  2. "Things just started to go well. You find a zone," Price said with a shrug. "I don't know if it's just maturity or just knowing you have the ability or whatever it is, you just go out there and do your job. Obviously you need a team in front of you to play well. I totally trust the guys that are playing around me, and that's the God’s honest truth. All I worry about is making that first save, and when you're doing that it really simplifies things."

  5. I loved Cakes, I just don't thing MT did and never gave him a chance to succeed, but I'm not the coach. CRAP!

  6. FUCK MT2 THAT ASSHOLE HE RAN CAKES OUT OF TOWN I AM FUCKING PISSED

Seriously, one of the most talented forwards this town has seen in a while and MT2 just fucked him over. Fuck him.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Maybe he demanded to be traded after MT fucked him over again and again. PRICK.

+26 HF29 !!!! MT2's treatment of Cakes was utterly shambolic.

    ReplyDelete
  9. 14 fucking teams wanted him and he CHose the Habs - for what? to get fucked over.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I AM GOING TO TAKE 29'S LEAD WITH CAPS LOCK BECAUSE I AM ALSO REALLY FUCKING PISSED!

Come back for an afternoon seista to this fucking bullshit. Fuck you Habs. Good luck getting another talented free agent. We all laughed when I said even though the Habs were in first MT was ruining the future of this team. Well here we are. I'm certainly not laughing. cakeS barely had an opportunity to show us what he could do, but when he was given just a small chance he was great.

Well, now we can stop saying MB can do no wrong.

  11. Don't worry guys, we still have another week until they can run gCHuck out of town for a 5th rounder.

  12. "Smith-Pelly scored five goals and added 12 assists in 54 games with the Ducks this season. The 22-year-old is earning $210,000 this season and is under contract for one more year at $800,000.

Sekac registered seven goals and nine assists in 50 games with the Canadiens. He is also 22 years old, but is under contract for one more season at $925,000 with a cap hit of $1.35 million.

The move means the Canadiens will save $550,000 next season."

DLR appears to have a force field around him and Juri couldn't catch a break with that twit MT 2.0.
    Looks like we traded down.
This while Thomas and others are played.
Sorry DGMB jury's out on this one.
    Go Habs

  14. Maybe Pelly-Smith will work out ok, or at least not horribly. But what about the next young free agent? Think he's going to even consider the Habs? Not saying they should have kept him if he was hurting the team or there was a great move to be made. But the fact is he was doing fine and this trade will even out, best case scenario.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Not sure what to make of this trade yet - never heard of this Devante Smith-Pelly. He's shorter, wider and younger than Cakes, but he's not any great potential scorer. MT never gave Cakes a chance and he was doomed from the start. If this DSP plays hard in front of the net I guess he'll make a good screen for the PP...oh wait - he'll never see the ice during a PP...so we trade a slick skating 6ft 2 potential sniper for a shorter, slower, less skilled grinder for th 4th line...let's hope DGMB has a bigger plan for this...unless there was some big issue with Cakes and MT - THIS TRADE MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL

Whoa, whoa, whoa, everybody. In keeping with my Moey agreement to not trash the coach until this season is over, let me say: I'm OK with this move. There is more to this than meets the eye. Are there not rumours that Jiri maybe liked the Montreal night life maybe a wee bit too much? Are they perhaps avoiding another TiTs brothers scenario?

Sekac definitely had some skill and was fast but looks like maybe he was wearing down a bit. I don't know a lot about Smith-Pelly but I remember during the 2011 Memorial Cup tournament won by the Saint John Sea Dogs (with N8) that DS-P caught my eye as a type of guy who would go through a brick wall for his team. I seem to remember the analysts were applauding him as a very good prospect. Point wise, there's not much difference, so I don't see a big loss there.

I think the Habs just got a little tougher. Also, he's from Scarborough so there's a nice little dig at the leaf and a bro for PFK to hang with.

    GMMB isn't done yet.

I'm betting this deal is Rick Dudley approved as well. Seems this young man has lots of "character", a Bergevin requirement and loves to hit and hit hard. 149 so far this year. Yeah, I'm down with this.

      Delete
    2. Sober second thought tells us their is some good upside to the deal. Wishing cakeS well.

      Delete
    3. the Maritimer12:39 PM

Oh yeah, as usual I wish any ex-Hab good luck...until they play against them. Knuckles Nilan likes the deal as well, says DSP makes the Habs tougher.

  20. Well, I liked me some cakeS, and time will tell. But I remember this kid also from World Juniors. He's got some grit that the Habs can use. Here's hoping a straight up trade of some cakeS for Smelly Pith works out.

I wonder if Lego instead of cakeS would have been an option...

  21. Chester1:03 PM

I'll tell you what bothers me about this trade.
If That Twit MT2.0 doesn't like you, you don't get ice time and it forces DGMB to make a move.
He didn't like cakes, and I'm starting to not like him.
We have a fine bucket full of third and fourth liners.
    That's not our problem.
We need more offense and yuri had an upside there.
I know the numbers are comparable and I spose I should STFU until I see the new guy play,
But I liked yuri ... he had a great beard.
    anyway who am I.
And I have faith in DGMB and The Dudley.
    So ya
    Will he be playing tonight?
    Go Habs

  22. I guess once the shock wears off.....all the best to you Cakes.

  23. Kinda funny...Eric Engles (an actualy Habs journalist) published this moments before the trade:
    http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/canadiens-sekac-eager-improve-help-team/

There's no such thing as 'an insider' when it comes to Bergevin. I have faith in that guy...and I bet he'd be great to party with.

  24. I guess we'll see cakeS next week (maybe for a period anyway).

I was listening to Habs Lunch for a bit today, the thing with DSP, opposing defencemen will be on their toes (or asses) when he's on the forecheck. The shaved ape will be sore after playing the Habs...

The Canadiens do need some secondary scoring, Lego could be the next guy packing his bags since it was he and cakeS that MT threw under the bus last week. I hope Steve, wherever he is in his new job, will be okay after.

    ReplyDelete
  27. the Maritimer3:03 PM

The other thing I like about this deal is it's an actual "hockey trade", MB traded some size and skill for size and toughness with the production numbers being about equal. They are the same age with a year left on their contracts and not that it matters much, MB saves a little coin. I also think DSiP will enjoy playing in a hockey market since he comes from the self proclaimed center of the hockey universe. However, he wasn't a leaf fan growing up. Suck it Grapes!

    1. Bonus, it forces the mediots to talk about, the Habs. Proving how fucking braindead they are when it comes to real hockey outside of their universe.

      Delete
  28. The mediots are out in full-force with tsn saying lupul to Montreal and snet saying winnik. Their common moron thread of subconsciousness isn't the Habs .

    ReplyDelete
  29. Here's my issues with the trade, after reading some stuff.

-He adds size and grit. Ok, great. Was that really what the Habs were missing, though. They need scoring. Full stop, they need scoring. They're giving up a guy with potential for another 4th liner. But with GRIT!

-Comparable numbers. DSP played on one of the highest scoring teams in the league while cakeS played on one of the lowest. He also only had 50 NHL games under his belt.

-The Habs have a plethora of 3rd and 4th liners. Nothing wrong with that, depth is useful. What they don't have lots of is top 6 scorers. Obviously cakeS wasn't exactly at that level at this point, though he showed flashes. So what's the difference? Well, maybe cakeS could have been packaged with a prospect and/or for what the team actually needs. Who knows, though, maybe that's to come?

I realize there aren't a dozen Rick Nashes out there ready to be traded for. But this is, at the very best, a lateral move in the present (and probably a loss in the future). As I said above it also paints the team as a young gun killer, a place young free agents will likely avoid now. How many teams was it that were after cakeS, and after 50 whole NHL games, half of which he was benched most of (probably), they ship him out. Think the next guy is going to even consider Montreal?

Anyway, it is what it is. IT's not the worst trade ever, or even the worst Habs trade ever. MT's fingerprints are all over this and now he has another 4th liner grinder to put on the 1st line with Patches and his pet. gCHuck will play RW for 10 minutes a night until he has an opportunity to sign somewhere else (or is traded) but Price will keep the team at the top, until he is injured in the playoffs and they 'collapse' and MT will talk about character and grit.

Why am I so negative? I just spent the day on Copacabana and showered on my 14th floor terrace in full view of the whole city, even Christ up on the mountain. Time for a drink by the sand before the game.

    GO HABS GO!

@Orangeman, DSP played well in the playoffs last year scoring 5 goals in 12 games. Maybe Boudreau didn't like him but I doubt it. I have faith in MB and Duddy, they know what they need and if they can get a top 6 forward without giving up the farm they will do it.

Meanwhile, back at the center of the hockey universe they are wondering why Phat Phil, Bozo and JVR can't score any more. That's what they have to talk about.

  30. On another note...the bullshit bleacher report has this weeks power rankings out. The Habs moved up from 9-8...but every team except Nashville gave equal or fewer points than the Habs. It is a bullshit chart if I have ever seen bullshit! Hab haters all of them!

    ReplyDelete
  31. Here's the thing we need to also remember...the only reason this is billed as an exchange of 4th liners is because MT never gave Cakes the chance to be anything more than that. On any other team he is a 2nd liner - 3rd at worst and he is closing in on 20 goals...that is his potential right now but he never got a chance playing for MT...mark my words...we'll rue the day we bid adieu to Cakes...

Thanks to the utmost professional Saunders for doing this (crazy that no Canadian hockey sportscaster has done as much). Thanks to PFK for representing the Habs and modern hockey. Thanks to the classy Mr. O'ree for showing the way. Three superb people in what should be on a constant loop at the HH0F (its in the wrong city).

  50. It's nice to see that they can run Price but PK can be in the vicinity of a Blues player falling down.

Comment I like about DSP: Built like a tank, hits like a truck. Habs need some of that, makes the opposition be aware....

Today I go relax on the beach and while in the water I got blindsided by a wave while enjoying the barely covered people and eventually summersaulted onto a sandbar, landing right on my shin.
