"There's the story of how he sat five or six metres up in a tree with his bow and arrow waiting patiently for a 10-point buck to pass, one he'd been tracking for days. He was alone, it was very quiet, no sounds but the ones nature makes. He'd been in the tree from well before sunrise. Price was at peace - just the way he so often looks minding the net.

He usually wins in the net. He won against the 10 pointer, too."

You can catch that interview tonight on The National and this weekend on One on One.

  5. Hey moeman... I'm just catCHing up on the blog from the weekend. I must say THANKS! for all your hard work on this blog, I enjoy it immensely. Also thanks to 29 for your help from time to time.

I did agree with a couple of points in Oleg's rant...I think DD gets CHastised too often, and MT, well the style of play may not be what some of us want to see, I think he deserves a little slack. Coming off a season when the team made it to the semi's he has followed it up with a 2nd overall finish.

I think it may have been the Maritimer (I could be wrong), who, early in the season predicted the Habs final record, and was quite close. I would like to share my own prediction captured in a text conversation with my son back in October.....

I think it was K3X doing the predicting, I'm too dumb to think that far ahead.

I still don't think DDD can get the job done but I backed off on MT's coaching style because he really has no choice. The whole fucking league traps so everyone has to play that way, except the leaf, they march to their own beat.

      Delete
    3. I did my predicting way back when...I was doing very well up until the March Madness...I had called for the Habs to go 56-19-8 - for 118 points - very bold I admit. They ended up, as we know, at 50-22-10 - 110 points. I was not a million miles away and if they had even taken 2 games off of Tampa and 2 off of the Sabres I would have been right on the button - so overall I'm pleased! As for DDD and MT - those discussions are for another day 'cause right now the team is what the team is - and it's gotta be all for one and one for all at this point in the year. IGAAT - Just fucking WIN!

Also, paraphrasing shanaham's hamfisted GM search comment , 'if you don't want us fuck you,if you want to be us, get in line'. Ignorance and arrogance will continue to define this putrid organization.

  10. The Habs are the Rodney Dangerfield of the NHL. Can't get no respect. They could have finished the season with 140 points and still be out in the first round according to all the experts. It's funny how they all keep saying that the Habs rely too much on their goaltender, meanwhile the only reason (besides an epic collapse by the bruins) is due to a hot AHL goalie. So even if you were to ignore the fact that Montreal is just a better team top to bottom, these morons are still picking a no name minor leaguer over Price. And we all know the script: if they win they were 'lucky' and if they lose they got exposed as the horrible team they are.

But we all know why, they just hate the Habs. It's better to be the underdogs anyway. Wow, made it to final four last year and second best team in the regular season this year, and still 'underdogs'. Can't get no respect.

I thought about the respect thing too, but that's not it. It's just plain old Habs hatred with a side of envy thrown in. The fucking morons making all these predictions couldn't pick their nose, so I ignore them. I boycott all their stupid preview shows and when the playoffs start I'll only watch the actual hockey and hit the mute button during the intermissions.

    I agree.
Hockey Night in Toronto can warp your development.
It's pretty clear that the slobbering CotU mediots have jumped from the smoking wreck that is the leaf to the sens bandwagon. Dunno but if I was a sens fan I'm not sure I would appreciate the attention from the armpit. In the meantime, the Saint Flannel will just continue to slide under the radar. In my opinion a much better place to be.
    Go Habs
    Is it tomorrow yet?

