    WTF is correct.
When TFS has a bad game and Phil Dumphy doesn't score ... we lose.
We're all going to die. It's obvious.
    Go Habs

  2. I have a more real explanation. Is the NHL managed?

  3. I was worried last night - but every team has their own bogeymonster - this year - the Sabres are that to the Habs. Let's hope the Devils don't make us 0 for February.

  6. What do you all think of this...I will just throw it out there for discussion...Lego to the Sabres for Moulson and a relatively high draft pick? I have always liked Moulson and he always plays well against the Habs. He did when he was with the islanders and from what I saw he played well against them last night...I just hunk something has to change for Lego so unless MT is moving out, you might as well move him and get someone who can help. He likes to play in the dirty part of the ice, which is what they need more of...discuss amongst yourselves...

    1. I think we already have BUF's 2nd rounder for Josh. Otherwise, yes.

    2. the Maritimer5:21 PM

Not 100% sure but that 2nd rounder from Buf is actually Minny's which will still be decent.

I wouldn't be heartbroken to see Lego part of some package to bring in a scoring winger/power forward type. He either lacks confidence in the offensive zone or doesn't have natural scoring ability. Steve would be heartbroken, but TT can find another Viking for Therrien to flay.

    3. I am kind of attached to Lego. However he has been a dissapointment to date. I worry it may be an Alexander Steen situation, he did not catch fire until 27. Of couse he was developed by the leaf, not a genius like MT.
I am for sitting pat. Lego was brilliant in last years playoffs and Patches not so much. This year we have the prospect of both Cakes and gCHuck comming alive. Next year lets make some moves if needed, this year let it ride.

      Delete
    4. In Lego's defence, he doesn't have an offensive role on the team. What little minutes he does get are in a defensive role and he has an ever changing cast of wingers to work with. If he makes even the smallest mistake he gets benched, while his hard work is rarely rewarded. I know we're not allowed to shit talk the coach, because as we've seen the last 2 games he's still a genius when TFS isn't brilliant (sarcasm font), but Eller is clearly on his shit list. If he got half the opportunities that a certain shorter, softer center gets he'd likely be putting up similar if not better numbers while also being more dynamic in different situations.

For his sake, and the team's, it wouldn't be terrible to see him packaged in a deal that brings more scoring to the Habs. But I don't put all of that on Eller. He should have an opportunity on another team since this coach refuses to even consider giving him a chance here.

I agree with you Steve and Orangeman nailed the problem. I would hazard a guess that if Lego is moved he will blossom somewhere else and put up points like the little fuckity-fuck. He'll never make it in Montreal as we all are aware, politics are against him. RDS/TVA will never allow DD to be traded.

  9. The NHL is a farce. PK gets diving penalties because he has a history of getting diving penalties, and the only way for him to stop getting diving penalties is to stop getting diving penalties.

It's the same "logic" that is used with thugs like Chara. He doesn't get a penalty because he doesn't have a history of dirty play, and then the next time he tries to murder someone they'll say he clearly didn't mean to do it because he doesn't have a history of dirty play.

Kreider has gone after Price and PK now. In both cases, the NHL has sided with Kreider. They are making a statement: "Useless nobodies like Kreider are just as, if not more, important to this league as its stars are. Well, depending on what jersey everyone involved is wearing of course". Imagine it was Weiss or Prust doing that to St Louis or Nash. Probably would have gotten thrown out of the game.

  10. Was reading Eyes on the Prize (I know, I know) but someone left a good comment there. I won't quote it all here, but it basically summed up the evidence that PK is treated 'differently' by the league and fans, even Habs fans. He's the reigning Norris trophy winner, but nobody believed he should make the Olympic team. He eventually does, but barely sees any ice time. He doesn't get invited to the ASG. Players demand respect from him, while giving him none. Tons of BS is allowed to happen to him in a game, but if he responds (or even if he doesn't) he gets a penalty. And if he dares fall after being attacked it's embellishment because he's obviously a 'strong, athletic guy who can take it'. I often listen to the post game show on 690 and almost every night there is one or two calls from Habs fans dissing PK and demanding he be traded. If he scores, he wasn't modest enough. If he didn't score, he's useless. In any event, he is always somehow an embarrassment to the jersey.

