  1. I gotta say that sadly I predicted a lost weekend once DDD returned to the ice. His presence came as the Habs were starting, albeit very slowly, to find some rhythm. McM was getting decent PP time and overall about 15 minutes of icetime a game. GCHuK was getting 18-20 minutes and there was some sighns of "chemistry" being built on ice. DDD returns and all the lines looked lost. The PP was shit and DDD featured in about half of it - but that's still enough to fuck the team chemistry up. He gets credit for making a good pass on a goal against teh Rangers - but it was too little - way too late. Just when I thought the Habs might get two 30 goal scorers out of the season - small consolation I know - DDD returns and now I am concerned both of them stall at around 28 goals each. This 6 game procession downwards won't be any fun - but Moeman - you are amazing for your dedication to the cause. Thank you! Let's hope that PFK makes it back - and he is the only one I really want to see again at this point - just to liven the games up a bit. Actually 0K - maybe Auto as well - but only at the expense of icetime to DDD!! As always...Just fucking win!

I was going to comment on that equation. Can't argue with that math.

I felt relief when Molson jettisoned the Goat, I didn't feel that way about Randy Cunneyworth, because he got hung out to dry. I can't even express how much contempt I feel towards the arrogant Therrien. It's so bad I still can't watch the team play just because of his presence and his love affair with DD to the detriment of all others. I really can't wait for the season to be over.

    2. The weirdest and most pathetic thing about MT2 is his unprofessionalism both behind the bench and in his post-game comments. How DGMB thinks this is acceptable is confounding. His reactions are either non-existent or petty. Any manager worth his salt would be heaving him at the end of game 82. Only 5 to go...

      Delete
    3. I agree about Cunneyworth, he was hung out to dry, he knew it too and through it all he handled the whole thing with class.

      Delete
    4. I could be wrong here (I'm told it's happened once before...apparently...)but I believe that as this slide to the bottom plays out, so too will the patience of one Geoff Molson. I see both DGMB and MT being sent packing. There is a precedent set with the Goat and Cunneyworth. How are this lot any different or better? Apart from the fist month of the season the team has been the worst team in the NHL. No "big deal" free agent moves to try save the season were done - nothing! Who came in this year to help? AHL'ers not included: Matteau, Brown, Lessio, Scott, Danault, Bartley, Scrivens - not exactly impact players...and who went out? Semin,Kassian, Tinordi, DSP, Weise, Tokarski, Fleischman, Thomas - not exactly impact players either - so really - DGMB has traded fuck all for fuck all. I could do that! Can I please manage the Montreal Canadiens. I promise not to play DDD on the Powerplay ever!. I'll play Chucky at centre and I'll have McM rent a room in front of the opposition net. Wherever possible I'll ask the players to cary the puck and pass it to one of their teammates when they sense trouble ahead. Dump and chase will be banned and I will award a $500k prize at the end of the year for the player with the most puck possession time (when compared directly to turnovers)...

  5. Leaf are tampering with Jimmy Vesey in a less blatant way than their leaf-owned radio station handing out 'sign Stamkos' signs which proudly featured the station's logo and radio handle.

"And the conspiracy theories have already begun.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were rumoured to be jockeying for position in the Vesey Sweepstakes last summer when they hired his father, Jim, as an amateur scout. They also drafted Vesey’s younger brother, Nolan, in the sixth round in 2014."

Nothing conspiratory about it, 690 just said his father apparently doesn't have any scouting experience and this article cites Hunter's 'recruiting players through beguiling methods'

  7. Nilan and Vesey Sr. are close friends, he has him on the show from time to time and I do remember a conversation where Sr. says Preds wanted to sign him but he decided to continue school first and that he was glad about his son's decision. I also remember him on when 'Jr' was in the running for the Hobie Baker, I don't remember hearing any mention that Sr was a scout for the leaf, I only learned that recently.

  8. I was just thinking about the draft and came up with an idea (not sure if it's original, but it is in my mind). The bottom 14 should have a mini round-robin single round knockout tournament to decide draft rankings.

Round 1 is a standard 1 vs 14, 2 vs 13...all the way to 7 vs 8. (#1 being the last place team). 7 games.
The losers of these games draft in the 7 lowest spots (8 - 14). So if #1 loses against #14 (right now that would be the make beliefs losing to the dead things), tronna would end up with the #14 pick. Or maybe the rule is you can drop no more than 7 spots and adjust the outcomes accordingly.

