What's for dinner? ~ Habs vs. Tampa Game 37

'Twas the night after Christmas, when all over the ice
Not a player was scoring, just one would be nice
The sticks were all stacked behind the benches with care,
In hopes that a magic one would be there;
The boxing day hangover cured with pure legal meds;
While visions of being traded danced in their heads;
Then with MT's thinning hair, I watched the caps,
Take it to the Habs, save a few little scraps,
When out on the rink, they cut the Caps lead in half,
It was Otto again, you just gotta laugh.
The Sheik kept them in it, shooting his pads like a flash,
While getting peppered, still cleaning up the trash,
But how it was to end I think we all know,
Not enough goals for one team to show
So they're off to Tampa and F.L.A.
I can't imagine what eMTy might say,
Is MB working on his own magic trick
Perhaps it's (Y) for a 3rd round pick,
Nobody's safe and all are to blame,
And MT whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
"Now, Patches! now, PK! now Markie and Eller!
On, Chucky! on, Petry! on, Condan and that other feller!
To be continued...or not.

    In the midst of a Star Wars marathon. Just finished Ep2. FF'd through much of the awkward broody Skywalker stuff to make it palatable.

    Got Sweet Georgia Brown now stuck in my head. I could think of worse things.

  19. My co-watchers crapped out on me. Was watching with my daughter and a hoard of her friends. Watched 1,2,4,5...then they decided they'd go the the 11pm showing tonight. So good news is I get to see the game. Was surprised to see the Barberio/Plaid pairing there and pleased to see Ghetto back in. Maybe I'll watch Return of the Jedi after the game...on vacation this week.

    How about Conan? Conan the Barberio. Would have been awesome to see him score there.
    Reminds me there was an old guy at work...just retired a few months back, always referred to the little fuckety fuck as Mike Riberio.

    1) Habs score first? What is this wizardry?

    2) How is it possible to delay a game when the buzzer went (or is less than a second from going?)

    3) Condon is doing good!

    4) And then he scores on himself.

    5) Habs score a second goal? What is this wizardry?

    6) Ah, now into a Chocula like shell.

  31. Love the graphic SN just showed about TOI and points since KidG went down. 7th in TOI, yet 1st (by far) in points. I wonder if MT is even aware of this. I wonder if he cares.

  32. Hell of a period by Willie Warmer, despite the 'own goal'. Nice to see gCHuk get on the scoreboard. Yes O-man I saw that graphic too and thought OK, MT has cited his concern with gCHuk's defensive play, but (and I'm not comparing skills here) but players like Ovie, Stamkos, Malkin have all been given the chance to excel and improve by playing and learning from your mistakes. When you have one player who is obviously more offensively gifted than the rest of your team and your team is lucky to score a goal per game, perhaps it's time to give that player some more ice time?"

    But what do we know I guess.

  64. To the top of the circle! to the top of the crease!
    Now hack away! hack away! hack away please!"
    It's easy to get into Ben Bishflop's head,
    So rather than skate by, nudge him instead;
    The boys laced 'em up with a different scenario,
    with the most recent call-up of one Mark Barberio :)
    And back to the Rock, Toker is sad
    In has place Scrivens, the Cornell grad
    Some of the maligned finally scored
    gCHuk, SuperPlexxe and CHippy on the board
    Two coaches' challenge Holy Cripes,
    As I watch the head scratching by the men in stripes
    At least a point in T Bay as they head to OT
    Patches with the winner and off to Sunrise with glee!

    I declare this slump officially BUSTED.

  68. Got lost down the youtube hole tonight as you do when you partake in overdue holiday cheer. I ended up watching Team Canada's team selection for the 2014 Olympics. I had listened to it on the radio at 2am when it happened originally.

    Confession. I had no idea Patrick Sharp was on the team. Moreover, I had no idea that Patrick Sharp was Canadian. Totally thought he was Swedish. Maybe that's due to his dreamy eyes? So similar to Lundqvist?

    But seriously. This guy could have been on the wing for Montreal this year. Dreamy eyes and all.

  70. The announcer guy (I'm terrible with names, but these guys used to do the Habs radio, and I enjoy them, much better than the corporate anti-Hab usuals). Anyway, the color commentator guy said rightfully that Bishop is so big that he leans into the open ice. Players can't be responsible for that.

    I didn't think the TB goal should have been called back, and there was no way they were going to call this one back since it was basically the exact same thing.

    Good on Weise for forcing them to play it back after the whistle to call it a goal. Toronto is supposed to look at every close-call and automatically call it back, even when play is still going on. But we all know about the "war-room" aka "Retirement home for leaf/bruin rejects". They ended up making the right call, and the refs ended up making the right call on the challenges. I'd say it was finally a win for the league, except for that obvious make-up call on Mitchell late in the game. This is what drives me crazy: You let them play....and then BOOM. Random call! TB guy could have just as easily been called for holding the stick. Or, you know, you could have been cool and not called anything, like an unbiased observer.

    1. What also got me was the PleXXXe delay of game.

      Delete
    2. I think I said above, how can you delay the game at the end of a period? I get it's an automatic rule, but the puck is going out of play as the buzzer is going. If not, why wasn't there a faceoff afterwards?

      IT MAKES NO SENSE PEOPLE!

      But it won't be talked about because it was against the Habs. If it was the other way, you bet it would be on every site and every broadcast. Still in the youtube hole, got on TSN and others screaming about the disallowed TB goal 2 years ago in the playoffs where Ron McLean said French refs shouldn't officiate Montreal games. No mention of Ontario refs and the leaf. No mention of the guy flying into Price to begin with to take him out of the play before the goal, that should have been a penalty to begin with. Nope, it's always Montreal's fault. They deserve it.