  12. DGMB should call 29, Shanaban is stealing his character line. One sign of leaf characters is all the bad actors are crying now, how much they love Toronto and want to come back. The question is why, they like golfing, they are all Tim Tomas Tea Baggers and think playing in the playoffs is communist because they dont get paid, their favorite charity cause is the blue and white disease? What self respecting hockey player would want to play in Toronto next year, or in the next five years. Climate change has already hit Toronot hockey, Toronto is the new Florida where invisible players want to hide.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Personally, I love the fact that the SFU/CotU mediots hate the Habs and refuse to identify them as legit contenders. Looking at the SN front page headlines right now, it's stories about:
    Jays
    Leafs
    Jays
    Leafs
    Jays
    Jays
    Jays
    Liverpool
    Oilers
    Blackhawks

    Their highlited videos are:
    Leafs
    Wiggins
    Jays
    Old Crotch
    Babcock story

    Their secondary storylines are
    Jays
    Leafs
Western matchups (HEY! Playoff hockey stuff!)
    Leafs
Baseball story about a 2nd Canadian team.

    The "Insiders" stories are about:
    baseball
    leafs
    jays
    jays
    leafs
that guy that went to 30 games in 30 days

This is a clear indication that not only do they hate the Habs, but they're giant fucking CotU only leaf fans. Not hockey fans. Not sports fans. It's clearly only "anything Toronto". A couple of clicks will get you to the GTA 2015 marbles championshiip. Another click will get you to the Toronto Association of Croquet and Bocce. Don't get me wrong - both great games, but hey what about Montreal, Halifax, Saskatoon's Bocce leagues?

What I wonder most is "do they know?" Do they know just how self-centred and petty they are? How arrogant they are to think anybody outside of that shithole cares about most of the stuff they 'report' on? Do they not realize there are far more important storylines across the league that should garner far more interest from "HOCKEY" fans? And I guess that's the problem as we know. Leaf fans aren't typically hockey fans (I won't paint them all with that brush since I know a few reasonable ones myself). But the guys in charge of editorial content on these CotU-centric pages clearly don't have a clue.

    1. They have a clue and their cued into clicks and eyeballs. That is their ongoing excuse. tsn is just as bad. You have to figure they have production meetings and plans for distributing content/media. They are both ignorant and arrogant and the leafools follow their lead and back up their teams \popularity' with lies about ratings and their inflated importance. The end result is to make money, nothing wrong with that but they do it while purposefully excluding 70% of the country and it's local fan bases. I believe they have no sense of integrity. The current leaf debacle is proof again that they don't give a shit because all of a sudden 'shanny' is their new God and MacDavid their potential Jesus. These people are desperate to be saved.

    2. And it just makes watching from afar all that more enjoyable and laughable...don't get me wrong - I feel very sorry for any real sports fans out there...but from where I am sitting (beautiful spring garden in the heart of the English Southeast) it is so pathetic it has now become allmost a sport in itself. The leaf deserve all they get because they don't bother to listen to anyone but themselves. You have a GM who is 5 stops above his station setting the team up for a continued run of shit - just his own particular brand of shit. He won't be told because he knows better...but he will repeat what so many before him have done and the leaf will continue to make me smile...BWahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

In typical stoic fashion, Markov blew it off, basically saying, “Lots of guys played 82, so what’s to get excited about?”

A live DJ and band will perform throughout the event, while drinks and BBQ-style food will be provided by La Cage aux Sports. Free Canadiens-themed haircuts by Notorious and Canadiens-themed permanent tattoos by Adrenaline will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis (18+ for tattoos) for a second straight year. A mechanical bull, face-painting booth, and alumni autograph tent will also be back, along with contests hosted by the team’s in-game hosts and Youppi! that award a variety of prizes – including tickets to that day’s game – to fans who complete certain challenges.

Media partners including RDS, 98,5 FM, TSN 690, CHOM, and CKOI will all be broadcasting live from the event, while Scotiabank, Ford, Canadian Tire, MBNA, Coca-Cola, and Canderel will also be operating promotional areas with giveaways for fans in attendance.

At the start of each game, fans without tickets are invited to stay on-site at the Terrasse DU Club, the outdoor patio area which will remain open until 11 p.m.

  25. I may have said a much over the years but I want to add to my SFU rant.

This Habs hate is a generation long (20 or 30 years, pick one). This all started with the CBC's decision to not stay with their mandated national mission and stop providing a national service.

