  1. Love it!! Farm Film Celebrity Blow-up, n'est-ce pas? Blowing up Denny Therien was most sublime. Flaherty was never funnier than paired with the great John Candy.

On last night: there is no doubt the coaching staff is completely out of answers. They had 5% of the hockey IQ required to compete at this level, and they used it up in their first season. If eMTy is the guy you want in the foxhole with you, then you need to speak to someone about those suicidal tendencies you're delusional about.

For that matter, having recently found myself ensconced with Transparent, I think someone with better Photoshopping skills than me should work with DGMB and the Jeffery Tambor character (Maura).

Around these here parts we call it PhotoCHopping. I'll keep it in mind.

  2. I might add that Vodkov should sit tonight for Emelin. Give him a rest. Beaulieu too, for Pateryn. And a CHarger reclamation project would be wicked, except I suppose the cap hit of 900,000 is what makes it a no-go. But seeing nobody get even a tad upset about the gutless knee-on-knee on LessIsMore...? -_-

What a sad sad unimaginative dull stupid boring display.
This coaching staff is unmotivational uncreative and just obviously out of luck, never mind answers.
    I've never been a MT2.0 fan.
DGMB prob backed the wrong horse in MT2.0.
Management can't manage and be palse walse at the same time.
The season is lost. We're all going to die.

  9. I hope the crowd at the Bell Centre are unforgiving. I never supported booing even in the darkest years because I actually did believe everyone was doing their best, it was just that they either didnt have the skill or were completely incompetent. But now, screw it. Every time I see either MT or MB on the screen I feel insulted. Theyve turned this once great franchise into the Montreal Toronto Maple Leafs, where cronyism is the way and no one cares because everyone still makes ridiculous amounts of money. Fuck em.

  10. Asked why he had Eller, Weise and Fleischmann on the PP, eMTpy said sometimes you don't have a choice, you have to make decisions to create energy. Whut???????? They had just over 7 mins to the game when they got the 5min PP, you decide you should wait till the last 7 mins to 'create energy'??

I shudder to think where the Habs would be without Subban. 30 minutes a game. Who carries those minutes? Leading scorer. Top plus minus.

    1. DDD was on for over 4 minutes of the 5 min PP and did sweet fuck all.

The other big glaring coaching fuck up, outside of the dump and chase, is the team plays most of the game along the boards (=zero use of creativity) and FWIW, the once stellar penalty kill looked totally lost on the PHI PP. PHI was constantly moving the puck in all directions and of course fed their man who was standing in the crease.

I don't see or hear Francois Gagnon very often so I listened to the podcast on TSN 690 re: trading pieces. He never advocates trading PK but says MB is in no position to not at least listen to calls for anyone or anybody. Maybe it's time to consider moving out some of the core. They aren't winning and show no signs of ever doing so again. Is it the coach? Maybe. They need to keep Price and Subban, after that anybody is game. The NUMBER ONE priority is get a NUMBER ONE CENTER. That's it. Build from there.

I didn't watch the game but you have to wonder how long Molson will allow this to go on. It's getting bloody embarrassing.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Reading all over the interwebs, people seem to have accepted that the tank is on. Habs looking good for a top 5 pick. The strange thing to me is everyone assumes that MT is gone in the summer. I ask, why would you assume that? In fact, I'm assuming he's not gone. Price's injury will be blamed, and you know MB is explaining to Molson that the tank is intentionally and the only way they can get talent because trades are HARD. This isn't Playstation you know! WAAAH!

So even with the top pick, what does it matter if MT is still the coach? In his 4th year Galchenyuk is still playing less minutes than DDD and Weise, and is still on the wing. He's second wave PP and gets benched for any slight mistake. Do we really think another top 3 pick will save this team, especially right away?

Barberio sat tonight for Emelin and Gilbert. These coaches have no idea how to recognize, encourage or develop young guys. No one is going anywhere at the deadline, or in the summer. But Price will come back and win a few games so everything will be 'fixed'.

Not trying to be an over dramatic pessimist, but I gave up on this season long ago and didn't really care anymore. But now that I'm thinking about the future it gets even more depressing. We think it's dark now? Wait till Price, PK, Max, Gally and CHucky are all gone due to injuries, demanding trades or retirement.

Fuck I really bought into that 9-0 start.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Just for fun:

    Top 3 forwards TOI

    Patches 19:07
    DDD: 18:51
    Plecks: 16:03
    Chuck: 15:56
    Weise: 15:51

Yup, Chucky played a full 3 minutes less than the teacher's pet. Actually, everyone played about 3 minutes less than DDD, besides Patches. And double the time on the PP, too.

As for managing Markov's minutes, he averaged 22:30 for these back to back games, second only to PK.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Skimmed through the comments and didn't see it mentioned (apologies if I missed it):

The Habs didn't choose a Molson Cup winner for January. The team literally refused to chose the best player for that month. I don't blame them, but think they should have given it symbolically to the fans for putting up with this mess. A small gesture to show they still care a little bit.

