  2. Wow! - Second wow of the day but for a completely different reason! I have now seen every replay I could find on that "non-goal" by Chip. The puck very clearly strikes the toe of Lundquist then rolls to the crease in his pad and then out - that puck was very much across the goal line. The NHL has an entire department based in tranna that is paid to review precisely this kind of thing - AND GET IT RIGHT! What is the point in reviewing if you are not prepared to stand up and say - "That puck crossed the goal line" For the ref to say inconclusive" is complete bullshit. If it doesn't hit the toe and roll it never comes back out at the angle it does. They have Super duper slow mo...how the fuck can they get that wrong? Someone needs to be sacked over this. It is a travesty, a fix, a scam - absolutely makes a laughing stock of every single thing the NHL has tried to do in recent years. If they cannot get that call right - they have no business watching the cameras. I am completely appalled. It is stunningly bad to have not said clearly - "the puck crossed the line" I cannot blame the ref for this - he doesn't get to watch...although if he watched the replay on the jumbotron he should have thought "WTF - You guys just made me look like a dick" Wow!

    1. You'd think they, 'the war room' (how fucking stupid is that name?) would use every possible image/footage. They obviously don't, which makes their ruling a sham. They also cop out to whatever the ref doesn't see on the ice. Well, get lost then. Also, if the execs at the NHL think it worthy to have video explanations of suspension, well, why not cart out some war room pinhead to explain their decision. These biased fucks are making decisions on the outcome of games and FWIW, let's suppose CHip has a bonus clause if he gets 10 goals and he ends up with 9. Sick fucks.

    2. December 2013 -> ""In the first round of the Coyotes/Maple Leafs shootout, video review was inconclusive in determining whether James van Riemsdyk's shot completely crossed the goal line," they wrote. "Therefore, the referee's call on the ice stands - good goal Toronto"
It seems odd that the "call on the ice stands" in this case, since there didn't appear to be a signal one way or the other from the referees. "

Fraser-> "This very 'late' decision by the on-ice referee Thursday night following video review highlights at least two flaws in the current system. The first is that two different standards can be applied in determining goals. Video review must clearly see the puck across the goal line with an unobstructed view before they will verify a goal. The evidence must be unequivocal! If this can't be achieved video review personnel render an 'inconclusive' verdict even in cases where it appears logical that the puck would have crossed the line.

The referee, on the other hand, as we saw demonstrate on this call, allowed a goal to stand by applying logic, common sense and the power of deduction to determine that in his judgment the puck had crossed the goal line."

So common sense can only be used by the leaf in the leaf video review room when it applies to the leaf. In this case the goal should not have been allowed because
1- it was not called a goal on the ice until after being reviewed by the leaf in the leafs video review room so lesf in the room cannot say 'call on the ice stands' and
2- leaf in the leaf video review room had absolutely no video image of the puck because it was under the goalie and completely out of sight by anyone, anywhere.

KmaXXX, I do blame the refs simply because of the fact they were fucking the Habs over all night and ruined a very good game with their bias. Lego boarding was a farce and the 2 on PK for being black among others.

  7. Tidbit about the CotU's coverage of Brodeur's retirement. So far, very few comments from actual goalies. How hard is it to call Patrick Roy or drop a shout out to Mike Liut. Nope, the mediots clamoured to get the opinion (I know, he's a French-Canadian too) of the erudite, loquacious and always interesting jonathan bernier. Neat that Brodeur won a Gold medal and that bernier virtually participated in Sochi.

The mediots are now ranking Bernier up there with Toskala aka Tossed Salad, who let one in from 197'.

I don't know what the big fucking deal was about Fat Marty anyway. Played for the worst trap team of all time. Saint Patrick was better than him anyway.

  9. Nice work moe.

    Re: Disallowed goal.

The NHL is the only major league to not have those new (as in at least 10 years old) super fast cameras. When you watch baseball, football, basketball, tennis, golf, camel racing, Mongolian hide and seek, they all have those hi definition super fast replays. They allow us to see if the tennis ball was in or out, if the baseball was in the glove before the runner touched the bag, etc. If you watch baseball, you know they can slow down a 105mph pitch so you can count the stitches on it. Yet the NHL, the fastest game on Earth apparently, cannot be bothered.