Anyone can hear the code words they always use with him. He's too flamboyent. He should know his place. He should show more respect to vets (aka white guys). He disrupts the locker room. He doesn't understand the real meaning of hockey. He should be more grateful. Even with this fine, we all know he is 'strong' and 'athletic' enough to avoid falling. Because you know, black men are basically animals that can take that sort of thing. After all, he just doesn't 'get' respect and love of the game.

What other reason is there for the media and fans of every other team to have put him under a microscope since his first day in the league? As the commenter said, hockey is/was the last almost all white sports league in NA (the world?). People like to shout about Iginla and Carter. Yeah, there's been a couple. And if they were anything but soft spoken and overly humble they were attacked (see: Ray Emery). But how many refs are non-white? How many guys in the front office? How many coaches, trainers, GMs, Presidents, owners, analysts, announcers or writers? I'm not saying that the NHL needs affirmative action, but it's pretty clear there is a certain 'culture' that dominates it. And it's also just as clear that they are threatened that this 'culture' might be changing.

  12. Exhibit #2: Evander Kane didn't play last game because of a team dress code violation (he showed up to the rink in track pants instead of a suit). I have never heard of a dress code violation resulting in a team suspension in the NHL, but ok. It's the comments around this, and it all uses the same language as above. "He needs to learn respect!" "This isn't the NBA!" "He has talent, but he's uncontrollable!" "Locker room poison!" "It's all about him, he thinks he's above the team!" "He just doesn't get it!" "He needs to learn how to do things the right way!"

Remember during the lock out (the last one...) a picture of him went around the web flashing money in Vegas. Every hockey fan was apparently outraged. Then I saw that pic next to one of some young white hockey player who had the almost same pic on twitter. No one said anything about that. Isn't that strange...

Anyway, whatever. I love hockey, and I don't have much faith in the NHL to promote or display it properly. But when fans also start buying into this crap, I'm just reminded how far behind our world really is. Especially hockey fans.

I'll repeat what I said over a year ago: If PK was a white kid from Saskatchewan he would have been one of the first names read at the Olympic hockey selection, and would have been on the ice in the last minute of play in the final game. And if he was playing for Toronto, he would have a street named after him already.

    1. Surprise, surprise, surprise, posters are now trashing Kane left and right because Lawless says he was scratched for wearing a track suit to a midday meeting. I didn't see anyone from the Jets confirm that or that he was scratched for disciplinary reasons.

      His article also said:

"If he’s miffed, and decides he’d like to swat back at the organization, Kane does have a card to play. He can elect to shut it down and have surgery on an undisclosed injury.
Kane has been playing with this injury for much of this season and could force the decision to have it repaired.

If Kane or the Jets announce in the coming days he’s going under the knife, it will be evident the player and team are at odds. Surgery has been an option Kane has elected to forego to this point. He’s played with pain and been effective. Up until now, the expectation was he would conclude the season and have this ailment taken care of in the off-season.

But Kane is well within his rights to say he wants things fixed and he wants them fixed now. If that’s the news which breaks in the coming days, we’ll know Kane has lost his appetite to do all he can for king and country."

So, if he's further aggravated the injury and advised to have surgery now and has it, it will be so he can stick to the team.
      Vultures.

  13. The whole "PK gets fined for diving" is a non-story to everyone except the leaf mediots. The new rules are very clear and as soon as he got that penalty, everyone knows he was going to get a fine - that is the rule. There is no leeway to not fine him, as soon as the ref called it it was a done deal and they could have written the story that night. It's a convenient way for them not to have to write another story about how the leaf has lost ten in a row...hehehehehehehehehehehehehehehehe

    1. The problem now that he's been fined, he'll be under an even bigger microscope by the refs and each and every one of them will be will be looking for it more than ever (if that's even possible). Let's hope he doesn't get speared in the groin again on Sunday.

Speaking of the broons and PFK:

Apparently,Quintal was on a Montreal radio show he explained why (Y) wasn't facing discipline for his hit on Spezza and also said he has contacted PFK about slew-footing and was 'reminded' that he was previously contacted by Shanahan too for the same issue.

The NHL manages games. I believe and it can not be proven that they manage big media markets playing against each other for the cup.

  21. I've decided to ignore the reunion of DDD and Patches. DDD actually had a good game against the Sabers, maybe the only Hab that did. But like I said before, it's not about DDD. I've always felt he has a role to play on the team. It's the coach who is misusing him (and others). We can bitch about Lego all we want, but if we switched the two guys' roles and leeway on this team the stats would look very different. It's even more frustrating because if DDD was an English kid from Manitoba we wouldn't even be having this conversation (he likely wouldn't even be on this team). It's not a personal thing, but it's a constant reminder that winning is not the first priority for the Montreal Canadiens. And that makes me sad.

