  2. Ugh, still annoying me weeks later. Hodge is suddenly slamming Tampa for banning Hawks jerseys. Funny how no one at TSN picked up on the story when they were doing exactly the same thing to Habs fans.

    1. Saw that, never mentioned it when it was the Habs or that they were banning ticket sales. I think it's pretty disgusting for a franchise to do, esp the ones where the Habs fill their arenas, snowbirds have been spending money in FLA year after year, that is why they schedule games their in the winter.

  4. I don't get it, does this mean the Bulldogs/ Ice Caps are not long the Canadiens?

"This is the latest announcement of local talent that would be added to the Bulldogs from majority owner Andlauer, which also included adding assistant coach Troy Smith, since having considerably more control of decisions now that the 'Dogs are no longer a farm team for the Montreal Canadiens."

    http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/hamilton/news/former-leafs-coach-steve-staios-is-new-hamilton-bulldogs-president-1.3101699

Hamilton Bulldogs majority owner Michael Andlauer announced today that former National Hockey League defenceman and Toronto Maple Leafs manager of player development Steve Staios has been named president of the Ontario Hockey League’s Bulldogs.

Hi juce, the Hamilton Bulldogs are now an OHL junior team no longer affiliated with the Canadiens. Mr. Andlauer retained that particular name when the AHL Bulldogs left town and moved to St. John's NFLD and became the IceCaps. The players may not like it on the Rock but I'll bet they draw much better crowds than they ever did in leaf country. There are many, many Habs fans on the Rock.

Have the Habs picked up any goal scoring yet? If Dish thinks the Habs are a Stanley Cup contender as currently constructed, he is dreaming in technicolor and may be dabbling in Breaking Bad blue meth.

The fried man says leading up to and including draft day there will be lots of trade activity as some teams want to change the make up of their teams. Pittsburgh may be one of them and want back into the first round of the draft after trading their first pick to the Oilers for David Perron. Also, Malkin is not pleased with how the Pens have performed lately. OK MB, you should be all over that. Malkin would be a god in Montreal and have lots of comrades to commensurate with... Vodkov, (Y) and possibly la jeune Nikita not to mention gCHuk. Wait, maybe gCHuk goes the other way. If the Habs are as close to winning it all as some state, then why wait for prospects to develop? With PFK, Price and Max at their prime do it while the window is open.

GO YOU FUCKING HABS GO! LETS SEE SOME ACTION!!

    1. I would make the trade gCHuck for Malkin if we had a coach to back him up. gCHuck can dump and chase just as well as Malkin

  7. Not for Gally, would want KidG too along with 1st round picks up the ass, not to also mention his 9.5M cap hit. Thanks, but no thanks

    ReplyDelete
  8. When Saint Paddy mentioned the possibility of Malkin I really, really didn't see that as happening in a million years. Not that I still don't see it happening, but the fact that this story even came out surprises me. I think the cost would be too high, and the Habs would have to work some magic with the cap as well. It was interesting to read, though, that Geno has said if he wasn't playing for the Pens he'd want to play for the Habs. We'll take a Crosby/Malkin package, no problem! It's interesting to note that if the Pens did want to move Geno he has a no trade clause, and if he would only consider the Habs (and maybe a couple of other teams) that could drive down his asking price a bit. But I still think it's a pipe dream.

Given the price (and the fact that Geno is 29 and has a huge cap hit for years to come), I'd still rather see a deal with the Oil for a younger but maybe not as prolific scorer or two. Who knows what's going to happen in Pittsburgh, though, with the sale of the team coming up. I'm satisfied with trusting the young guys coming up but also adding some established scoring. No need to sell the farm and put all the Russian eggs into one basket. Of course it'd be nice to have a coach that would allow those young guys to play.

If, as some people mentioned, the Habs are close to contending, then Malkin would give them instant credibility. He has also been known to perform better when out from under Crosby's shadow. I would suspect the asking price would be Galchenyuk, Beaulieu and a 1st rounder. I actually think many more names would be involved going both ways with Rick Dudley and Trevor Timmins involved heavily in a trade of this magnitude. Of course this is all probably a pipe dream but that's all part of the fun of being a hockey fan and an armchair GM.

As far as coaching systems, all MB has to say is "we are no longer a dump and chase team" and voila...

I don't read any of the french papers websites, anything interesting going on in those parts?

