  1. Yay, I made the front page! And 69 related, no less. Coincidentally (or is it?) the year I was born.

Regarding the Outdoor Alumni game from the previous thread:

    moeman 8:06 PM
Hal Gill should switch teams at the half way point.

Fantastic idea! Even better idea though would be a trade - Gill for Quintal. That would be hilarious.
I'm going to pitch the idea to the teams.

Meanwhile in COTU they're butt hurt that the Laffs have been eclipsed by the Rags and Habs as the NHL's most valuable teams.
    http://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/2015/11/24/maple-leafs-no-longer-nhls-most-valuable-franchise-according-to-forbes.html

Richard Peddie, former chief executive officer of Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment, said he believes the Rangers advanced on the strength of the U.S. dollar and a recent $1 billion investment by the corporation that owns them in refurbishing Madison Square Garden.

“Montreal, I don’t believe (the ranking) for a second,” said Peddie, who believes the Leafs will be back at No. 1 in time, “with an improved team and a new CEO that worries about increasing the bottom line.”

    ...

“Although Montreal is a much smaller market than Toronto, the Canadiens’ television audience is often 20 per cent greater than the Leafs, when you include both the English and French language channels,” Forbes wrote.

Now imagine if the Leafs weren't gifted the first game of the Saturday night double header...every...fucking...week. Oh and fuck you Richard Peddie (and Kerry Fraser)

Apparently, Ottawa mayor suggested that losing Grey Cup city mayor should wear a laffs jersey for a day. Unfortunately it didn't come to fruition. The SFU reaction would have been priceless

Habs vs. Rangers. NHL's top 2 teams. One Canadian. They lead off with 7 minutes of raptors then go straight to the supposedly injured goalie of their putrid yet structured leaf. Top 2 NHL teams. One of them the Habs. SFUckers.

Three fucking penalties in a row buttman must be in the building trying to get his Rags a win.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You know what's funny. In games like this, where one team is given every chance to win by the officials, it's always interesting how the penalties suddenly stop when they score. So suddenly the Habs are playing disciplined hockey, when every time they were within 5 feet of a Rag was a penalty up to that goal?

Interesting rumours on the internet regarding Sid being unhappy. It's not unheard of for players of certain stature to force a trade to where they want to go. Rick Nash, Martin St. Louis come to mind recently and of course who could forget Saint Patrick's big Fuck You to Tremblay and Corey with poor Peanut Houle getting literally peanuts for him. Food for thought. MB's got the balls to do it too.

  67. I've been saying it, Rangers' record was deceiving. They were playing mediocre teams mostly at home, and were still getting outplayed.

  68. Blob M referred to either Dallas or the Rags as an 'offensive juggernaut' yesterday? even though the Canadiens had more goals wirh 78GF, Dallas with 74GF and Rags with 66GF. I know I'm a bit mathematically challenged, but even I can cipher that, how do the SFU have no shame?

That game last night... two words come to mind about the Habs from start to finish: "business like". No over the top goal celebrations, just a quick gathering - good job fellas - then back to the dot and lets go. Other than a little flurry at the end of the first and when the refs tried like hell to get the Rags back in it in the second the Habs dominated. End of story. I feel they are on a mission. The young core of Price Patches Subban Petry and the indefatigable kidG(A) know they are good enough to win. They are out to prove it.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Here's the NHL's stats for attendance this year:

    http://espn.go.com/nhl/attendance

Habs are second yet again behind "109.7%" Chicago. I'm sorry, but if your building has had 110% capacity for 20 years then I think it's time to just say that's just 100%. We see what you're doing, Blackhawks. And those stands will be empty again in 3 years when your core is completely gone and/or old. It's also laughable that Toronto is at 102% when you watch any of their games and the lower bowl is half empty the entire time.

Anyway, the interesting point is that when the Habs are the road team attendance is at 99.5%, significantly higher than "Canada's Team" the leaf. Total attendance is 4th, just behind The Cup Champs and their inflated %, the Rangers (New Yorker assholes are everywhere) and Sidney Crosby.

  74. From "Habs Hater" Puck Daddy:
The 10 Most Pleasant Surprises of the NHL Season:

    "7. Tryouts Work Out

For many veteran players in a capped league, a professional tryout contract is their best last resort. And for Scott Gomez, Martin Havlat, Brad Boyes, Lee Stempniak, Dainius Zubrus and others, it’s been a banner year for familiar faces getting another chance on the cheap."

No mention of Yeast (is that what we're calling him? Flash?) who has the same amount of goals as all the other guys combined. Not to mention a couple of those guys were total busts and only played a couple of games.

    "3. The Dallas Offense

While the rest of the league contemplates smaller goalies and bigger nets, the Stars just keep scoring. Jamie Benn has 16 goals, Tyler Seguin has 12 and Patrick Sharp and Jason Spezza have eight each. Jordie Benn is the only Dallas player to have played at least 10 games and not have a goal. We love this team."

Right, so the playoff team that had the least amount of goals last year and now has the most in the league this season is not a 'surprise'.

Oh, wait, I get it. He said 'pleasant surprise'. Nothing about the Montreal doing well is pleasant to this Hab hating idiot.

  76. Still no internet for me as the house repairs are still going - hoping to have it back by the weekend. From what I have seen and read, the Habs looked good last night. Rangers - not so much! Tough news on TFS - maybe he came back too soon after Condom played like a rookie all of the sudden. Hope it was just a precaution. I'm reading about possible trades for another veteran goalie if TFS goes out long term...don't know about that - anyone good would cost too much I would have thought. I watched some highlights earlier and Lego looked really strong on a couple of plays. Hard to get a true feel on those clips however. And DSP looks like a machine! I loved his quote about replacing KidA - something about standing in front of the opponent's net, getting hit all over the place and just smiling and waving! Over all I think that this team is for real. GO You Fucking Habs Go!

OK so here's a fun little article from our SFUcker friends at snet, the top 5 scorers from the 2012 draft.
    5. Morgan Reilly the next Bobby Orr...

    1. Alex Galchenyuk who is, and I quote: "a useful forward" Does that make him almost as good as Dive Artist Supreme Kadri?

Where do they find these asshole writers up there in t.o.?

    ReplyDelete
  82. Regarding Bud's nickname the Buddy Holly angle is good. Holly? Spud is ok, but he's not an islander. G3 might be bad mojo considering RG3 (for those that follow nfl). There's the fact that the movie/play The Madness of King George is based on George III. Madman? or what about just III? If he scores it could be III!!!

Anyway, get to 100% TFS. No rush - lots of points in the bank.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Just to go back to moe's comment about Reimer. I agree the Habs don't need him. However, Reimer is actually not a bad goalie. He's like Luongo, although not nearly as talented. I mean, he just can't perform in big games and often lets in a goal at the worst time. But in general he's an okay goalie. Serviceable, if you will. Which makes Babs and the leaf look like bigger fools for consistently choosing Bernier over him. Bernier is not a good goalie. Like...at all. Perhaps as a back up to an all start who will see 10-15 games against weak opponent per year. So what he was doing in LA. But as usual, the leaf overpaid for him and now feel the need to force his square peg into a round hole. What boggles my mind is why Reimer has agreed to stay in Toronto with the fans, management, coaching staff and teammates constantly throwing him under the bus. He's still probably just a back up, but could play around 30 good games per year. Maybe even a starter on a bad team (like the leaf). He carried them on his back for most of the last few seasons, even getting them to G7 against the broons. Yeah, he will never get a team much farther but he's still eons ahead of Bernier.

Anyway, my two cents. Still, Habs don't need him. Get a right winger if you're going to get anybody.