  24. ""I do believe that Mike Green is going to get traded by the deadline," Bob McKenzie told TSN 690 on Monday morning.

McKenzie speculated that the Montreal Canadiens are among the likely suitors for Green, who will have a say in where he ends up due to the limited no-trade clause."

Um, he was asked directly by the morning guys - where or who did he connect Green with the Habs, then and ONLY then did he say well, I was actually speculating. Change your tune when called out eh?

The only one they did know about was Gorges because leaf have big mouths. I don't think DGMB will deal with them again - he knows he can't trust them. I remember him saying he can guarantee it didn't come from his side.

      Delete
    2. DGMB has 29 GM's he deals with that could squeal a deal. I'm not surprised a slob like nonis would leak it to his cousin. Further proof that CH class vs. leaf crass will always be present. I might ask J.T. to pen one of her wonderful articles about what is and continues to be the Montreal Canadiens class. Sure there have been some slips but decade over decade, generation over generation, from owners, to executives, to marketing, to coaches, to players (that are taught and some that just have it like Beliveau and Saku to name a few), the CH exudes class. Of course it can sometimes end at some of the fans. I'm maybe guilty of rudeness and less-than-respectful commentary but that is usually at the expense of total fucking idiots and morons and I don't get paid.

      Delete
  26. It's clear DGMB has something up his sleeve with all these call ups. He's obviously showcasing some prospects. Mike Green would probably help on the PP, but I don't think they need another past his prime d-man. They need scoring. Preferably a big, strong, young RW that can put up 25 goals a year. Because those are a dime a dozen...

  28. Why I Hate the Loser Point, chapter 14

    Current standings:

    TB 33-15-5 (53 GP) ROW 31 71 pts
    DET 30-12-9 (51 GP) ROW 28 69 pts
    MTL 32-15-3 (50 GP) ROW 27 67pts

First, let's have the real records. The Wings are really 30-21, and the Habs are really 32-18. But because of the loser point, the Wings are ahead of them. A team with 2 more wins and 3 less loses is behind the other (and other with 1 more win but 2 more losses is even more ahead). But fine, that's the way it is.

But what really gets my goat is the way the NHL has decided to split ties. The Habs have 3 games in hand on the Bolts. Let's say they win 2 of those and lose the other in regulation. The Bolts would own the tie breaker because they have more ROWs. However, the Habs have more wins overall.

The point to the ROWs being a tie breaker is to value those wins more than a SO win. Fine. Except in the scenario above, what's really happening is that they're valuing OT/SO losses than SO wins. If you're following this hypothetical case, the only reason that TB would be tied with MTL at all would be because they have more loser points. MTL would have more wins and less losses than TB in this case. But then the NHL breaks the tie based on how the team got those wins, instead of how that team got those POINTS. An extreme example to illustrate the point more:

    Team A: 1-0-81 (1 ROW) 83 pts
    Team B: 41-40-1 (0 ROW) 83 pts

Here, a team that won 1 game the entire season would be placed ahead of a .500 team that won 41 games. In the eyes of the league, this makes sense because a regulation/OT win is more valuable than a SO win. But is one ROW win more valuable than 40 SO wins? Of course not. But then, where do you draw the line?

In the MTL/TB case above, the league is saying that 2 OT/SO losses for TB are more valuable than 1 SO win for MTL. That might seem like a fair enough trade off. But what about Detroit? They have 9 OTLs. Are those more valuable than 4 SO wins?

My point being, the first tie breaker should be TOTAL wins. Who care how a team got the win? It's so hypocritical to decide games by shootout and then not count that win as equal to other wins. Either award it less points or don't discriminate. What the NHL is saying is that a SO win is not the same as a ROW, but a SO loss is the same as an OT loss. AND that two OT/SO losses are the same as one SO win. IT JUST DOESN'T MAKE SENSE!

Or, put your big boy pants on and make every game worth 3 points. 3 for a regulation win, 2 for a OT/SO win and 1 for a OT/SO loss. Because I am sick of having to explain this ridiculous system to my international friends who are trying to learn the sport. And don't even get me started on the playoff structure! My lord, the NHL is the most convoluted league out there.
