  2. Life is good, glad to see Blue Jays doing well, not my sport but I love a whole city catching a buzz. I have stopped plottting to spike the water supply with acid. Canada is on the verge of being returned to the people. Justin is a leader you can love, please dont break my heart buddy. Our team looks fucking awesome. And on a personal note something I have been doing is reversing the aging process. In the last two months my hair has gone from silver fox to partridge salt and pepper. Proving once again I am a freak of nature.

Go Habs Go, Kodi willing I will be on board for tonites game.

  3. This just in, Getzlaf will be joining Stinkos as the newest leaf free agent signings. On paper Toronto has an unbelievable team, on the ice its the same. The only team in the league that has a traffice cone for capitian.

  4. I realize that there aren't many baseball fans here, and those that do follow a bit seem to hate the Jays. However....

    WOOHOO!

I don't hate Toronto as a city. I don't like it as a city, either. But I don't hate the Jays just because they're in Toronto. I do like baseball, was quite the base hitter in my day (and a quality 3rd baseman, if I don't say so myself). After my beloved Expos left Montreal I just followed baseball as a sport, with no preferred team. However, due to geography I did end up following the Jays more than others.

It's not life or death (i.e. Habs), but I am fully on the bandwagon. I watched their games when I was visiting in August and they really are a good team. I got to see a few games in 92-93 live when they had a great team, too. If you're a baseball fan it's hard not to get excited by exceptional teams like this. There's something special about them, like those teams in the early 90s.

Anyway, after watching this series it's clear that the NHL isn't the only league with officiating problems/obvious corruption. The huge example from last night was when the Jays catcher threw the ball back to the mound, but it was deflected by the Rangers' bat. The runner scored from 3rd. The home ump immediately called the play dead and the Jays didn't react. Then they decided that it shouldn't have been called dead (but it should have!) so the run counted. Imagine in hockey the ref calling the puck dead, only for someone to put it in 5 seconds later. Even if it shouldn't have been called dead, that's unfair because the team stopped playing. You have to stick with that call. But apparently umps can make things up on a whim, just like the strike zone in game 2 of this series.

Anyway, I'm not convincing anyone to get on the Blue Jays bandwagon. I'm just pointing out how corrupt all the sports leagues are getting the more money that's on the line. Sometimes we get stuck in hockey, which admittedly is the most corrupt. But basically, mo money, mo problems.

    GO HABS GO!

  5. What's that? The Habs are undefeated after 4 road games to start the season? The Oilers are still struggling despite yet another 1st round pick? The Sens blew out their opponent last night?

No, no, no. Lead story on TSN is about Babs implementing 40 second shifts on his winless and totally inept squad. Becaus that's news!

    1. Reading the news about the leaf, you would think Babkook had inherited a team of pee wees and he is now teaching them the fundmentals of the game. There is this thing called cylcing the puck in hockey, invented yesterday by Babkook.

      Delete
    2. This is what Jack Todd has been talking about. Babs is the most overrated coach in the NHL. People pin him up there with Bowman, Irvin et al.. But really, the guy has won ONE Stanley Cup on a franchise that perhaps should have won more, got 2 golds with Canadian teams that I could have coached to golds and isn't even on the top 10 wins list all time. The guy is good, in that he provides structure and discipline. But he's hardly revolutionary. I would have been happy if he was with the Habs because he would have allowed the best players to be the best players. But I don't think he alone would have turned the team into a Cup winner. Is he an improvement over what the leaf had? Sure, but that's like saying I'm a better teacher than a rabid wolf. Faint praise.

He's a good coach. Maybe he's a great coach. But he made sure we'll never find out in Toronto. And if he was a great coach, he wouldn't be hiding in Toronto. He'd be making a good team great. He's already made his legacy in that decision.

  10. Won't be up for the game. Been preparing a presentation for tomorrow's class all day. Did you know English is sometimes used in East Asia as an indicator of social status? You did? Well, let me continue for the next 30 minutes and tell you about Marx, Bourdieu and McLuhan (The medium is the message- it's a part of our heritage!).

Side note: When I was studying in Amsterdam years ago (my life sounds more interesting than it really is. Either that or I've become desensitized) I was talking about the media coverage of the Iraq war when my Euro prof yelled out, "You Canadians and you're 'the medium is the message!'" I hadn't read any McLuhan up to that point, but it's interesting how our identities are apparently shaped by our nationality. Either that or I'm still thinking too much about this shit.

Anyway, the point is I've gotten drunk after that marathon of book-readin'. Which means I won't be up for the game, and then I have meetings and then class. Afterwards we're going to play mahjong, an ancient (100 years old) Chinese game. You rent a room and the table is mechanical and shuffles and deals the tiles for you. Gambling and pretty ladies are involved (at least for me). Considering all the hangovers and debts I'll have to pay off by cutting off the thumbs of random farmers here, I'll be watching the game by Christmas. Also, I'm a bit tipsy. Did I mention that?

Remember, the medium is the message. And the audience is the content. Which I think means you're all drunk, too.

$3 Chinese booze is a hell of a drug.

  12. To O-man's point above about the jays, i too harbour no ill-will towards them. Don't care if they win or lose, and if they do, good for them. But the disdain I do have towards them is the amount of coverage they get from the SFU. Game 4 for example was over for over an hour and I tuned in to watch WSOP but they were STILL yakking on and on about the Jays. The benefit is that it has reduced the amount of nonsense about the wretched leaf we have to hear, but I fear that will just be condensed into a shorter timeline whenever the jays are finished. And looking for some great stories about a Canadian team off to a great 4-0 start. Don't look at tsn, SN or cbc.

Hey, JT's ad is on again where he's at the podium saying "it's time for a change...the economy depends on you, etc etc" you know the one? Anybody else reminded of "My name is Joe! And I AM CANADIAN!"?

    ANyway go HABS!

24 – Rank Tomas Plekanec now occupies on the Canadiens’ all-time games played list alongside Bernard “Boom Boom” Geoffrion after suiting up for his 766th career game on Thursday night. The veteran centerman is in the midst of his 11th full-time NHL campaign, all with the CH.