Before I continue, I remind my FHFriends that I am French-Canadian, actually, Canadian-French by birth. I am Canadian.

So, in my estimation, their is a deep anglo angle to the Habs hate and it stems from sick fucks like foster hewitt and those that sucked off clarence campbell. I grew up in anglo Canada. Despite it's ramifications, Canada as a bilingual country, mercy Mr. Trudeau, is a good thing.

The CBC drove all the nails in the Habs hate, the final one being shunting La Soirée du Hockey because of financial reasons! HAHAHA and eat shit.

The majority of today's mediots are united in the sick fuck attitude because they grew up on this biased bile. No other reason why they all fall over themselves for their leaf (OK maybe René Lévesque has a small blame here).

There are very few of the mediots that don't have blue balls. Funny enough they are Canadians that come from anywhere but Toronto. They seem to be East coast Maritimers, Ottawa area types, West coast (who love to hate Toronto more than Montrealers) and Northern Ontario hockey fans.

I picked up on this shitshow when I was maybe 11ish, in 72. The Bruins love and Habs hate was weird to me as a young Canadian hockey fan. I lived maybe 45 minutes from hogtown. My Anglo friends where, in the majority cheering for Montreal. Some beaners amongst them, lackadaisical leafools but still, Canadian pride.

40 years later, the constant leaf drone has won them the airwaves. Enjoy it you sick fucks.

I'll give you the slow Weiser clap for that rant moe. I see things a little differently but they ultimately arrive at the same place. My memory of the way things were is a dominate Habs team of the 70's getting lots of air time on hnic mostly because they were the better team and the Ballard era leaf were a fucking joke. Even through the 80's and early 90's the Habs always seemed to get their fair share of exposure on the cbc. This may have been because the Maritimes were included in the Quebec coverage but I'm just guessing. Where I started to notice a big difference in coverage of the Habs was when they sold exclusive French broadcast rights to RDS in the early 2000's. This was when La Soiree bit the dust. The cbc seemed to pretty much ignore the Habs after that and all we got every Saturday night was leaf games. TSN had the odd game after that but seeing the Habs on TV was rare for us Maritimers. I finally got pissed off and subscribed to RDS so I didn't have to listen to mclame and the old crotch sucking leaf dick every weekend. As time went on, as you folks all know, hnic hitched their wagon to the leaf wagon train, tsn and sportsnet followed suit and here we are today. Karma is a bitch though and their precious leaf is now a smoking pile of rubble and all the Hab haters who work for the networks can do is trash Montreal at every opportunity. I used to fume about it but have learned to let go and am now amused by their hatred, envy, jealousy, arrogance and ignorance. I am praying for the Habs to stay healthy, play with determination and good sportsmanship and go on another lengthy(er) run and make all those bastards sweat bullets. The entitled leafools can only watch basketball and baseball now.

How was that rant moe? All the best brother, we'll have the last laugh eventually.

    2. Love it!

I moved to Ottawa in 1980, so maybe your Maritime Habs mileage varied to my experience. I saw this Habs hate start way earlier.

The Habs had no real Choice but to go with RDS. Turns out it wasn't so bad a deal, except for BM (man does that bring back original 4HF or what!?)

The crazy thing is that we will now be subject to years of tva stupidity because of, wait for it, CBC futility of choking the NHL contract as they swallowed snet's splooge (see Globe for the article).

As you say, the more the Habs win, the better.

      Delete
    3. the Maritimer7:16 PM

If I recall correctly, if the Habs had the national game on Saturday night, southern Ontario got the leaf no matter what. So if Ottawa was in that region that's what you got. Many Habs games were shown "in Quebec and the East" as I recall. I also recall many leaf fans complained about that, to my delight.