Round 2 - 7 teams remaining. The team from round 1 that had the 'highest' seed (if the leafs won round one for example) gets a bye. The remaining 6 teams are seeded accordingly and play off. The three losers get picks 5 - 7.

Round 3 - the previous 'bye' team plays the lowest seed and the other two teams face off. The losers get picks 3-4 and the winners play for the top pick.

This creates more excitement for the fans, a reason to not tank, extra revenue for those teams that get to host games, and a chance for all teams to draft in the top 4, while the crappy teams still have a chance to do the same.

I'll give Gary and the BofG a call later today. Probably be implemented for next year's playoffs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are No. 1 in both categories, meaning they’re the top love/hate club among Canadians. The Winnipeg Jets rank last in both, meaning most respondents have no feelings about them, either way. The Jets are just sort of … there. But the answers, understandably at present, indicate a lot of ‘meh’ toward Canadian teams in general."

  13. Nilan not speaking too highly about the Preds side of how things went with Vesey. He said Vesey never promised to sign with them, they were told he has not made any decision. He's calling out Jimmy Murphy for saying Vesey lied to the Preds.

As for working for the Leaf, Nilan said he made a call and reached out to Mark Hunter to see if he could get his BF Vesey Sr some kind of work. Could his father working there be the inside track, of course, the leaf could be in the mix he said, but so could many other teams.

As for the Preds claims of 'loyalty' this is a business and they weren't exactly loyal to Seth Jones.

If he had to choose, he would take Vesey's word over Preds or Jimmy Murphy who likely goes on rumour. Nilan said he asked Vesey straight out if the Preds would be his first choice to sign and he said no.

  21. FWIW, there are (still) lots of Habs on this team to love and CHerish. This blog puts both PFK and TFS at the forefront. The passion for the CH is also reflected in the generations and teams that were lead, literally by the Rocket, Le Gros Bill and The Flower. How many fucking players/men can be recognized, almost solely, by a nickname (something we have FHFun doing here to this day). Maurice's passion and power, Jean's class and skill and Guy's play and performance defined what we love about our team. Their coaches let them fucking play. Yes, in a team structure but their God-given talent was permitted to be put on display, for fans and maybe as importantly, their teammates. I am not putting aside the KidAs, PatCHes', gCHuks and the next fab Hab. Nor am I denying the influence of the Bowmans and Pollocks and Irwins and Molsons, et al. The Montreal Canadiens are recognized as one of professional sports most endeared, successful and important franCHises. May this season end, may it be burned to the ground and maybe from the ashes we will see a beautiful rebirth. Yes it is only sports but this/our team means too much to just be one of 30. Just popping in to say hello to moe and juce... Moe is on a roll against the evil snet, keep it up brother and I give a big thumbs up to your earlier rant regarding our beloved Habs. Sometimes it seems the present day owner is trying to live off the past while ignoring the present. eMpTy is a fucking disaster and I have Bargain Bergy on a short leash. I better see some fucking action this summer and I don't mean any more Dumpster Diving.

As for a nickname for young Joel Hanley, how about "Billy".

  96. Turns out that poll making PFK the most overrated player consisted of 28 players and 1,000 fans. 3 players voted him overrated.

"Mike Richards was probably one of them"

  97. I've been sifting through some of these emails at the end of the article.

    http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/kelly-unsealed-emails-show-an-nhl-in-midst-of-an-existential-crisis/article29419071/

Upthread moeman posted a link to a Globe article, one of the emails in my posted link here seems to be a presentation (maybe slides or powerpoint) in a GM's meeting, on one of the pages Sinden is noted as saying fighting should no longer be a tactic by a team to win a hockey game. (name is hand-written in by possibly the Globe reporter) This section has about 60 pages on stats of number of fights, size of fighting players from one era to another, penalties, rule changes etc...

    2. Thanks, Scott, I only just heard. Not much left to the season to evaluate him. Depth for next year? Maybe TFS is planning on paternity leave?

      Delete
    3. Read that 5 teams competed for him, DGMB said we'll play you now and you burn a year on your entry level.

    4. I have been curious about the potential pat leave for TFS myself. If his wife is anything like mine, the pressure to "stay injured" (wink wink nudge nudge say no more say no more) through the third trimester could be a factor no one will ever EVER talk about.
