I hate to say "I told you so.", (Hawks are due to explode - expect another embarrassing loss tonigh.) so instead I'll put my prophetic skills to use for good and suggest Toker gets the nod tonight and the Habs get the win...though the system* will still be fucked up.
*system - play veteran plugs over skilled rookies with high potential.
2009 - 100th anniversary... draft at the bell... French kid ranked right at where they were picking... Timmins and Gainey didn't dare do anything else. I thought Simon Despres was the better pick, he went 30th to Pittsburgh but the Habs had been taking defencemen year after year so they had to throw the fans (in attendance) a bone. Poor Louis, I knew he was in for a tough ride... the next great francophone hope, kinda like Eric Chouinard before him.
Sekac in for RBQ tonight. The light finally came on in MT's attic. DD should be up next.
Anyone notice who scored the winning goal for Calgary last night? Sean Monahan... just turned 20, 9 months younger than Galchenyuk... the No. 1 center for the Flames. Is he better than gCHuk? No, but unlike the dimwit coaching the Habs, Bob Hartley actually uses his player properly and is getting him training at the position he belongs at.
Hallelujah! Maybe he didn't see the light, maybe DGMB had a little chat with him. Question is, will he give him a token 2-3 shifts and bench him 1st chance he gets and then leave him out of the lineup again.
RBQ should be kept in the closet until the playoffs. Or play him every three games. What I do not understand, well just about everthing, but why do teams not run a bigger platoon of players. Vodkov should be rested on back to back. Lets give SuperPlexxee a break and let gCHuck have a turn at center. Bottom line TFS will stop it. So lets stop pretending we have some kind of system,
Bargain time: An influx of Canadiens fans from southern Ontario ensures a sellout for this game and — why not? — the tickets are a bargain even with the weaker loonie. On Tuesday afternoon, the box office was offering lower-bowl seats, on the aisle 19 rows behind the benches, for $99 U.S.
Gio is looking for his first goal and he'd love to have it against the Habs. He said he'd like to put that behind him before going back to the Bell Centre and you can bet Jorges is still pissed off.
This is our team, we are locked in to the core for at least four years. Make those fuckers work for their money or get another coach. If you know anything about life changing the coach is an excuse to continue in bad habits.
My greatest fear with the Habs isn't this season. It's the fact that they should be entering their window as serious Cup contenders in the next few years, but MT is completely fucking it all up. With the young vets like Price and PK finding their groove, the old vets still solid, and the young guns coming into their own, MTL should be a power in the East for the next 5 years at least. Instead, we have a coach that refuses to allow the development of the young guys, over-punishes his young vets and works his older vets to the bone.
It's not just about Sekac, for example. Lots of teams were after him and he chose MTL for whatever reason. MT sits him and won't even move him down because then Sekac can choose to play in Europe. How many future prospects do you think will opt for MTL now?
The fact is Price has made MT look like a way better coach since he got here this time around. Without Price last year, MT would have been fired. Without Price this year and their record is much worse than 8-4-1 and MT would be in hot water.
Fuck this patience BS. The East is weak, MTL shouldn't be fighting for a playoff spot, they should be fighting for 1st in their division, and probably winning it seeing Boston's decline. With MT in town they'll make the playoffs, possibly even make the CF again depending on matchups and Price's health, but that Cup window gets shut more and more the longer he sticks around.
Anyone who will play the young guys and give the old guys a break is better than MT. Win or lose right now.
I am so glad Centre Ice (US) is finally showing "Montreal Broadcasts", but Rogers just spent 3:45 on the Sabres, and 1:30 on the Hans in their pregame show. They'd better get hip to who's paying their bills, and right quick.
Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!!!! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go! Go Habs Go!!!!
Is that a real quote from eMTy O-man? Was I watching a different game? Now you can't fix everything at once, but how about HITTING THE FUCKING NET when you have golden opportunities?! Fortunately, the Sabres were even worse at this last night than the Habs. Take the two and run.
When you watch a jewel of a player like Tarasenko free-wheel and play a gorgeous offensively-minded game, you wonder what if gCHuk et al would be let loose. One can clearly see that the dump and chase doesn't work most of the time, the board-cycling is boring trap-type, low-percentage opportunity hockey and you can tell some of the players brains malfunctioning as soon as they get to centre ice, wanting to go for it but simply dumping it along the boards.
Yes, that is a real quote. I know he has to be positive. We'll see what happens this weekend. If Sekac is out again I think I might have to take a break for a while. It hurts too much, not for now but the future.
For those keeping track, here's a breakdown of the Habs' record:
Regulation: 4-4 OT: 1-1 SO: 4-0
That's 4 regulation wins in 14 games. They've only won two games by more than 1 goal (both by 2) and one was with a PP EN.
They've allowed 3 goals or more eight times, 5 or more three times. They've scored 3 or more five times, 5 or more once.
They've lost by 4 or more thrice and been shut out twice.
7/14 of their games thus far have been against teams that didn't make the playoffs last year. 11/14 have been to either non-playoff teams from last year or those that went out in the first round.
Yes, all the points count come April. But this is what we were laughing at the leaf for last year. It can't last. And it didn't. They collapsed because luck caught up with them. I will never be like the leaf or their fans.
One or two stolen games here or there, that's what good players can do. But you can't base your season on it.
Minny is very good but the boys had a successful turn around game against them last November. Here's hoping for a repeat.

Holy crap, John Collins says "Jersey sponsorship in the NHL is both “coming and happening”. I hope there is such a backlash that it never happens. I never want to see the Canadiens sweater defaced in such a manner.
" Andrei Markov (99-349—448, 779 GP) had an assist for his 448th career point, surpassing Doug Harvey (76-371—447, 890 GP) for sole possession of third on the Canadiens all-time points list among defensemen."
"Toronto Maple Leafs forward Carter Ashton has been suspended for 20 games for violating the terms of the NHL's performance enhancing substances program.
Ashton said the violation was a result of the use of an inhaler to treat an asthmatic spasm."
I have moved around a few times since those "halcyon" days but i'm sure if I fought my way to the back of the attic...underneath that horsehair blanket...next to the cribbage board and the poker chips...
"It's special, but we see it every day," said center Maxim Lapierre, who compared Tarasenko's shot to former Montreal Canadiens teammate Andrei Kostitsyn. "He's got such a good shot. Probably the best shot I've seen in my life. If he keeps playing like that, he's going to get a lot of goals. … It's one thing to have a hard shot, but he puts it anywhere he wants. It's easy for him to score goals, let's put it that way.
Are any of you familiar with the movie Mean Girls? If not, there's a character in it who tries to make "fetch" a slang word so she goes around saying everything is "fetch". Finally one of the other girls tells her, "Stop trying to make fetch happen! It's not going to happen!"
That's how I feel about the CotU media and Kessel. I watched part of the game tonight and you'd swear the guy was Crosby's and Toews's lovechild, the most gifted player ever to lace up.
Anyway, in a twist of irony, many subcultures now use 'fetch' to denote something that another person/group is trying desperately to make 'happen', but it's just not going to happen.
And thus, I decree that Kessel's new nickname should be "Fetch". Because seriously CtoU, he's not going to happen.
The mediots need a star to focus on in the CotU and they've never been able to draft one. Kadri, nope, Reilly nope, etc, etc. Sundin was the last guy they had and eventually they ran him out of town. They'll do the same to pHat pHil. Another season out of the playoffs will see the end of the Burke/Nonis/Pylon/Phatphil era.
