  1. Wow some reporter just ask MT "nice 2 get points but how does a coach like you feel when his team is so dominated by a team who is on the 2nd of a b2b"?
MT "Well, first of all I don't like your question. results are important and we take things 1 game at a time, we also played some games and come out with a win. We stayed positive tonight and we played against the SC champs. TFS was solid and you have to also give him credit.

    1. I don't like this idea of 'stealing one'. Habs capitalized on their chances and the Kings didn't. Price is part of the team, and he was sensational (once again). And the Kings wouldn't be 2 time champs without Quick. That's how it works.

Besides that, Kings got lots of calls their way. Lots. Two blatant high sticks went uncalled, a few offsides and icings once again went the other way when on closer inspection it was clearly the wrong call. So whatever, Habs wouldn't have won if they didn't have a superstar goalie. And the Pens wouldn't win if they didn't have a superstar center. I don't get the argument (not saying you're putting it forward, KmaXXX, but the mediot narrative).

Good morning everyone! I was out of town yesterday but I like what I've read so far this morning. Other than allowing lots of shots sounds like the boys played a decent game. A big win over the Cup champs and DD scored? I'll take it.

  7. Just got home from a night out with the friends, who had a night out for some birthdays but also because an old friend of theirs was visiting from Mongolia. Yes, Mongolia. Anyway, never met him before but he's a Habs fan as well. Because he was en route at the time, he was shocked to see the score when we were all together. I gave him the low down. I told him to look up the cakeS goal asap. We talked briefly about how bright the future is.

Just pointing out that the Habs extend to all corners of the world, even Mongolia. The guy's from Winnipeg originally, but he's streaming Hab games in Ulaan Bator. WE'RE ALL OVER THE PLACE.

  8. “He’s priceless. Price is priceless. You don’t see a goaltender like him every day,” praised Jiri Sekac, who registered the first multi-goal game of his NHL career, scoring his fifth and sixth goals of the season against Kings netminder Martin Jones. “I’ve been around. I’ve played in the Finals in the KHL. I’ve played in World Championships. But, I’ve never seen a goalie like that. He’s amazing. He’s good every game. He’s consistent.”

    ReplyDelete
  9. Though the shot totals were far apart, I don't think the Kings dominated the play in this game, save for about 10 minutes & Price was there for that. Habs took advantage of their opportunities and a less than sharp goalie. That's how you win hockey games. Great to see.

I can tell you with no Habs game tonight and the wretched leaf hosting "Babcock and the Wings" (per tsn headline), I'll be staying far away from hnic or hockey central or whatever it is now.

I wonder how Belinda feels about all of these mediot articles about Babcock?

    1. TFS was asked about the shots, he said:

“Sometimes, quality over quantity is more important. It was just one of those instances where there were a lot of so-called “stat padders”, but for the most part I thought we did a really good job of picking up those rebounds in front. They didn’t get a whole lot of second chances,” confided Price, who upped his record to 16-8-1 on the season, and 12-4-3 in games in which he’s made 40 stops or more in his career. “We were definitely opportunistic. We capitalized on the chances that we did get. That’s a good hockey club over there. They played pretty well. The score doesn’t indicate how that game went. We’ll take the two points out of it.”

  15. I was just looking at the Eastern conference standings for some reason, and I would like to point out these interesting factoids:

    - The Bs continue to be average at best, 3-5-2 in their last 10
    - Habs are 1 point behind the Bolts, but the Bolts are +21 ahead in goal differential
    - The Laff are +10 higher than the Habs in goal differential
    - If the Laff would win all their games in hand, they would leapfrog the Habs in the standings
    - Please kill me if the last bullet point happens

    ReplyDelete

    1. Laff haven't yet had the gruelling road schedule the Habs had - their turn is coming, so I'm not worried.

    2. the Maritimer10:37 PM

Yeah, they've played at home for a fucking month it seems. A western conference swing will fix them up.

      Delete
    3. It's true. The leaf are on a 15/20 (13/16) at home run right now. They haven't had more than 1 game on the road at a time since Nov 4/7.

Actually, the leaf haven't had a road trip longer than 2 games, which has only happened twice (they had a 3 game trip, but the game in Ottawa was postponed due to the shooting). They went to Colorado/Arizona, but besides that the farthest they've traveled is to Columbus.

On top of that, the leaf have only played Western teams 8 times (2 on the road). Bolts only 10 (6 on the road), Wings 6 (1 on the road). Habs have played 15 (7 on the road). But hey, they all have winning records against the West so maybe it's not as unbalanced as they say.

Out of the Bolts (17 v 14), Wings (18 v 13), leaf (19 v 10) and Habs (15 v 16), only Montreal has played less home games than road ones.

