That's what I looked like this morning except I had my Habs toque on. Jeebus.

  2. Reporting from beautiful Brazil! A cool 23c today, feel sorry for me. Two 12 goddamn hour flights got me here early Sunday morning. I was able to grab a giant salami sandwich and catch the game on delay on my phone as I watched the sun come up over Sao Paulo. What a world we live in ! What's not so great is that the gamecenter app can hide the score but it still tells you if it went to OT or a SO. So that took some of the suspense away. Why would they do that?

Took a walking tour of the city today. Some nice architecture and lots of interesting characters. People make a big deal about the crime here, but really by the third time you're mugged at knife point you're just going through the motions. I kid, I kid. I only respond to guns.

I have a big bottle of duty free whiskey waiting for the game tonight since I'm only 3 hours ahead now. But since jet lag hasn't hit me all day if I do get tired before 10 I'll hit the sack instead of forcing the issue. I have a big day of visiting the futebol museum and going to Carnival tomorrow. Did I mention it's Carnival? Not as big as Rio's, but not nearly as expensive either. Saw some of the kids all dressed up heading to the parties on my way back this afternoon but I'm old and I need rest.

    GO HABS GO!

    2. This is country number 29 for me, not counting the Vatican or a 5 hour drunken layover in Moscow. It's my first new country since 2010 because I've been wasting my time going back to Thailand each year for a while. It's also my 5th continent, and I regret not going to Morocco when I had a chance in Spain. But I'll get to Africa soon. Got some friends in South Africa and always wanted to go to Botswana (read about it when I was like 5 at the library, have never let it go).

Travelling is what I do. Some people want love, a bank account, a good job, clean clothes. Not me. I prefer 12 hour flights and knowing how to say, 'Please don't hurt me, I'm Canadian!' in 14 different languages. It's all about priorities.

  11. Oh oh oh! I can do a dinner thread now!

    Salami.

Yup, that's it. I literally bought out the local market of salami today, that's pretty much all I've eaten since I got here. Sandwiches or just by the slice. Hey, you live in Asia you get surprised at what you crave most in life. Tomorrow I'm visiting the Jewish deli to get some pastrami. And then Lebanese for dinner. What Lebanese? ALL OF LEBANESE.

Sorry, jet lag may have hit but my third drink says keep going! GO HABS GO!

    2. He's not going to leave, is he? I mean this seriously. I can't imagine the Wings don't give him a good offer, and I can't really see an up and coming team that would offer him more. Obviously we'd all love to see him in Montreal, but even given a huge collapse MT isn't going anywhere.

  26. So, like, I'm really lazy to look it up on my own, but who took over the Wings in the early 90s that made the organization such a classy annual threat?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Mike Illitch in the early 80s. Then a Beliveauesque player named Yzerman took over. Also, some guy maned Scotty Bowman helped out.

      Delete
    2. Holland's gotta be there 20 years or close to it. I'm also lazy/uncaring enough to look it up...mighta been a little coach by the name of Scottie in there too.

      Delete
    3. *Scotty - you know it moe

      Delete
    4. St. Pad knows, good management, top down. Also some goalie named Hasek and some defenseman named Lidstrom. Biggest blemish was signing a slug like bertuzzi.

      Delete
    5. Right. Bowman. Right. And Yzerman. Plus, I remember they were on of the first teams to welcome European players, especially Russians after the end of the Cold War. That's gotta count for getting later Euros.

Hasek, my personal pond hockey goalie hero, came a bit later. He's part of the vets who went to Detroit because they had such a good rep. What Montreal used to be, and hope will become again.

But man, incredible scouting, leadership and free agency. I'm actually surprised Jagr hasn't played for them.

Yet. The guy will be getting hat tricks in his 50s.

    2. I never really understood insults like 'cocksucker' or 'pussy'. I mean, your wife is a cocksucker. Hopefully. You hate your wife? I love my cock. Why would being a cock be a bad thing? Pussy? Don't you love pussy? Didn't you come out of one? Isn't that awesome?

I mean, cocksucker. If I could suck my cock I totally would. I would wear a 'cocksucker' badge happily. O is it supposed to mean 'gay'. Lots of my favourite people are gay. I take no offence. Pussy? Oh, I'm a girl. Lots of awesome girls out there. My mom, aunt and sisters just some of them. No offence. This is why I don't like calling Pylon 'Celine'.

I'm not being PC, and obviously I know people here know what I'm talking about. But this was an opportunity to type out my thoughts on the subject. I love insulting people, but we have to give more thought to it in order to make it hurt.

  30. #1 PP taken down twice.

  31. Tom Gilbert has quietly had a very solid year. I have nothing negative to say about the guy...maybe the hair. Solid play night in, night out. That said, I'm still not happy about ditching Gorges' $3.9 million for 3 years for TG's $2.8 million for 2. I feel bad for Gorges, stuck in Barfalo. Hell of a lot better than CotU though!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I never really understood shipping Gorges out, but then after the last two games against Buff TSN 690 pointed out all the scrums he got into after the whistle and speculated if not there was something going on in the locker room before the trade. It sort of made sense. I thought he was a future captain, but maybe the younger guys didn't like him, and MB believes in the youth movement.

  32. kidG will never draw a penalty without taking one himself...this time for his stick coming up into the face of the guy that just bowled him over. Fcking zebras. Fucking Bettman. Fucking league.

    3. Yes, O'man, never = rarely. That was awesome, agreed.

    4. Oh, I wasn't trying to be contrary. I was just shocked and will remember it for years.

    1. Against the other 7 playoff teams in the East: 14-4-1.

That's right, they have more losses against the bottom 3 teams in the league than they do against the 7 playoff teams in the East, even with playing them almost 3x as many times.

  49. Alright, good night kids.

  50. Sounds like I missed a party! Another shuttie for TFS and the boys outshot Detroit. Very nice effort! Go Habs Go!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well played game. Hell of a CHip pass on that first goal. No mention of it though in the CP article on tsn: fucking hacks.

Plekanec came off the bench shortly before Pacioretty sent the puck his way for the game-winner.
"I saw it was wide open in the middle of the ice and just tried to put myself in the best position to put it in the net," Plekanec said.

  52. the Maritimer6:18 AM

Good Morning FHFers! I decided to just relax and watch the game last night, no commenting. That was as fast paced a game as I've seen in a while. Detroit are quick transition team, just like our Habs. Shamahan and his ban of merry leafools should be watching games like this for a blueprint for their putrid team, not that I ever want the leaf to be any good. Anyway, great game, I'm impressed with rookies like $ and Stumpy Jr. I'm wondering if MB really needs to do anything at the trade deadline. Montreal doesn't score a lot but do they really need to? The defence looks fine and Price looks almost unbeatable currently. I wouldn't be selling the farm for a sniper.

  55. Just when you think the can't lower themselves, the CotU mediots just pile on more leaf shit while they completely ignore the other 6 Canadian and 20 NHL teams that aren't theirs. They don't report the hockey news, they make it up them post stupid internal opinions s news. The glorious fact that their team sucks, will continue to suck and will, thank the hockey gods, not make the playoffs, means they have to find other hack content to draw leafool ear and eyeballs. Oh and there's that 12 year albatross of a NHL contract, again, completely biased and unfairly managed. I've said it before and it bears repeating, it will continue to get worse before it ever gets better and then it'll be even worse. I have bee proven correct for many decades and now with the internet venues and services, these fucking fascists are proving what they really are.
