  2. Stone says PK was 'targeting that area' all night and he knew what he was doing, there was 'intent' there (to injure, ipso fatso deserving of a suspension). Ya know, the more I watch, the more concerned I get. PK's going to get a game I think. But fuck ya, we've got GonCH, Plaid and Dreamweaver in the wings. Sens ARE NOT good. No worries.

As a Leaf fan you are probably unaware that it even exists, but the playoffs start today. You see, when hockey teams have a winning record they get to play each other in a 7 game series until one team is left. That team is awarded with a trophy called the Stanley Cup. Maybe one day Toronto will be able to participate in these playoffs so their fans can understand that the biggest thing to look fodward to in April isn't the draft lottery.

  19. I didn't know because I didn't see it, but the Habs held a moment of silence for the recently passed assistant from the Sens. After the game, the Sens coach publicly threatens Habs players. The difference in level of class couldn't be more obvious.

  20. I'm back at work - I lasted until the fun all began apparently - so I will watch the replay later on tonight. One game at a time biys! The Habs need now only need 15 more wins. Friday is going to be red hot!

Stone is such a little bitch. This is the first I've seen it in real time (I saw the slash on replay twice before, and maybe I was letting my bias get in the way then). That was a love tap. It's a penalty, but it's not 5 and a game. The fact is the refs where embarrassed that they let PK go with that high stick in the 1st and were just waiting to go after him.

Also, I'm not entirely sure Lego's stick even makes contact with Zinandawhatever. Maybe it glances his chin? Either way, he sold the shit out that one, too.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The thing is if you reverse the roles on that play, with Stone slashing PK and PK rolling around like he'd just been shot, it would have been 2 for slashing and 2 for embellishment (with a possible 10 minute misconduct after PK complained) and then of course another fine for PK and MT. And the SFU wouldn't have said boo about it, other than to criticize PK and the Habs. And that is a fact that we all know. It's shameful and disgusting.

Doing a little reading elsewhere, I don't usually troll the refs but that was fucking atrocious last night. As one commenter said, it was like Ottawa had seven skaters on the ice last night and their two most effective players were Jackson and Kozari. Realistically, Gallagher was assaulted all night long and they let it go, the turds got the PP advantage 5-1 and there were two missed calls on the Habs I recall in the third period when DLR was hooked down and Plexxxe was hit from behind into the boards. That's when I started cursing at the TV. I will give MT2.0 credit, he held it together pretty good last night. I wouldn't have. Kudos to him.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Given Cameron's call for retaliation if PK doesn't get a suspension, I wouldn't play PatCHes even if he is ready. Whether he meant it or not, his turds will run with it and already put it into their game plan now.

  54. I'm sorry, I'm going to have to respectfully call out Chester and 29 and others who are wearing their rose coloured glasses when looking into the past. Guys didn't do this stuff back in the day? Really? Bobby Clarke didn't lumberjack chop a Soviet ankle? Gretzky didn't cry to the refs? Mario didn't embellish slashes? Guys didn't turtle? Stevens and Pronger didn't roam the ice looking for guys to give head shots to?

Sorry guys, PK isn't the first guy to give a slash or complain about a call or run his mouth on the ice. Again, with respect, you guys sound like the people who talk about the 1950s like there were no problems and everyone in the world lived in peace.

And, as we've talked about here, PK has to deal with A LOT more than most other guys, both from the players on the ice and the league itself. I'm not calling anyone racist, but I'm guessing none of us knows how it is to always be targeted, scrutinized and punished simply for your race while you play the game that you love. We can all pretend that it's not an issue, or that he shouldn't let it be an issue, but the fact of the matter is if PK wasn't black he wouldn't be targeted in the media and by the league as a "Dirty" player, and if he didn't have that unfounded reputation he wouldn't have gotten that misconduct last night. I don't even think that's exactly what was going through his head at the time, but I really wouldn't know what it feels like to always be targeted and get the short end of the stick either.

That doesn't mean we, as fans, can't scrutinize PK's actions. It was an obvious slash and deserved a penalty. I haven't seen anyone deny that. But it if wasn't PK, there is NO WAY that there's 5 and a game. NO WAY. There are slashes like that several times a game, I saw probably 10 others just like it on both teams last night. So we can hold PK to the impossibly different standard that the league holds him to, or we can recognize that he's doing his best in an impossible situation, and is a young man who will make mistakes in those situations. And if you think his attitude and behaviour is new, maybe you should rewatch some of the games from your heyday to get some perspective. The Rocket broke his stick attacking another player and punched a ref out and in response the whole city rioted to support him. But you've never seen an out of control player like PK? Ok, grandpas....

    (I mean that lovingly)

    4. O-Man - I had to do some searching...it was Valentines Day 1983 - the Habs won 4-2 - I think that was the year Jacques Lemaire replaced Bob Berry as coach half way through the season - actually not long after that game.... The Habs made it to the semis and lost to Buffalo. It was an interesting time - Lafleur was falling, Gretzky was rising, Steve Shutt was the leading scorer and Rick Wamsley and Richard Sevigny were carrying averages around 3.5 in nets. We still had Chelios and Langway and Robinson. Mario Tremblay (DIE!) was outscoring le blond demon and Doug Wickenheiser (remember him!) was a big name up front...It was still pretty cool and I really thought Gretzky was a whiny bitch!

  55. “I don’t want to use the phrase that I was told,” Murray added, referring to the alleged Subban threat. “Because we have players wearing (microphones) now, because we have four officials on the ice, probably one of the officials heard it. It’s not, ‘I said something, somebody else said something.’ I’ve asked the officials to investigate.”

Great! Then provide us with the clip of PK threatening Stone. No? Ok, how about the official who heard it? No there, too? So, yeah, then you were "told" because you have no other proof. All because the opportunities exist to gather proof, doesn't mean you therefore have proof. Or, you know, you could be making it up in order to distract from the threats your own coach made to the media.

    1. I mean, they can't just say he's not injured and will be playing next game. That would invite a lot of negative attention from fans, the Habs, the league and the refs. They have no choice but to give us this BS about him being so injured he *might* not play next game. A microfracture is like chronic fatigue syndrome or gluten intolerance. It's just a trendy term that sounds serious, but actually doesn't really mean anything. And seriously, unless his hand was chopped off there was no need for Stone to be rolling around crying like that.

A friend of mine always mocks me for always defending the Habs and was texting me last night to get me riled up. I simply told him to watch the clip. Got a message this morning from him, "That was uncomfortable to watch. You think his dad is proud of him?"

  61. Watching The Perfect Storm: the 94 Expos. Makes me sad and pisses me off all at once. That outfield I think was the best trio to EVER play the game, Alou/Grissom/Walker...Wow!

Can't wait to pick up the book when I'm back in Canada this summer. Need to watch this doc, too.

  62. Here's the Perron slash. Is it really that much different (another angel from the stands shows it's actually more vicious than here. Still 2 minutes).
