  1. Merci Moeman! You've just picked up my overall hockey spirit - which has been very low for the last week! Nice ones all 'round! I love Susan Sarandon! Shows you what a dickhead Jeff Goldblum was to have let her get away. As the first to comment - may I suggest that we don't discuss the Habs in comments in this thread - I think we all need a break and will have plenty of opportunity as the weekend games approach...unless...the unthinkable happens...

I always kind of liked Jeff Goldblum, thought he was really good in Jurassic Park I and Independence Day.

  4. Please forgive the re-post, but I'm kinda' proud of this:

Here is my little contribution to the debate, (sung to the tune of "Stand Down Margaret" - apologies to the English Beat):

I said I see no goals
    I see only losses
I see no chance of a play-off tomorrow

    So stand down eMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien
    I say stand down eMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand Therrien

You tell me how can it work
    With this “process” of yours
    All these chip-ins aren’t working,
We want a third goal scored
    Stand down eMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien

    I sometimes wonder
If I'll ever get to say
    Come with me my children
    To the Stanley Cup parade
Our hopes seem desperate in your dump and chase plans
Would you give a second thought
Would you ever change the process, I doubt it
    Stand down eMTy
    Score!
    Everybody shout it
    Stand down eMTy!

DDD, cut his power play time
    More gCHuck at Centre
    We score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score
    Score, score, score, score, score

    Stand down please

    Stand down EMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien

    I say stand down EMTy
    Stand down please
    Stand down Therrien

  6. I admit that I am not a football fan and don't know much about Cam Newton but I just heard a 'speech' on the radio Bruce Arthur did about him (actually not the first time I heard it) which goes on to say what exactly has Newton done wrong? he likes to celebrate? along those lines and each time I did hear it, all I kept thinking was you could replace Cam Newton with PK Subban. Funny he never came up with the same 'speech' in defence of PFK.

I could be wrong but isn't there some rule in football which dictates the way you can celly or do a victory dance? If that is correct, then why is one player being defended for it and the other isn't especially if one sport has rules against it? Like I said, I don't watch much football and could be totally wrong, just seem to remember someone telling me this once.

I know we were only going to keep a positive vibe here today with no mention of a certain hockey team or their coach but I am curious to know the francophone media's take on the situation. Whom are they blaming? Do they want certain people fired or traded?

    1. From what I can gleam from their ramblings with my limited understanding of written French, I believe they think everybody except eMTy and DDD are expendable.

    2. They have been defending MT since the drop and saying it just wouldn't be fair to fire him now because Price is out and said any decision to fire him should only be considered if the trend continues when Price returns. Fast forward, now it's well, the players have to step up and DGMB has to provide his coach with the players. Last night on AC it was well, we saw everyone from the farm team and there just isn't any player who can be an impact player, they cited McDavid and Eichel or just look at the Wings, they had an injury, call up Nyquist and he made sure he wasn't sent down. Demers said he really thought that Galchenyuk has so much talent he thought he would be the one to shine but 4 years later, what has he done?
Don't they realize that what they are really saying is that other coaches/teams develop their players and that is not the case here? I saw McDavid used on the PP last night, this is his first time in the NHL, we all know how many years before Galchenyuk got any PP time and we all know that he was drafted as a centre and this was the first year he 'given a real shot'only to be moved to wing again.

Though they did grudgingly say MT shares some of the blame, they did question some of his decisions but also turned around to defend saying a coach can only use the tools he has to work with and he is just trying to make things work.

Saint Paddy, I just picture him having a meeting with the coach telling him all about his dinner with this guy, dinner with that guy, going off on tangents about when he was in Europe how the Swiss people are and how that people are and how he learned under Scotty Bowman , just look at how the Bruins are, how great Bab$ is, Mike and I were tweeting last night btw...and really not end up saying anything pertinent to him at all. Coach leaves his office the same way he enters, rolling his eyes.

  18. Last year I purchased a knockoff Habs sweater from Winners for $30. It's not quite right with a blue neck, no stripes on the arms or at the bottom but it's red and the crest is right. Anyway, my lovely wife purchased an authentic jersey for me for Christmas. Says she paid $200 for it. I said I love it, but...that's a lot even for an authentic sweater. I've been hemming and hawing ever since - haven't worn it. I've made my decision. It's going back. From top to bottom, this team has done nothing to deserve one red cent from me. If by some miracle they start winning and keep winning, maybe I'll run out and replace my Christmas present with a hoodie which I am in need of. I am disgruntled.

    1. To elaborate, I don't think I've ever hear him say anything negative towards anyone and I don't think he would say shit if he had a mouthful. They way the leaf treated him when he showed up for a game (last season or one before?) was totally classless, they couldn't find one seat in the whole building for him to sit and send him to a resto they own that didn't even have the sound on the TV? He never complained about it at all and even tried to put a positive spin on it.

  21. Therrien is and always has been a dick. Answering legit questions about the game his team just lost with the contempt he was showing wasa disgrace. It is a complete return the the regime they replaced. TFS has a fucking buggered knee - not a "lower body injury". Grow some fucking balls Bergervin and talk to us like adults. Your team (it's on you remember) sucks big time and your coach hasn't got a fucking clue so unless you are looking to get fired too you have to swallow whatever you need to swallow, rinse and start over! (sorry - broke my own vow! Sue me - I am a Habs fan!)

  22. According to Nilan, there was a function last night at the Bell Centre, he was invited but did not attend due to family issues and says that Carbonneau was there and as hockey people do when their together, they talk hockey, simple as that. There was no 'sit down' or special meeting with the brass.

I want to thank juce for the reply above regarding the franco media. It is as I suspected, they will defend their own regardless of performance, despite the fact he has a far worse record than beleaguered anglo coach Randy Cunneyworth. Would they have won a few more games with Carey Price in net? Perhaps, but they would have had to win many, many of them 2-1, maybe 3-1 with Max or Pleks getting their usual empty netters. Nope, this mess leads back to management and development of prospects, a problem I thought they resolved with all the hires made by MB. Seems they still don't get it OR as many have pointed out, Therrien is only interested in immediate results, hence his heavy use of veterans, even when they suck, instead of playing youngsters.

I have two Habs jerseys, a home and away. They are so old they were made by CCM. I haven't worn them in some time, there has been no reason to lately.

I wouldn't be adverse to Carbo's return, as long as he is told up front: Play the kids, all the time, live with their mistakes, don't worry about the standings. And for the love of God put DD on the 3rd line or trade him and release Pateryn from purgatory.

    1. Admittedly, I get the 'French perspective' mostly from AC, I don't read the papers much and I rarely watch TVA's Dave Morrisette (they have recycled RDS Bergeron over there) so I can also view this as former coaches defending coaches and their former colleague. On the other hand, DDD is still a star and always will be. Mind you, d'Arche makes some very good points and sometimes corrects them when they say certain things about some of the players.

A lot of people trashed Bergevin for trading him and not giving him a chance, but isn't that exactly what he did when he traded Prust for him? Today Nilan stood by Bergevin's decision to trade him and he thinks THAT may have helped him too and now he has to learn how to stay clean, only he can change it.

People also say that Kassian made his choice, but addiction is often the monster that makes the choices for you, not yourself. I hope he beats his demons.