Why not? Well, those who believe tin foil hats are a classy fashion accessory for any occasion might say it gives the NHL an opportunity to skew games the way they want every now and again. Every sport fan already agrees that the NHL has the worst officiating, but it's always blamed on how fast the game is. Well, technology has now made it possible to literally slow down these close calls to the point that there would be absolutely no confusion. It's not like this stuff is unproven or prohibitively expensive. The only possible explanation is that they want to keep some level of subjectivity in these calls. They don't want a definite answer that every schlub at home can plainly see. They want to leave just enough plausible doubt that they can make certain calls at certain times.

We're told that the reason why the officiating is so inconsistent is because different officials work different games and the context is always changing. Fine, even if that is more of an explanation than a legit reason. But why is it that the War Room is so inconsistent? It's the same guys (who they try to keep a secret, but an article a few years ago proved they were 90% ex-leaf employees). They're not supposed to be watching the game or even aware of the teams involved (unless it's in the video). Yet we see one replay deemed a goal one night, and virtually the same play deemed a non-goal the next. And the video always leaves juuuuuust enough subjectivity to make either call sound legal.

As I said yesterday in the game thread, even the Ranger announcers declared it a goal and were getting impatient with the review, saying it's a good goal let's move on. They even sounded pissed when it wasn't counted, like besides rooting for their home team, the integrity of the game was being damaged. But this is the same league that had/has the father of an active player be 2nd in command, what do we expect?

As I always say, it's just a game. But on the other hand, it's just a game!

  10. I'm getting sick of bringing up the leaf, but one more. Remember when they won a couple of games in a row last December and TSN was declaring them the team of the decade? In their most recent mandatory 8 page article about the leaf, they called that 10-1-1 run 'mesmerizing' that made them 'one of the hottest teams in hockey this year'. The Habs are currently on an 11-2-1 run. They've won 6 in a row twice this year. Does anyone want to take a guess of how many articles have been written about their runs? How many times TSN described them as 'mesmerizing' or 'the hottest team in hockey'. No, we just get the occasional screed about how they're a terrible team being carried by an amazing goalie. Like if that were even true, it's somehow unfair. I guess when you only watch one team you start to believe that every goalie should let in 150 foot shots in.

Sorry Orangeman, it's not in their DNA to ever say anything good about the Habs. It's why we enjoy their collective misery when the leaf suck, which is most of the time.

  13. Big rumour today Yak and Petry (UFA) for Lego and Bo. No guts no glory I guess. Lego is WYSWUG but Bo has lots of upside, so does the Yak. Best player wins the trade, you just do not get to many shots a a first overall draft pick.

    2. Yak and gCHuck together would be interesting. I love Lego, though. Giving up N8 is not a smart move. But if MB thinks this is the year (and next) to make the push for the Cup this would be the move to make. They need scoring more than anything.

  14. So now Kerry is reading lips (and minds!) to justify PK's penalty for not fighting POS. You see, he can clearly see POS mouthing 'fight' in the penalty box, and anyone who has watched Crtoch's Corner knows, once one guy says the magic words, the other guy MUST oblige. Because that's what people pay $200 to see; Superstars waste their time fighting nobody thugs. Also, PK may have, maybe, in some angles, could be said to have made some sort of move with his shoulder upon exiting the penalty box and therefore totally deserves the same penalty as some useless goon who drops his gloves, attacks a star player and lands some shots. Totally. Because the NHL is run by boys who never matured past 12. Also, PK totally deserves embellishment penalties until he proves that he doesn't deserve embellishment penalties by not getting embellishment penalties. See: not maturing past 12, above.

This is all justified by the fact that the Habs drew so many penalties last playoffs, which is the only reason why they made it as far as they did. Hey, did you know the Habs got 44 PPs while their opponents got 51? I bet you didn't because that has never been pointed out, and even though I've taken it upon myself to post that stat on every single article about the Habs since the start of the season for some reason it has never been published. What a strange thing to happen.

    3. Took me a least 5 to 7 tries to get mine posted. Kerry is a card carrying member of the ORA, he's written of his found memories growing up and gathering around the tv with his family to watch their favourite team - the laffs. Even when his articles side with the Habs (rare) he always carries undertones and inflexions of bias towards them.

      He's a regular on Nilan's show now.
