RIP Jimmy Roberts. No. 6 was the unsung hero of the Habs 70's Cup run.

R.I.P. He was a Scotty Bowman favourite. Played for him in St. Louis in the first expansion, pretty sure the Habs traded for him 'cause Scotty wanted him. A great checker.

    4. Roberts won the Stanley Cup five times (1965, 1966, 1973, 1976, 1977) as a member of the Montreal Canadiens, and on three occasions was selected an NHL all-star (1965, 1969, 1970).

Roberts played in 1,159 NHL games, including 447 with the Blues, before retiring in St. Louis at the conclusion of 1977-78. He spent 15 seasons in the NHL with the Canadiens and Blues. He would later coach the Buffalo Sabres (1981-82), Hartford Whalers (1991-92) and Blues (1996-97).

Prior to playing in the NHL, Roberts had Scotty Bowman as his coach with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey Association. He also spent time in the Eastern Professional Hockey League with the Montreal Royals and Hull-Ottawa Canadiens before joining the Cleveland Barons in the American Hockey League in 1962-63.

  2. The Montreal Canadiens can do no wrong, on or off the ice.

Carey Price and CCM sent a massive donation this week to Williams Lake, British Columbia, where Price grew up playing hockey, writes The Williams Lake Tribune's Greg Sabotino.

Thousands of dollars worth of equipment now fills Williams Lake Minor Hockey office administrator Pam Povelofskie's office.

"It's a good mess," she said. "I love it."

Price grew up five hours away in Anahim Lake, and his father, Jerry, organized the donation, saying it was something his son wanted to do.

"I'm very humbled Jerry and Carey and CCM still think of Williams Lake Minor Hockey," said Todd Isnardy, who serves as a coordinator for the Williams Lake Minor Hockey Association.

The donation includes goalie equipment, hockey sticks, and other gear, and will be distributed across the community.

  5. Not sure if I mentioned this on here before. Less than a month into my time with the Ministry of Transportation and Highways in 1990, I was sent on a task to collect some traffic data. I was based in Prince George, BC and the traffic count was in Bella Coola. Me and a small Saudi man named Nisar (and his wife) left PG at 7am (after they insisted I have some of their sweet tea when i picked them up - not a fan). Anyway Anahim Lake is on the route (a 9 hour drive!) and I remember driving through that community (probably sometime around 2pm). Quite a drive for a redneck from NB where a 3 hour drive is considered extremely long and needs weeks of planning. At the end of it, there was a long descent including traversing several switchbacks down the side of a mountain. I did all the driving...did not trust the small Saudi man. Got there in time (around 4pm) to get our evening count. I counted more cattle than vehicles on the road. Pretty sure I was punked hard. My supervisor and manager never admitted to it, but also never explained why I had to do that. Anyway, that was my one time (well 2 including the return trip) through Carey's hometown. It's absolutely amazing that he was able to not only succeed but excel at his craft considering the geographic challenges alone. Jerry Price should get the 'best dad in the world' award for learning to fly and buying a plane to help Carey achieve his dreams. Living very near Cole Harbour, I can tell you Sid's dad doesn't hold a candle and is basically a giant douche. Which actually makes it all the more impressive that Sid is actually a really great person too.

Anyway, enjoy the game tonight folks. I might check out Interstellar or The Imitation Game if I can take over my TV from the hoard of teenagers playing some creepy video game in my theatre.

Both movies are very good, I would rate The Imitation Game slightly higher as it is based on a true story. Interstellar was a fascinating study of Einstein's theory of relativity. You can't lose.

I need some help. My cold has passed and my foot and knee are finally pain free. I feel like drinking something, Gibsons Finest, single malt scotch or.....beer? I have Alpine, Smithwick's, Harp, Grolsch or Guinness. Suggestions?

Beauty goal by #22, no not Steve Shutt. Boys a little lackadaisical in that period, lots of run and gun. Hopefully they got that out of their system. On thing I will say, Buffalo is miles ahead of the fucking putrid leaf in their rebuild. Eichel is really good, better than leaf stiffs marner and overlander. Once the Sabres find a decent goalie they will be dangerous.

Ugh bjsuck is on the Rogers panel tonight..... *mute*

    1. Kane+Reinhart+ Eichel is some fast, skilled hockey.

Minimarner and prettyboylander will be busts but the do have the genius of Babscock to rely on.

Errol has got to stop taking those big hits, he'll have a short career otherwise.

BTW, I went with the Gibsons.....sip.

  26. Hey kidz! Yours truly is in the belly of the SFU beast - Tronna, for a thing. Currently stuck watching the Jays but it looks like the boys (and the PP!) are talking care of business

I will enjoy watching Habs Leafs here tomorrow (assuming there is no game 7...)

Last Wednesday the Sabres beat the leaf 2-1 and the SFU papers all said it was another "moral victory" for the leaf and the mighty Babscock had them playing the right way. So, the leaf were awesome losing to a young Sabres team still finding their way. Wonder what they will think of the Habs absolutely destroying the same Sabres?

I kinda wish the boys had saved some of this for tomorrow night. I would love to see the Habs embarrass the putrid leaf on hnic across the nation.

  37. Yay! What else is there left to say? Maybe this:

    "Condom tops Johnson"
    "Johnson soft, Condom strong"
    "Condom stops rising Johnson"

    And so forth.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I'm just glad we didn't see:

"Semin in Box as Johnson breaks through Condon"

  39. And also, that Eichel guy is really really good. I dread the day he has actual competent linemates to work his magic with. Get out of our division!

  41. It was a great night of sport last night...Habs win big, Jays lose. I am happy because this was the kind of game the Habs lost last year. They would break out a nice lead then we'd think they were home and dry. Suddenly the Sabres come back to tie it up. Lastbyearbthey went into a shell and the game would either go to OT or a shootout or they lose in the third period. This year, not so much. Buffalo got back into the game then the Habs woke the fuck up and put it away. They found the gear they were missing last year. Plus, last year with Toker in the nets, they lose this game. I really like Condon and you can see he is trying really hard to improve. The second goal he was pissed at because he slid over with his pads open and he knew it when he got beat - that goal was on him. Sure he got lucky with a couple of posts but he also came up big with some saves that I don't think Toker makes. It's too early to say anything but ONE GAME AT A TIME BOYS. And tonight - against the fucking leaf...it's just another game. Play the game the way you have and all will be good in the end. Baring an injury last night - and it did look like there was some dirty shit happening, I expect an unchanged squad...except for TFS obviously. But Dish took a hit to the head from that fuck ex leaf Franson so hopefully he'll be ok. Mitch played the rest of the game after being crunched in the first so hopefully he's ok too. KidA took a seriously heavy PFK slapped to the gut too - so he'll have a bruise but be ready to go. JUST FUCKING WIN BOYS!

  42. Had to pvr this one. My daughter was in town for a symposium on aboriginal education which included guest speaker Paul Martin. I didn't know she was here and she planned to surprise which she totally did. We went out for dinner and I watched the game when we got home. The General's pretty good for an 'old man' eh? Looking forward to tonight. GYMFHG!
