  19. It's funny, everyone online and the radio is saying it's odd they never showed a replay of the too many men. In the past, if SN/CBC doesn't show a replay it probably means the refs got it wrong (or it went against what SN/CBC wants). I can't see what happened when I replay on gamecenter. But it is funny no replay was shown.

    1. TVA didn't show any inkling of a replay either but they did stress the fact that Letang was shouting it to the refs. RDS would have shown it.I re-wound the pvr to see if I could find it an nothing. I find it all very suspicious. Wonder if AC will have any video.

    1. even MT cant be blamed for this one
    2. patCHes shoulda either passed it back to PFK or made a quick move to backhand it in. it was impossible to score that, from that angle, after the d-man tipped it
    3. agreed. replay never shown. bogus call prob

Habs escaped with a point, despite the refs' efforts late in the 3rd.
I'll consider it a mostly successful night of sports.
Sucks being on the wagon though.

I thought the same thing about the too many men replay. Though watching it live I noticed a lot of action at the bench - just not sure the puck was played where the call needed to be made.

  22. So halfway through the season, the Habs are 26-12-3 (55 pts). They're on pace for 52-24-6 (110 pts). I'd take that.

Guess they forgot what happened a week ago. Guess they forgot that going into this game Habs were 3rd in the East with several games in hand. Yes, I'm sure it's just an honest mistake.

  30. Sadly I missed the entire thing...from what I see in review the key points are- Habs outshot, outhit, pp 0-4, lost 70% of the face offs and ddd had 18+ minutes of ice time...

  35. All caught up now...out hit, out shot, out coached...and not in that order! Unless DGMB find someone in desperate need of a third line centre during the all star joke/break...we are all doomed. He won't sack Therrien and Therrien won't stop playing DDD...the only option, left is to trade him for ...well...anything really...and that removes the option that Therrien had. AND WHYNTHE FUCK WAS MANNY IN THE PRESS BOX.? The Habs only won 30% of their face offs last night. I know...Therrien will have DDD and stumpy jr. Practicing faceoffsntil the next game. Do you guys see a pattern here? Lose the faceoff, you don't get the puck, you don't get the puck you don't get a shot, you don't get a shot youndont get a chance at a goal. Youndont get a chance at a goal youndont win...it all starts with Manny. Win the face off you get the puck. Younget the puck you make a pass - the Habs are very good at passing - pass the puck long enough and eventually someone decided " hey, I'll shoot...wtf!" Maybe you score...maybe you don't...but as long as you have the puck the other team doesn't score. Hockey isn't that complicated a game.

I wouldn't get too bent out of shape over PFK's all star snub. I haven't watched that ridiculous travesty in over 25 years. Really, does anybody care anymore? I will say though, like Jack Todd mentioned if you want the all ultimate show boat game to have some razzle dazzle why not invite the ultimate show man in the NHL. Buttman and his cronies are fucking stupid that's why.

Whilst here, since the Habs don't play until Wednesday, I thought I might as well take a jab at MT for being a stubborn dick. OK, I'm done now. Go Habs Go!!

  41. Its rare for a team to have more than two players at the All Star. This year Patches has been more star than PFK. I won't say PFK is struggling but he is not having a all star season. I am not counting but he is making eye popping unforced give aways on a regular basis. I do not blame PFK but his rushing the puck game is also vanishing.

"The team has shaken up their power play, which ranks 27th in the league, by creating some new units. These units have diamond formations with distributors on the half walls. The first unit includes forwards David Desharnais and P.A. Parenteau on the walls, with forward Brendan Gallagher screening in front of the net, winger Max Pacioretty in the high slot and defenceman P.K. Subban on the point. The second unit includes defenceman Sergei Gonchar and forward Tomas Plekanec on the walls with forward Lars Eller screening, forward Alex Galchenyuk in the high slot and defenceman Andrei Markov on the point."

That first unit will have the opposition trembling in their skates. Good ol' MT, he sure is consistent.

  56. So apparently MT has taken gCHuck off the first line. So DDD gets 2 season there to prove his worth (and never did), and the future of the team got, what? 11 games? Oh, and the Habs were 8-2-1 in those games. DDD had to go 50 games without scoring a goal before Mt even considered taking him off the first line, and he still gets first line minutes AND priority on the PP.

Like I've said, it's not just about this season. MT is seriously screwing with the future of this team. cakeS still getting barely 10 minutes a game, Ghetto sent back down. But TFS keeps making him look better than he really is. People talk about Babcock, but even if he wanted to come here (big IF), if the Habs get to the ECF again on Price's back do you really see a change happening. Great goalies make mediocre coaches look great.

