  1. Well tonight i'll give FTWD another go. I wasn't too impressed with season 1.

29 - I knew there was a reason I wasn't supposed to like Dustin. A little coke? Pff. Didn't Grant Fuhr help Gretzky win at least a couple of those cups with the aid of a little bit o' powder? A light 'dust'ing of snow perhaps? Anyway, happy for this Willett fella - never heard of him but seems legitimately like a nice guy. Spieth doesn't come off that way, but i think it's just because he's so damned focused on his game.

Well soon time to pick my playoff bracket...tough as that will be. Good thing is i won't be tempted to pick the Habs to go all the way.

  2. I am with you Paddy on FTWD. TWD for the ladies.

  3. I love that cartoon of the frog. Takes me back years and years! "Hello my baby, Hello my honey, Hello my rag time gal, send me a kiss by wire. Baby my heart's on fire..." I can hear the song in my head as I type this...sure beats the feeling of doom I have thinking about today's presser. I fear it will be a lot of excuses. The over/under on use of the word Inury/injuries is 11. I'm going to go over...anyone know what time this shitshow starts?

I wouldn't waste 5 seconds listening to BBB today. It's predictable what will be said: "Too many injuries and my coach will be back." I don't want to hear it. I'm sure he and Molson have anticipated all the questions (actually, they may have been sent in advance by the press) and have all the scripted replies ready.

    2. I want to see him say it all with a straight face! We all know that no media journalist interested in covering the Habs next season will call him out on anything. It will all be a lot of politely worded, open ended questions that give him a lot of wiggle room in order to not have to answer anything tough...

  6. So GCHYUK played the last 10 games with a broken finger on his right hand. I am even more impressed with him. Now I know why his TOI was kept down. MT was saving him!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yep, gave him more time with the broken finger than without. Only thing MT saving was himself. Post game he claimed gCHyuk wasn't ready, they brought him along in a way that wouldn't ruin his confidence because you have to be careful with a young player, it's a process...yada, yada, yada.

No one believes that crap, even when asked on AC, Carbonneau disagreed with that statement.

  21. "Dear fans,

It has been a tough year. As a fan, I find that the results of our team were disappointing. There are likely many reasons that explain what happened, but I am not interested in excuses. I am interested in making our team better.

As far as what to expect in the off-season, I will let our hockey operations team, led by Marc Bergevin and Michel Therrien, detail these in due time. When you have a disappointing season like the one we just had, no stone can be left unturned in looking for ways to improve. You have my full commitment that we will do everything possible to improve our team.

This being said, despite subpar results this season, stability in our approach remains the focus. The mark of all good organizations in sports is stability and long-term vision. I remain convinced that we have a strong foundation of core players and veterans, as well as younger players with promising futures.

Like you, I am a fan of this legendary organization. I hear your frustrations and I read your tweets after a loss. I share your elation and feel the same thrills when we succeed. I know how important it is to have a winning team in this city. You demand and deserve better. I guarantee that we will do everything in our power to honour this and continue building the great heritage of the Montreal Canadiens.

This year we hit a bump in the road. I see this as an opportunity to become stronger, better, and more prepared for the future.

On behalf of our entire organization, I wish to thank you for your continued support, your loyalty, your passion and for being the best fans in the world. See you next season!"

    1. So, Molson sets the tone in advance of the presser that he will go with the status quo. Does he really believe that a 'heads-up' that he supports MB and the return of MT will pacify one of the most hockey-knowledgeable fan basis in the league who see as plain as the nose on their faces that MT has to go?

"...your passion and for being the best fans in the world. See you next season!" That to me, sounds just like Bettman when he said during the lockout "we have the most passionate fans in the world" aka, see you next year 'suckers'

  23. I don't give a damn what they will say, I believe that there is absolutely no reason, given the talent of this team, that would have lead them to such a collapse without TFS other than coaching. The coach is entirely responsible and any other franchise would not have tolerated it by brining that same coach back the next season. Yes, the absence of TFS masked some flaws but they are not as bad as the record shows.
Pride used to be the mantra the CH, now it is shame...shame on the entire organization for trying to bamboozle the fans and shame for taking us to be lemmings, this is not the leafs and just because it worked for them since 1967 doesn't mean you should bring the CH down to their level.

  66. Not a lot of hard hitting questions in that presser. Well, certainly no follow-ups calling their bullshit at the very least. I do get that sense that it's roll over or be excluded from the party. My biggest fear is that there won't be a significant change at the top until another catastophic event which sets us back another 2 decades. You know of which I speak.

Growing up, the Hawks were always a close 2nd as my favourite team (and those were some lean years). I wish I could click my heels and make it so I could cheer for them as if they were the Habs, but there is something in the blood that makes it impossible. I guess that's the case with any real sports fan. But it sucks especially when the future looks so bleak.