I read the Globe article today. Not quite sure what Shoalts was getting at. The cbc was dead in the water after Rogers threw all that dough at bettman and company. They had no rights to anything and hnic as it exists will be gone in 3 more years. All the cockroaches are essentially Rogers employees now. They will be spreading leaf dung for the next 11 years.

    1. The snet crew knew they were raping what was supposedly a national treasure (chest?). The cbc gave it all away. All. Of. It. Multiply the assets on one side and the liabilities/losses on the other and a private conglomerate is sodomizing taxpayers with hint filming it. Some suggest the CRTC should find a way to stop this but they too are bought and sold. (29 may have more CRTC insight).

This is calculated robbery, not to mention that they broadcast their leaf on Saturdays, Sundays and Wednesdays to the detriment of 6 other Canadian hockey teams and Canadian hockey fans at large.

Funnier still is they weep at ratings losses because of leaf losses.

This might sound terrible but......tomorrow is the 'anniversary' of the Sewol Ferry disaster here. I was hop....uh....expecting that they might have some services and whatnot that would result in cancelled classes. But I haven't gotten any word of anything yet (everything is last minute here, though). I can definitely do the 1st period if I wake up early and get to work early (not a problem, I will have Habbies dancing in my sleep all night). And if I start I won't be able to stop. I'll just have it playing on mute on my phone as I "teach" all morning. That's obviously not an ideal way to watch a game, though. Fine for regular season, not so great for a playoff game.

To wade into the HNIC storm here for a second...I grew up in the Laurentian mountains of Quebec (in an English household smack dab in the middle of a quaint French village) so my memories of Habs broadcasts are Danny Gallivan and Dick Irvin. Saturday nights and Wednesday nights mostly. I always hated when the Habs didn't make the Saturday night game (usually as they would be in Vancouver was the only reason). I never rated whoever it was that did the leaf broadcasts (Foster Hewitt/his son?) and could never be bothered to watch the leaf games anyway. As the 80's started I was forced to move to tranna and subjected to Harold Ballard and the joke that was the leaf. I watched Habs games when I could find them and generally had option but to suffer the leaf fools all around me. A lot has changed in the 20 years I've been in the UK but it appears that the leaffools have increased beyond a joke and I do feel sorry for all of you with no other options on game nights but to watch HNIC...Go Habs Go!!

  33. Just watched TSN's Habs/Sens preview. We've already gone through a lot of the word diarrhea above, but a couple of things stand out (and not just with them)

    1) 2:58 into the video after they've only talked about how great Hammond is and what a run the Sens have had (with a couple of off hand remarks about TFS), whatshisname says, "Why aren't we talking about the Sens more? Why not give them more love?" They continue to only talk about the Sens for the rest of the video.

    2) "Montreal can't score!" The Sens had 17 more regular season goals than the Habs. That's about a goal every 5 games. It'd be great to have those, but that's 1-2 extra goals in a 7 game series. That could be the difference, but at the end of the day that was the regular season and it wasn't such a great disparity that it even warrants any mention. But that's the narrative from every source now.

I also read some Sens blogs today because I ran out of Habs things to read. I don't care, obviously they're going to support their own team. But it was kind of sad. "This is such a huge rivalry and it'll just get bigger!" Awwww, that's adorable. You guys think the Sens are even on our radar. "The time we stole the ole chant to mock them is probably the biggest embarrassment in their franchise history!" Huh, guess you guys missed that who Roy debacle. I guess since their little start up is only 22 years old they only know hockey history back to 1993. Funny, most Hab fans' recollection of hockey history ends there (hey, we have to laugh at ourselves, too).

OH MY GOD DROP THE PUCK! GO HABS GO!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. It might also be mentioned here, but the Sens are only letting people in the Capital region buy playoff tickets to ward off their barn becoming flooded with Hab fans (again). EOTP mocked them, and the Sens page response was that they're not the only team to do it. Which of course led to, "I'm glad you're finally accepting the fact that your organization is more like Tampa and Florida than any of the other Canadian teams!"
