Greetings to you friends of peace! That's an opening quote by John Kay from a Steppenwolf Live album I was listening to the other day. They wrote some great protest songs back in the 70's like "Monster".

Loved the vintage pics, it looked like that old prick Clarence Campbell was going to puke handing the Cup over to Captain Beliveau. I can just imagine Buttman's face breaking if he ever had to hand it over the Habs again like back in '93. Do they still make Laurentide biere?

I wanted to reply to moe's response from the previous thread about the league. I'm OK with 30 teams these days, yes the league is watered down, but with the whole world to draw from now there seems to be enough talent to supply that many. I agree 100% the rinks should all be made Olympic sized and said as much back when I was watching the World Championships. The extra room actually allows skilled players that little extra time and space to make plays. Much better hockey to watch rather than this fucking dump and chase bullshit inflicted on teams by coaches like eMpTy, Chokula and Jabba the Hutt in Boston. As far as losing a row or two of ice level seats, charge extra for the ones that are left.

I had an early tee-time this morning in the village of Welsford, about a 45 minute drive north of Saint John. It got warm quick and the black flies were unbelievable! Fortunately I had bug repellent in my golf bag and a breeze came up to settle them down. Shot an 83, my best round so far.

    1. Awesome. My kids tuned me into Nirvana, playing their cassettes in the car on our weekend drives to the country place in Vermont, some songs grew on me. I occaisionally watched Unsolved Mysteries with Robert Stack, they thought it was creepy - then they had a segment on Kurt Cobain, they wouldn't let me change the channel. (I was teasing them about changing to watch something else of course because it I knew they would want to see that lol).
Haven't watched all these yet, but I enjoyed Neil Young, will catch the rest another time.
      Thanks Moeman.

  15. But gCHuck is not ready.

Reinhart is spending much of the offseason training in Buffalo, and Murray doesn't see him starting the year in Rochester, thus answering one of our biggest offseason questions. So it looks like the Sabres will begin next season with a trio of young centers anchoring their top three lines - Girgensons, Eichel, and Reinhart.

  20. 7 eps into OITNB. So far, kind of meh. All the back stories seem frivoulous and unimaginitive. I do like Chang's though...

Want a laugh? Go visit the PPP site and read some comments about what leaf fans think Kessel would fetch in a trade with the Habs. For example, gCHuk, kidG, 2015 1st, 2016 2nd. That, BTW is one trade - not four separate suggestions...

Torrey Mitchell - not a bad signing for a 3rd/4th line guy who can win some important faceoffs. Or was that Flynn? Fuck it's fading - i can't remember the end of the Habs' season...

Go Hawks! Go Canadian Gals Go!

  30. I'm transcribing the latest healy comment here for my own amusement.

"What i want to see from Stamkos tonight , guys, is lots of shots. 13 scoring chances in this series alone. Last game one shot. If he gets six shots in any given game, he's gonna score a goal. That's just what the stats say...analytically based on his shooting percentage."

What amazes me is that our public broadcaster pays these dumb fucks to spew this nonsense. Any one of you or I or a fucking drunk trunk monkey for that matter could sit there and pull random words from our ass and make better sense. I wonder if cbc has filled the Director of Sports position (or whatever it's called) since what's his name left to become commish of the CFL. Might polish up the resume.

  34. 1) Nice SF, sorry I'm so late. Was either out or binge watching OITNB all weekend.

    2) Speaking of which, I enjoyed OITNB S3, but not as much as the others. It certainly suffers from what I call the Walking Dead Syndrome, where the lead character is the most boring. They have set up some intriguing storylines for S4, thought. Just one more year to find out....

    3) Good work Hawks/ Who cares.

    4) N8 and Mitchell signed, that's good. Obviously there's a trade in the works. Kessel won't happen. MT would never play him and he'd fetch too big a price for a benchwarmer. I don't want him, either, but the Habs need SCORING for the love of god.

  35. Congratulations to our ladies soccer team. They did finish first, but they really didn't look all that great in any of their games. It was a pretty evenly matched group, but Canada should have been able to win all three games. They dominated most of them, but they do not look sharp and have no finish.

I've done some research, and have come to the following conclusions about who they will play next:

-They will face the 3rd place team in either Group C/D/E, depending on how all the 3rd place teams end up ranking.

-There are 15 possibilities. 9 out of those would result in Canada playing C3, 3 in D3 and 3 in E3.

-However, the third place team in Group B (Thailand) has a terrible +/-, and therefore is VERY unlikely to move on.

-Taking them out of the equation, Canada has a 4/5 chance at meeting C3 and a 1/5 chance at meeting D3.

-Group D is the Group of Death, and D3 could end up being the US, but more likely Australia or Sweden.

-C3 will likely be Cameroon who are ranked in the 50s (Canada is 7th). But they've played well so far.

And we'll know most of this by tomorrow. Just thought it would be interesting to people.

  36. Way to go Hawks, glad Tampa didn't take it.
I refuse to call them a dynasty - to me, that label belongs to the Canadiens, I don't care what the SFU thinks and what their definition of a dynasty is.

  38. Congrats to the Hawks who show what it takes to win. A total team effort, even when their stars aren't shining.

The SFU is horrible. Strombo did OK in his first season but being surrounded by lunkheads must be excruciatingly annoying. Not a single one has professional talent and more importantly, integrity. Stupid lame-brained comments, disgusting CotU bias, pinheaded rumours, xenophobic rants and mind-bogglingly vapid questions. Cess pool.

    1. When I say "bodes well for the Habs"...I say it in the context of DGMB coming from that place and bringing the same ethos and values to his role with the Habs. It took them some time to build the team they have and if you look at who is on the current roster with the one that one the first one a few years ago, you'll see a core plus a load of add-on players - brought in for a purpose - some who stuck around, some who left. I believe that when the Habs finally get back to the top of the heap, their roster will have a similar look to it...I might be deluded but it's June so I gotta hang my hockey head up for a couple months and get the swimming pool up for the kids. That's all I got for the next little while anyway...Happy Summertime everyone! Go Habs Go!!

GMMB may have come from a great organization and he has some personnel to work with, but there is no one, absolutely no one, on the Habs that can equal the combo of Toews, Kane, Keith, Seabrook and Crawford. This group could easily win a couple more Cups.

      Delete
  40. Congrats to Hawks, as classy a team in the 2st century. Their win proves we are more than a few goal posts from the cup. Tampa is going to be a handful for the next four or five years, Droiun is sitting in the wings. Should we make a big move for him? Tin Tin, Y, DDD our first round pick and a bag of pucks with sunscreen.