Oh, and talking about the dark future, there's grumblings out there now that Price needed surgery but the team went with simple rehab so they could get him back sooner. Turns out that wasn't good enough, and now they will have to go the surgery route anyway, which may mean Price will still be out at the start of next season. Just rumors, but at this point I wouldn't doubt it.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Per SFU, "Normally, the first home game of February sees the Canadiens award a player of the month honour for January. But three players tied for top spot — Lars Eller, Brendan Gallagher and Max Pacioretty — and tie-breaking system couldn't settle it, so their points will carry over to next month. "

I fail to see why PFK wasn't considered, he's had a point game for the last 15 games.

  52. Sad news that it now looks like TFS will have to have surgery and that the season is done for him...I hope he gets whatever he needs doing done as soon as possible and comes back next year at full strength. Of even bigger concern is that DGMB is looking at Reimer as a potential stop gap replacement - which is really fucking scary - suddenly the Habs want all the shit leaf goalies and see them as a way to break out of a slump. Sievens wasn't the answer - I doubt Rimmer will be either

    ReplyDelete
  53. I'm not one for stats much - but on my Twitter feed I just saw one that didn't surpise me but thta prompted me to pass it on - DDD has 1 point on the powerplay in the past 36 games...which brings back to that old adage about the definition of insanity...

  54. Read this at one of my fave politics blogs, seemed à propos;

I’m reminded of one of my favorite passages in True Grit, one of my favorite novels:

I was sick the next day. I got up and went to breakfast but I could not eat much and my eyes and nose were running so I went back to bed. I felt very low. Mrs. Floyd wrapped a rag around my neck that was soaked in turpentine and smeared with lard. She dosed me with something called Dr. Underwood’s Bile Activator. “You will pass blue water for a day or two but do not be alarmed as that is only the medicine working,” she said. “It will relax you wonderfully. Grandma Turner and I bless the day we discovered it.” The label on the bottle said it did not contain mercury and was commended by physicians and clergymen.

Along with the startling color effect the potion also caused me to be giddy and light-headed. I suspect now that it made use of some such ingredient as codeine or laudanum. I can remember when half the old ladies in the country were “dopeheads.”

I have a theory about the current mess. There is a black cloud, a curse if you will, on the Canadiens. It started about, oh, December 02, 1995. Let's call it the Curse of Saint Patrick. No, not the guy who drove all the snakes out of Ireland, the guy who used to play goal for the Habs. Since then many strange and evil things have happened to their better players. Zednik getting clotheslined by McClaren, Saku having his eye taken out by Williams, Max having his neck broken by the Ape, Price getting Kreidered to name a few. Also, bad luck like Brisebois just tipping a Corey Stillman slapshot from the blue line past Cristobal Huet in the playoffs coming on a line change. I could go on but you get the drift. Is there any way possible to repatriate Patrick from Colorado to come and be GM and coach? At least he doesn't coach the Dump and Chase and thinks outside the box. It is time for the musty and staid Montreal Canadiens to embrace change and enter the 21st century. Enough of trying to play hockey as designed by Scotty Bowman and Jacques Lemaire. Let's get a true franchise player and let Galchenyuk be the star he is meant to be and let PK control the game from the backend like the greats before him. Oh, and for the love of God get Price's knee fixed ASAP and let him heal properly.

    Thank You,
Glenn Stanton, aka the Maritimer (and proud Habs fan)

Montreal home losing streak record is 7 games. They've lost their last 5. They could tie the record this weekend!

    Exciting!

  76. Just watched the H I/O broadcast and Chris Nilan returned to a theme he mentioned in the past - the Habs practices are apparently complete shit. They don't appear to be under any pressure to score on 3-2 drills or 2-1 drills - they just do them mechanically - there is no teaching going on - which is why people practice in the first place. So I'm suddenly now thinking that they actually are just mailing it in...wow! It's only Feb. 5 - this is going to be a bloody long winter!

  78. While we anxiously await Sexy Friday, here is my little contribution to the debate, (apologies to the English Beat):

I said I see no goals
    I see only losses
I see no chance of a play-off tomorrow

    So stand down eMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien
    I say stand down eMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand Therrien

You tell me how can it work
    With this “process” of yours
    All these chip-ins aren’t working,
We want a third goal scored
    Stand down eMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien

    I sometimes wonder
If I'll ever get to say
    Come with me my children
    To the Stanley Cup parade
Our hopes seem desperate in your dump and chase plans
Would you give a second thought
Would you ever change the process, I doubt it
    Stand down eMTy
    Score!
    Everybody shout it
    Stand down eMTy!

DDD, cut his power play time
    More gCHuck at Centre
    We score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score

    Stand down please

    Stand down EMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien

    I say stand down EMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien
