  1. Nice SF, as usual moe.

Today was my last day at this job. 4 years and many memories. I'd say I'm not the sentimental type, but I tear up when I finish a long standing ketchup bottle. You served me well, brother. Several kids came rushing in as I left to give me a card made out of candy. That was...nice...sniffle....

  2. I see you have a picture of De Grasse here. Our next track superstar (we have many now, it's amazing). Some of you might have heard that our 4x100m team broke the Pan Am record to win gold last weekend, only to be DQ'd after the Americans protested TWICE. Their first one was denied, but they submitted again and won. The great infraction was a toe on the line when no one was around. Now, I could provide video of the last world championships when the USA literally ran into the Jamaican lane and actually bumped Usain Bolt (who won anyway, because he's goddamn Usain Bolt), and they were not DQ'd. I could show the US team running in someone else's lane during the semifinals. I could show the rule that any protest not immediately submitted is legally ignored, not 2 hours after a race. I could point out that the toe on the line is not an infraction unless the runner interferes with his neighbour, which Canada did not do.

I could do all of that. Instead, I will leave it to the great Donovan Bailey: "Anyone you beat has the ability to protest, and the US has been quite famous for doing that when they don't win,"

Bonus points: Ben Johnson got his gold stripped from him, but did you know Carl Lewis (American "great", finished 2nd) had his coach and his best friend involved in the testing (illegal). And while he has been proven to be a drug cheat including in 1988, he hasn't had any of his medals taken away.

Several athletes in various events were DQ'd for several reasons at the Pan Ams. Two Americans were. They were both reinstated (while the decisions against the Canadians was illegible for appeal). In one case an American swimmer was DQ'd for taping his fingers together. When he found out after the race he laughed and showed the camera. He ended up getting his medal. On the same day a Canadian swimmer upset an American favourite, and so did a Brazilian in another race. Both were DQ'd for murky reasons so the USA got gold. No appeal allowed. The Brazilian refused to swim again. Our Canadian girl went out the next night and beat the same American again and won the gold.

What I'm saying is, it's hard to be a sports fan sometimes. It's not just the NHL.

  3. And finally, Beijing won the 2022 Winter Olympics tonight. No, they don't have snow. No, they don't have mountains. Their only competitor was Almaty, Kazahkstan, though. As corrupt as the IOC is, they knew to steer clear of that horse pile. So that's 3 Olympics in a row in East Asia. Pyeongchang, Tokyo, Beijing. I'm moving to China in September, so yay! I guess.

Toronto will probably bid for 2024. They should get it, North America hasn't had the Summer Games since 1996. But LA might bid now that Boston's out. Either way, Paris is the early favourite.

  4. Nice SF Moeman, I like those long horizontal palm trees with girls on them.
I have to say I am most impressed that DDD has taken his training to another level.

  6. I heard a presser the Galchenyuk on 690, he said the bridge deal was his idea and doesn't know where he'll play next season, but admits he's open to anything, including playing alongside Alexander Semin.

"At center or on the wing, I'm comfortable playing either, I'll play wherever I'm needed to help the team," said Galchenyuk. "I would definitely love to play with him (Semin). He's a skilled player and over the years he has shown that he can score a lot of goals."

Re: Orangeman's excellent rant above. In 1984, Canadian Olympic boxers Willie DeWit and Sean O'Sullivan got fucked and robbed by IOC judges. I have refused to watch Summer Games or Pan Am competitions since. The USA are the best cheaters in the world bar none. They should be always be awarded gold medals in any event every time. I don't know why other countries even bother with this stuff any more.

  19. I harbour no ill will towards the Bluejays. And undoubtedly, by all accounts they were the big FA movers, picking up their own lesser TFS. I haven't had more than half an eye on baseball since the Expos' demise, but should the jays ever do well and make the playoffs i wouldn't cheer against them (nor for them, but you know what i'm saying).

However, the goddamned media is trying their best to make me hate them. I know - it's baseball season and that is the only sport in existence at this time because it's the only sport with a Tronna franchise that is worth speaking about. *I have no idea what the Argos or TFC are doing. Back on point, there was a time I didn't 'hate' the wretched leaf. And it's the media's constant splooging over them that has made us all hate that franchise, continually shovelling their leaf compost shit at us hoping it sticks to a few of the lesser intelligent beings. Now it's the same thing with the jays. I can't turn on SN or TSN to see sports hilites (I like to know what's going on in Australian Rules football) without 15 minutes being spent on the summer blue and white team. Well just fuck off - i don't care.

To be truthful, if the Expos are ever reincarnated, I'm not sure if I jump back into baseball. The way they were so royally screwed still hurts.

    Malkin a Hab yet?

I'm right there with you. No ill will but STFU SFU.

      I miss the 'spos.

Jays may be better but I have no feel for them.

Regardless, bball for me is about great pitching. Their TFS is one of the best.

Nice that a cat from Montreal is running that joint.

  20. From Vegas Wants Hockey:

"We are pleased to report that the NHL has invited us to participate in Phase II of the application process. In this phase, we will be providing the League with additional information requested by it, including information about the Las Vegas market. We will also be permitted access to information provided by the League that it deems important to us. We are hopeful that at the conclusion of this phase the league will invite us to participate in Phase III."

No invitation for Quebec...hmm I guess Bettman has invited them to give them everything they need to gain an advantage and the leverage to ensure they get their team.

  21. "With approximately $30 million in tournament earnings - the highest total in history - Canadian poker star Daniel Negreanu wants to put some of his fortune towards buying a slice of Bill Foley's Las Vegas NHL franchise."

A gambler wanting to invest in a Las Vegas team,. not that's irony.

  22. According to tsn, Quebec has also been invited.

  23. "I just don't see it not happening. We have a solid owner, an arena (nearing completion on the Strip with 17,500 seats for hockey) and we sold 13,000 season tickets," Negreanu said.

"Vegas has 2.2 million people. It's a sports town. We've been starving for a professional franchise of any kind for many years."

Las Vegas could potentially have a team in place for as early as the 2016-17 season.

"It won't take us as long to build a winner as people think," Negreanu said. "I'd bet on the playoffs in four or five years."

This guy sounds just like a leaf fan.

  25. Police in Western New York are reportedly investigating Chicago Blackhawks forward Patrick Kane.

The star winger is the subject of a rape investigation in Hamburg, N.Y., according to a report by the Buffalo News.

"A local woman has reportedly accused Kane of a sexual assault. Law enforcement sources told the publication that the woman went to a hospital and underwent a sexual assault forensic exam following an alleged incident last weekend.

    No charges have been filed."
