    1. I heard a story on the radio about Guy Lapointe putting ice cubes in Steve Shutt’s suit pockets. When Shutt found the cubes he launched them at Lapointe, only to have Lapointe move out of the way and they hit Henri Richard square in the forehead.

The entire team broke out into laughter while the rookie Shutt stood there in terror while Richard gave him the cold death stare.

    2. I pvr'd a new show on RDS "Table d'Hote" (they sit down, have a meal, hence the name I guess) airing monthly on RDS (airing again today @3"00 next show is Therrien) This first show features Pointu, Bouchard, Houle and Savard hosted by Pierre Houde. I haven't watched it yet, but during the preview, Houle threw a glass of water at Pointu.

      From the press release:
For the first episode, which RDS will air on Friday, November 7, at 8:30 p.m. ET, viewers are invited to partake in a feast of anecdotes and memories centring on the career of Guy Lapointe, the former Montreal Canadiens defenseman and member of the legendary “Big Three” whose jersey will be retired and hung from the rafters of the Bell Centre 24 hours later.

      From the press release:

For this special occasion, Lapointe will be joined by three former teammates—Serge Savard, Pierre Bouchard and Réjean Houle. Hosted by Pierre Houde, the debut episode of TABLE D’HÔTE will give viewers a taste of hockey in the 1970s as the guests look back on Lapointe’s career and open up about their memories of the great d-man—and incorrigible practical joker!

  4. This day in hockey history:
"1952 - The Rocket soars to the top

Montreal Canadiens star Maurice "Rocket" Richard becomes the NHL's all-time leading scorer as he pots his 325th career goal against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Montreal Forum.

Richard passes Nels Stewart after going scoreless for three games.

The historic marker comes exactly ten years after Richard's first NHL goal, scored against the New York Rangers on Nov. 8, 1942.

He finishes his Hall of Fame career with 544 regular-season goals. In 1998, the Canadiens donate the Maurice Richard Trophy to the NHL, an honor bestowed on the league's top goal scorer ever since."

That black and white photo showing all three of the Big 3 on the ice with Bunny Laroque or Wayne Thomas in net must have been the year (1974) that #29 sat out learning to be a lawyer. No, not the 29 that hangs out here. I only recognize one NY Ranger, the great Jean Ratelle, before he became tainted by bruin shite.

The late Bill Nyrop played with them quite a bit. I think you are correct about Bouchard and Awrey, also Jacques Laperriere earlier. Rick Chartraw comes to mind and Rod Langway was introduced around the end of the Big 3 era.

They've just combined all the sick anti-Habs fucks in one big conglomerate. Twelve (12) more years and probably for eternity, the Habs hate by SNet/cbc/tsn will continue. Why? Because the Montreal Canadiens had the audacity to win many championships and beat their wretched, putrid leaf with regularity up until the late '90's when due to some unexpected incompetence the wheels fell off our beloved Canadiens. Hopefully Marc Bergevin will restore them to some semblance of a winning organization. Some more weeding is necessary.

  37. That was nice. What's that saying? The only ones who understand ceremony are the Romans and the Montreal Canadiens.

Just to chime in about changing the Norris to the Orr Trophy. Why not make a new trophy for the most offensive defenceman, and keep the Norris for the best defensive one? They have a bunch of trophies for forwards, why not make 2 for d-men, since people are confused about what the Norris is all about now anyway?

    2. I'm starting to believe this is how the broons are getting their revenge. We all know the broon has a lot of sway in the NHL head office, and I'm convinced that Jacobs has gotten the officials to target the Habs. I went back a few years and no team has led in both most penalties and least PPs for. It's early, we'll see how it all shakes out.

    1. I watch on game center so I can replay anything. I can confirm that they only replay things that they know the refs 'got right'. If they don't replay it, the official got it wrong. Same with offsides and icings.

When they have these sweater retirement ceremonies and we see the great players of the '70s it brings back memories of those great teams and the tremendous talent of those players. Then we have to watch this.

I swear, the likes of DD, Lego and a few others wouldn't have made the Nova Scotia Voyageurs back in those days.

To reiterate, Therrien constantly, constantly throws DD out there for the PP and gets absolutely sweet fuck all. You'd think he would try somebody, anybody different to shake things up. What the fuck is the matter with him?

    ReplyDelete
  60. So he turned a story about Guy Lapointe into a story about himself...man he hasnt changed a bit...what a twat! Back to TVA

13.7% more penalties called on road team

    ReplyDelete
  66. The 1st line is so ineffective, in part, because the opposition knows DD won't shoot, so they don't have to cover him. They just double team Patches. And like clockwork, DD passes it to Patches or someone else covered and it's a turnover.