And as is the case with sports, maybe we'll be here next year spouting what a genious MB is for making all the right moves and giving the Habs a good shot at taking a run for the cup. Just maybe.

    ReplyDelete
  67. All players crash TFS and target him even if they don't know the injury, that's often on record as being part of the game plan. UBI or LBI won't change that so protecting the player where TFS is concerned is just plain BS.

I think I'm going to be sending a letter to Geoff Molson that he has lost this fan, for a while anyway. Keeping this staff of losers all the way down to the AHL is just wrong and a slap in the face to the fan base. I'm assuming social media is going nuts about this.

DD 32 straight games on the PP with 0 points…I guess BBB didn’t have that info.

Let's face it guys and gals, the Habs may just not be very good. Even with a healthy Price they don't win anything. Not enough talent up front. Once the opposition shuts down Max and gCHuk (which is relatively easy) that's it.

The best thing that could happen this fall is a 0-10 start. Even BBB would have to kick empty out of the foxhole for that. It only took 0-4-0 to get Demers and Savard fired back in '95.

  75. Watched the full pressed and now I have this to say...DGMB is dead to me. He us gutless and not nearly as bright as we gave been giving him credit for. While it is admirable to stand by your decisions, a smart manager knows when to cut his losses. They need to take the No Excuses banner down because that was all I heard today. Repeating what they did this year with the same staff and hoping they have a healthy TFS is the definition of insanity. DGMB clearly has no idea what to do next. He might trade the whole team if someone offers up enough 4th liners...I don't really know...it is going to be a long summer friends...and if Geoff Molson really does read these blogs ...I have never felt so embarrassed to be a Habs fan than I do today

OK, I just finished reading Stu Cowan's transcript of Bargain Bin's damage control spin and all I can say is wow, he's just as disingenuous as Geoff Molson in his letter to the fans. I'll just comment on two things 1)He kept saying with Carey Price they make the playoffs. Well, you better have a contingency plan because Carey is a china doll with bad knees. 2)This is the one I find ridiculous: You can't get scorers because nobody trades those guys. All you can do is get 3rd an 4th line guys to help out the ones you have. Bullshit. Give Jim Nill a call BB, maybe he can tell you how it's done. He got Tyler Seguin and Jason Spezza for fuck-all. In the meantime you keep scrounging in everybody's dumpster to get your Matteaus and Danaults.

Oh yeah, when all else fails, fire the anglo.

The Habs are going nowhere with these two fools. They are worse than Gauthier and Martin.

I'm still angry over Geoff Molson and Marc Bergevin's decision to keep the status quo. After a disastrous season like 2015-16 there has to be some accountability besides firing a part-time PP consultant, who was probably ignored and overruled by the bully Therrien anyway. Like Saint Paddy I am going to let it go but I would like to copy and paste a comment posted over at HI/O that I thought summed up the situation far better than I ever could. I hope that's OK just in case some of our fellow FHFers missed it. It was too good to be lost:

During my 50 years in law, one thing I learned was to beware of the judgment of anyone who refers to themselves in the third person, as Marc Bergevin is quoted as doing in the story above. It’s not merely that it’s pompous and narcissistic, but it indicates the person thinks that his name carries more authority than a simple “I” or “me,” that he is bigger and more important than he actually is–in short, it demonstrates self-conceit on a large scale.

Nor do I trust the judgment of people who say they have the information that the common people don’t have and therefore that their judgment should be trusted when, in fact, they withhold the crucial information from the people. That is the way a lot of dodgy politicians operate, even in an alleged democracy.

For sure there is some need to keep some information secret in the hockey world, but the Canadiens management withholds transparency when there is no need to. There was, for example, no need to string the fans along for an entire season without giving them the information on Carey Price’s injury, condition and recovery until only a game or two remained in the season. This kind of management behavior is counter-productive because it breeds rumors and distrust.

And to those people who say that the Canadiens’ management and ownership acts as any businessmen would to maximize profit, the Canadiens hockey club is much more than a business and the management and owner of that business have much more responsibility than that of a mere business owner.

For an example of how businessmen who treat great sports clubs as purely a business investment, who put in charge unqualified staff and who in the process begin to destroy a grand sporting institution, see what happened to Liverpool F.C., which now appears to be recovering, and what is now happening to Manchester United F.C., the other sports club I support, which is headed for ruin unless things radically change.

This comes from one who has not urged the firing of anyone from the club, not Bergevin, not Therrien, although I have agreed with a lot of the criticisms aimed at them. But there comes a point where there has to be accountability, and a season like the one the Canadiens have endured reaches that point. To say, after that ghastly season, trust us to do the right thing while scapegoating a peripheral member of the coaching staff is simply not enough, particularly not in the wake of the bewildering coaching and management decisions that were made throughout that season.

That says it all folks. I await J.T.'s season review.

