Managed to play 4 rounds so far, but man it's been freezing and windy. I broke 90 once but it's so cold I can't get my body warmed up enough to swing properly plus it's like hitting a rock off the tee. The ball will barely compress.
Is BBB doing any work done lately or just visiting his tailor?
So do'n you kids worry about da lottery. I'm sitting here in my jacuzzi wit my rouge blanc bleu banana hammock on, drinking one of dem new Molson 1908 beers. Did you know dat was the first year Montreal won da Stanley Cup and Bob Cole did the play by play?! I'm such a lovable joker of course. Now you know dat too! An i couldn't tell you if anyting i said is actually true. Mark tells Strombo he doesn't have a lucky charm with him, but he actually has Davey tucked in his coat pocket, periodically rubbing Mark's left nipple for good luck. So we're good to go and I will tell you we will take that Laine cat wit da first pick. He's a big kid that would keep a large part of the bench warm for when Davey gets of the ice. Of course we know it's written in stone - Bettman promised Arizona their local kid, so they get #1. Rogers owns the league and the leaf, so they get #2, and we get #3 for putting up with that John Scott guy that everybody hates. Right? So with da number tree pick the obvious choice is Alex DeBrincat. Perfect player. Perfect size. Fits in Marks udder pocket perfecly.
OK that settles all foolish speculation about PK to the Oil. Without that top 2 pick, it's not gonna happen. Not that it would have anyway. Player I would like to see drafted at 9. Logan Brown. Big centre that fuckface can ruin. Player I expect they draft. Small American C Clayton Keller.
So it's official: MB made that trade for no reason and try to be coy about it to cover it up.
Of course the leaf will pick first. That was decided 12 months ago.
Boudreau got fired, and he actually won his division and made the playoffs! MT could be hit by a bus tomorrow and MB would put a cardboard cutout of his ugly mug behind the bench. The scary thing is, no one would even notice, including the players.
evert day I read or hear something that confirms the above. eMTy is an empty suit. He does not talk to the players, he does not care about moneyball, he plays his favorites and hopes TFS is in net. If David DDD jumps over the boards for the first PP of the year, its going to be a long long season and like it or not we are in tank mode.
One of the reasons Detroit is competative is they play Russian style hockey. Never give the puck away unless it would not be prudent. We play eMTy style hockey, give it away and let TFS stop it.
Bargain Bergy does nothing but pick another young D, Chychrun or Sergachev. There's no saviour (Stamkos) on the way. Get ready for more of the same old same old next season. Like Steve said, an empty suit behind the bench will tap wee Davey on the shoulder more than anyone else. Every Sunday morning BB will have a novena said at his church for Carey price's knee. He may even have his priest bless it. Bargain Bergy could have saved face and cleaned out his dump and chase coaching staff but chose not too. Karma is going to bite him hard.
Well, my Sea Dogs are done but the World Championships are coming up, I can watch KidG perform in Moscow along with the newest leaf miracle worker.
Why would the NHL want to arrange the result? Sure, Rogers paid a bazillion dollars for the broadcast rights. Yeah, the ratings for the network’s game telecasts are down there where the submarines roam, so Rogers is taking a bath on its NHL investment.
And yes, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the linchpin of that whole broadcast deal and they’ve been rancid since around 1967. But rig the draft so that the NHL’s pet franchise gets a crack at the top pick? Only a greedy, money-obsessed sports league would even … oh, never mind.
What is more troublesome than the possibility that the NHL might have rigged the lottery is the process that brought us to this point: Blatant, persistent tanking is fatal to a sports league. Any league. The players on the ice may be trying hard, but when management has already ensured failure by shipping out most of their high-priced players, that’s tanking.
That’s what the Toronto Maple Leafs did this year: they tanked. That Brendan Shanahan is being praised for tanking is so mind-bending, we won’t even go there. Somehow, even with the lottery percentages altered to give the league’s worst team only a 20 per cent shot at the top pick, the Leafs still beat 5-to-1 odds to waltz away with the chance to draft Auston Matthews.