The leaf have a tough road trip through the Central division, Florida and Boston over the hoidays, with a quick stop back home before a trip through California/StL. That'll sink them back to where they belong. The Bolts have it really easy right now, but February is one big road trip through the West. The Wings are on a 12/15 at home run now, but they also have a tough road trip in the New Year that'll settle them back down.

The Habs just have to keep doing well on this homestand to maintain their position and let the tides turn on these teams when the schedule catches up with them.

  18. Watching the Kings/leaf game. The announcers are of course willing the leaf to win. I've watched many games with actual rabid leaf fans and they don't get so invested in the game as the announcers.

And the refs give the leaf a PP late and they score. It actually was a high stick, but I saw 2 of those go uncalled against the Habs.

Man, the announcers are positively giddy. They were actually cheering when they scored.

    1. Man, if you listened to these guys all the time you'd really be convinced that the leaf are a powerhouse team with the best players in the world instead of a terrible organization that needed a shortened season just to make the playoffs once in the last decade. 2. Moeman, the issue with the leaf fans is that, for the most part - they don't actually know any better. Since I was 3 they have not won a thing so there is an entire generation out there who don't understand what it is to win the Stanley Cup. Unfortunately, from experience I also know that if you live in SHITU, nothing much exists outside the boundaries of SHITU - so a lot of them don't know any better - not excusing them - just explaining a little - the mediots on the other hand - should know better but they are paid by the SHITU establishment so why bite the hand that feeds you.

Without a doubt one of the biggest bonuises I ever got by moving to the UK was that I got to leave SHITU behind. My mother still lives in Oshawa, (next door to a rabid Habs fan btw)...and it is only when I call her that she learns more about what is happening with the Habs. She can never find any news in the local papers. And she is a Habs fan from a way way back. Apparently she used to have an autograph book with the likes of Kenny Reardon, Butch Bouchard, Doug Harvey, The Rocket, etc., etc. in it - apparently she used to hang around the old Forum with her girlfriends and get them to sign her book- but she reckons one of my uncles nicked it when she moved out and married my Dad (RIP). So she gave upon getting any unbiased hockey news a long time ago. Which is what all of you who have the misfortune of having to live in SHITU should do as well. The internet is a wonderful thing!!

  21. Say what you will about Rogers, this is the first year I haven't purchased the package with RDS to watch Habs games, and all but a handful have been televised so far this year (down east at least). 4 of the 5 games during the current homestand will be telelvised here, sadly the lone game missing will be the Ducks and Koivu's farewell. I'm sure there will be no shortage of hi-lites on the interwebs, but would have been nice to see the fans' reaction live. I still get goosebumps when I think of that day he returned from his bout with cancer. And if it wasn't for Justin (Jason?) Williams taking his eye out (in direct sightline of the ref might I add), 2006 playoffs would have been vastly different and Koivu's legacy might be even greater. Not saying that 2006 team would have won it all, but I think would have certainly taken the Canes. The team just seemed lost without Saku. Hard to believe the Oilers were in the final in 2006 and have pretty much stunk out the joint ever since.

    2. Just another note about the SN broadcasts. Even though they can be painful to watch (content-wise in the intermissions especially), it's great having the ability to see Habs games in english, as I'm seemingly not smart enough to know 2 languages. I like Bartlett's play by play. Not a fan of York's colour analysis - seems to try to act like a homer a bit too much. Would prefer an ex-Hab that could act unbiased. Chantal's OK.

    3. the Maritimer12:43 PM

I'll echo Saint Paddy's comment re: Rogers. They are indeed part of the leafool zealots but they are carrying the majority of Habs games in English for us unilingual patrons. Any blackouts for folks outside the Habs "region" comes from the Buttman's NHL. I'm okay with Bartlett and Jason York is growing on me. They are not fucking leaf shills or they put it aside for Habs games. Chantal Desjardins is competent but she gets stuck with shit analysts like shannon and fuckface stuck.

Couple of things: as you are all aware the Oilers fired their weird looking coach today. He was an arrogant Toronto-groomed dick but I don't think he was the main problem. Those high draft picks, Hall, RNH, Yak, all over-rated. I wouldn't trade gCHuk for any of them. Connor McDavid will be going to a wasteland. If I was him I'd do a Lindros. Terrible organization.

Over at HI/O, a few posters are saying they would be afraid of the leaf in a playoff series. What? They're scared of a dysfunctional outfit like that known for epic collapses? The fucking leaf wouldn't stand a chance. The only thing that would be bad about a Habs/leaf series is the leafools and mediots would be unbearable. I wouldn't listen to or read a single word from the CotU.

I see Anthony Calvillo is now Offensive Coordinator for the Als. That should improve them for next season.