If he wouldn't show such unequivocal devotion to DDD, giving him an extraordinary share of PP time over more talented and better equipped to compete players, most wouldn't be questioning his motives or strategies. I wouldn't anyway. Not that he would care.

It doesn't matter if the PP improves or not, the Habs are still a soft team that's easy to play against. All they really have is Prust and he can't do it all by himself. They need a nut or two like Downie running around to make the opposition wary. gCHuk took a beating against Pittsburgh and nobody responded.

  68. The odd/weird thing about MT2 is that he has a winning record. Not so much odd about the record, considering the players. Just odd that he is an unlikeable figure doing some odd things. I think he has a touch too much arrogance about how good he thinks he is and has some ignorance about the long term of the players and their careers.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. MT is no dillitante. The thing to understand about NHL coaches is that they overall want to win. All the things we project upon them are bullshit. MT believes than DDD can save his job, bet on that.

      Delete
    2. And vice versa.

      Delete
    3. And this is where I sometimes feel bad about the slamming of MT (of which I am a major player I admit). Of course he wants to win, but the thing is that his arrogance is probably the biggest reason he's making the moves (non moves?) that he is. He knows best about how to handle a"rookie" or he knows best about certain players - as he sees through his own eyes - and he won't be told about more modern approaches - to everyone's detriment. Hence why I say he hasn't got the chops to get the Habs over the finish line. The NHL and the modern NHL player has changed and MT has not kept up. All of which frustrates me no end. But DGMB sits up in the press box night after night and surely he must see it. He sees other teams throwing a really big strong player to the front of the net during a power play and seeing how much trouble it gives our players. TFS invariably saves our skin most of the time. But then our PP comes out and what do you get? DDD, Plecs, Patches, PFK and Vodkov. No net traffic, too many passes, next to no shots and even fewer goals. Insanity!

  70. So the mediots are all flustered with PFK deserving, or not, to be on the All-Star team. NB- this does not necessarily qualify a player as a true All-Star. In the fuckface bettman era can we be surprised off this slight? PFK is arguably (outside of all the non-Bell Centre booing) the most fun face the NHL could want (OK, maybe not the old, white darrenpanged way, not-quite-pro-archery pose school). Of course, PFK, today, came out classy and eloquent to put aside the noise.

Having said that, PFK also notes his play has not been All-$tar-ish. I'm cool with that. I also expect more from him. He has been good so far this season. Good, not great and not PFK!ish. I'm not worried. Of course I want a bit more but I'm not worried. The big(ger) games are ahead and I expect big play from our big paid playah.

In a year where we lost the most representative and classiest Hab of all time, I am beyond pleased to see Carey Price represent the Montreal Canadiens at this event. I've said it before, he is the new face of the CH's class. We'll have a new Captain next year. Maybe one that will have taken us to the holy grail. Regardless, the soul of the Canadiens is TFS™.

Great comment moe, you are correct, PFK has tried to cut back on the flash and dash. He is probably trying to stay in MT's good graces. He has more to offer and let us not forget how prominent he was in the Boston series last spring. Your assessment of MT is spot on as well, there is just something about him that rubs me the wrong way, even though I've never met the man. I wouldn't be unhappy if MB pulled a Lou Lamorello and canned him just before the playoffs. The players can say all they want about MT being OK but with the obvious favourites and certain people being picked on for any mistakes well, that can't be going unnoticed. An early playoff exit might expedite matters. We can only hope.

    2. Thx the M.

PFK (and DGMB) has/have $72M to be in Habs' fans good graces. I may have ragged on MT2 but if the team somehow manages a Stanley Cup final or better yet, win, I'll STFU and keep praising TFS™. He is that good a goalie/leader. The NYR seems for real, so maybe some Hab will need to be ready to take out cruder, if it comes to that. I think we need to realize, although we have no inside info. that DGMB and MT2 have a close relationship. My hope is the team and it's success outweighs that. MT2 isn't a bad guy, he's just a bad coach, for the team we have. We've all seen forms of favouritism, it isn't fun and we all stick by our favourites. The breakthrough comes when a collective approach is taken. Lafleur did not do it on his own (thanks don cherry). The Rocket with all his might did not do it alone. The blessed Jean Beliveau 'played for the team'. TFS™ incessantly repeats his praise for his teammates. I, FFS, try as much as possible, to make this place about all of us (it is difficult to find sexy man pics though). GYFHG!

    3. I'm actually glad PFK isn't going to the all star game, and I wish TFS wasn't going either. I mean, on a personal level I'm happy for them (if they actually really want to go), but as a Habs fan I'd rather they take the opportunity to rest.