  82. Hmm, the Maritimer's right, amidst getting caught in the obvious of maintaining status quo, I didn't even realize they fired the anglo.

Headlines "Bergeviin addresses Subban's future", "Is Subban safe or will Canadiens trade him?" I haven't listened to or read them but how is it even possible that those words are ever grouped into a sentence? I mean, this is one of the top D in the league over a few seasons and one of the best players on the team, a Norris trophy holder, a guy who gets fans out of their seats and generates revenue for the team selling merchandise, plays with a passion while his coach treats him like a piece of crap and still comes back with a smile to play the next game for the team he loves?
a guy who went over and above for the community and made “the biggest philanthropic commitment by a sports figure in Canadian history” and not only raises money but also gives his time and sits on the board of directors and visits kids every week? How is it possible that these words I write can even be written?

Orangeman is right, it's like the Roy trade is being dragged out over several years.

He has zero credibility and as the saying goes "he's writing cheques his fucking cheap suits can't cash anymore..."

Someone postulated earlier, I can't remember where, that Therrien may actually be pulling the strings for the Habs not Bergevin. Makes sense. All they seem to acquire are grinders who can dump and chase and not score. Semin, Sekac any skilled players come to wither and die under eMTy's tutoring. Or we could blame Price's Knee. ;-)

  99. I am going to echo Brian Wilde, Stu Cowan and a load of others here. The arrogance of DGMB, and MT is absolutely stunning. They do not have a Plan B. If TFS was not injured, the Habs would have won the Stanley Cup - end of conversation! Everything began and ended with the injury to TFS. More goals were scored so they would have won more games if TFS was in nets. Do they actually watch any of the games? Condon let in more goals than TFS would have - yes - but the Habs left him hung out to dry more times than I care to even think about. Price isn't going to stop PFK from blowing a tire in the game where MT hung him out to dry. TFS isn't going to make Patches actually pick the right man to check on that same play either. TFS wasn't going to help DDD score even 1 goal in 33 PP attempts, but somehow there is nothing their that needs addressing. I'm going to spell something out here in case Geoff Molson actually does read blogs such as this one. I'll do it slowly...AND IN CAPS...THIS PAST SEASON SAW THE MONTREAL CANADIENS ACHIEVE WHAT NO OTHER TEAM IN THE HISTORY OF THE NHL HAS EVER DONE BEFORE. INSIDE OF 60 GAMES THEY WENT FROM BEING THE BEST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE TO THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE. THIS HAS NEVER EVER BEEN DONE BEFORE IN THE HISTORY OF THE NHL. THE MONTREAL CANADIENS MANAGEMENT BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NOTHING THAT THE COACHES COULD HAVE DONE TO PREVENT THIS. THERE IS NO BLAME TO ATTRIBUTED AND NO ONE SHOULD LOSE THEIR JOB BECAUSE IT WOULDN'T BE FAIR ON THEM BECAUSE IF NOT FOR THE INJURY TO CAREY PRICE THE HABS WOULD HAVE WON THE STANLEY CUP. NEXT SEASON EVERYTHING WILL BE BETTER BECAUSE CAREY PRICE WILL BE HEALTHY...That is the message the team has now put out to the world. Is it any wonder that when Bergevin (no longer worthy of a 4HF nickname!) goes looking to sign a top free agent or a top 6 forward who have 29 other teams to choose from, they don't choose the Habs! Right before our eyes, the Montreal Canadiens have morphed into the toronto maple leafs...

So Davey an' me, we were in da foxhole playing hide da sausage. This is why Davey is so good at avoiding contact in a match. Anyway, dere we were playing hide da sausage...Davey being his usual sneaky self, when into the foxhole jumps my good friend Mark. I say "Mark, dis is normally a two player game, but we could try for a tree way sausage link." Mark said dere was no time - it was almost time to go tell da press to mind there fucking business. As you know, they don't know. We know. He says we need a scapegoat. I say da Habs got rid of da goat before dey hire you. We laughed you know. So anyway, I put on my serious face. You know it. I say to Mark it's got to be JJ or Ramsay. Mark says "Daigneault?!" I say (still with my serious face), "Oui." He looked at me so puzzled, but I could not hold it - I crack my creepy smile and burst out laughing. Then he starts laughing too. At da same time we look at each other and say "Ramsay?" We laugh so hard, Davey sitting on my lap joined in. He didn't even know why. Jus so happy to be playing with Daddy and other Daddy. Oh, my sweet, wee Davey. Question nothing.

A few years ago I read an article somewhere which had redacted Colon emails but it was evident by the game dates and boxscore which players were and weren't given penalties and it was clear why he went on campaign to get him fired. Give the guy his severance, Colon and get over yourself.

  106. Rumour that Cube had talks with Habs brass according to Bergeron. Yeah, he'd love that.
