The $8.5 million figure from Subban's side, on the other hand, would make him the third-highest-paid defenseman in the League, behind only Shea Weber and Ryan Suter.

Note, however, that only Group 2 free agents can be used as comparables in the actual hearing.

As mentioned by Friedman, the two sides are likely working towards agreeing to terms on a new contract before Friday's hearing.