      Delete
    2. I also too think it is a pipe dream and will make the cap difficult to manage, but if MB is serious about contending for the cup in the next 2-5 years, this is the 'type' of deal that he's going to need the nads to make. And I have a feeling he's becoming a very well respected GM amongst his peers, which can go a long way towards having the faith to make a big trade imho.

  10. Happy Sexy Friday everyone. Realisticly I see no change for our Habs next year. Same team, same coach same style of play, even the owner says we were two goal posts away from the final. We go down this road one more year, I hope we win the cup but if not do not even make the playoffs.

Might as well not even draft this year. Tononto is going to get every good player. The team which has not developed an NHL player with its post first round picks since 2006 is introducing to the draft the overpowering Shanaban method. No longer will leaf picks be based upon a combination of truculennce, low IQ and the best anagram of their name. This year the team that calls itself Canada's team because no one else will, will teach all sports a lesson. The leaf are going to pick the best player available How can any other team in the leauge match that kind of brilliance?

If he is anywhere near as good as McDavid, then the Habs should suck really hard during the 2017-18 season aka the leaf, Oilers, Sabres tank method. I would make DDD play 30 minutes a game that season. The other players can file their nails during the game. Also, pull Price for the entire third period.

I'm sure everyone here reads the fried man's 30 Dumb Thoughts, so what would FHFer's think about his idea that MB should make a trade for..... Mikko Koivu from the Wild? While we wait for Moey to compose herself I did a little research. The younger Koivu, (now 32) a center, is 6'-3" and weighs in at 222 lbs. Not bad, and he should still have a couple good years left in him. Cap-wise he's a little on the steep side, $6.75mil a year for the next 3 years so maybe a smallish center has to go back to Minny...

I think this is doable and would love to see Saku's younger bro in a Habs jersey. If not, I think MB is waiting on his former team to see what they will do for cap relief. Brandon Saad would look good on the wing in Montreal. Hey this is all pure speculation but we have to have something to think about for the next few weeks. Right?

School closed this week due to MERS. Overreaction, but I didn't mind sleeping in. Still have to go in a couple of days this week to supervise kids who have no where else to go, which defeats the purpose but since only old, sick people have been affected by MERS so far it's not really a big deal.

  24. Groups for the 2018 Olympic men's hockey tournament are mostly set. Three more teams will qualify through playoffs. It's a bit different this time around with three groups instead of two. No, they still don't know if NHL players will participate. You can imagine how happy I am about Group A. DESTROY! DESTROY!

    Canada
    S.Korea
    Slovakia
    Switzerland

  25. In other Olympic news, four new events have been added to the 2018 Winter Games.

    1) Snowboard Big Air. Sort of like slopestyle, but just giant jumps. Women haven't really competed yet (they will at the Olympics) but Canada's men have been very good thus far at the X Games where they finished 1-2 this past year. Same guys as slopestyle, McMorris (bronze in slopestyle in Sochi) and Parrot (robbed of medal in Sochi) along with some others.

    2) Speed Skating Mass Start. Sort of like short track, but on the big oval. Canadian Ivanie Blondin has led the women's side for years now. Hopefully she can continue for another 3.

    3) Alpine Team event. Although Canada isn't ranked very high, they did win silver in this event at the last championships in February, and 4th the championships before that.

    4) Mixed doubles curling. More curling! Surprisingly, Canada isn't very dominant in this iteration, though. It's actually pretty different from the regular team curling in that there are only 2 people on a team (1 man, 1 woman) and they throw less stones per end. It's a knockout format instead of round robin-->playoffs, so it can be completed in 2 days. Canada does have the deepest pool of curlers in the world, and now that it's an Olympic event I'm sure our Olympic Committee will work on putting a competent team together. It hasn't really been seen as prestigious before.

So yay! More (probable) medals for Canada! A lot can happen over 3 years, though, and I'm sure other countries will concentrate on these events more now, too. But at least it's not more cross country skiing or biathlon events where we realistically have no chance.

Great teams have great management, add some luck and presto-chango, the Silver Mug is yours. Too many teams. Not harking for the original 6 but at least 6 teams too many waters down the skill level. Players are much bigger and faster so make the rinks bigger. Drop the cheap penalties. Have the refs learn what integrity is. What ever happened to re alignment and rivalries? Pure bullshit. This Finals is the best the game has to offer? As I lifelong fan of the great game when it is great, I am bored. End it already.