The lesson? Tanking pays. The way to end it? Give all 14 non-playoff teams equal weight in the lottery. No team is going to tank for a chance to draft 14th.
On the other hand, here’s one for you: Since Mike Modano was drafted No. 1 overall in 1988, 27 players, beginning with Mats Sundin, have been taken in the top spot. Among those 27 players, they have won only five Stanley Cups: Patrick Kane has three with the Blackhawks, Vinnie Lecavalier won once, and Sidney Crosby and Marc-André Fleury shared one with Pittsburgh.
That’s it. Five Stanley Cups — and one guy has three of them, so 23 top picks never got a sniff of the champagne. So after all the tanking, the controversy, the hype, the buildup that makes every top pick sound like Bobby Orr — the truth is that except in rare years when a player like Connor McDavid is available, it’s all a lot of lukewarm air.
Silly trade talk, part 12,456: As for the folks who think it’s a good idea to swap P.K. Subban to the Leafs for the chance to draft Matthews — get real. I wrote a few weeks ago that at times this season Subban seemed like a separate planet from the Canadiens organization, but that doesn’t mean you give away one of the league’s handful of premier defencemen for a draft pick that may or may not pan out.
There is simply no way you trade Subban for Toronto’s top pick, or for Edmonton’s No. 4 pick, not even if the Oilers throw in a surplus elite forward or two. Subban dominates 30 minutes a game. There are no more than five or six defencemen in the league like him, while there are a couple of dozen forwards who will likely grade above Matthews for years to come.
The problem for the Canadiens is that their window to win a Stanley Cup with their current nucleus is about as long as the prime (and good health) of Carey Price, which means they can’t give up any key part of that nucleus (Subban, Brendan Gallagher, Max Pacioretty or Alex Galchenyuk) to build for a future that may not be there.
So while Subban may have some fence-mending to do with his teammates and the organization, he’s simply not a guy you can afford to lose unless the return is overwhelming.
Hear, hear! Scanning the comments, it seems a lot of leafies read JT's column. Like, I've said before, if they trade PFK, this team will be dead to me as long as the current management is in place.
The things I do not understand. One of them iks player development. What is it? For example these 18 and 19 year old kids do not do the right thngs in the off season. Quell Suprise? Why not have a two month boot camp for all our prospects. Figure skating coaches, electonic games to speed up thinking, short shot sticks to teach quick release. drills to cross the blue line in traffic, gap control, good nutreion. learning french fffs.
I did a quick scan of the comments from the Todd article - juce mentioned lots of leafers posting and I noticed one of them giving props to leaf lover Travis Yost for linking to the story. So yeah, whatever. I'm still waiting to hear back on my proposal for a mini tournament to determine the draft rankings.
Speaking of leaf lovers, saw a video clip over at TSN of one of the biggest of them all "O-Dog" jumping out of his chair with the big fist pump when the lottery was won by the compost heap that are the leafs. A-1 professional journalism right there folks.
Whatever. With the current management structure in place, next year is a bust too. I'm about to cut the ol' cable and it won't be back for hockey season. I will be sending Mr Molson a message to let him know that I've returned the CH sweater that I received from my wife for Christmas. Sorry but Molson just isn't deserving of any of my hard earned coin right now.
In fairness to the O-Dog, who I like 'cause he's funny as heck, he is not a journalist. He is a dyed-in-the-wool leaf fan who admits it whole-heartedly, who offers opinions on tsn's hockey panels and does a radio show for them. I got no problem with him. He is no worse than Knuckles who loves the Habs. It's the usual suspects like blob, insidredger and the insipid mallard who suck leaf arse that piss me off.
I am still struggling with that year end presser by BargainBin, man, talk about offering up excuse after excuse for a miserable season and then offering up a double extended middle finger to the fans. No accountability at all by the worst coaches in two leagues. Geoff Molson must have took a valium before he went to that shit show. Fuck me.
Draft day trades that will shock and awe. Toronto will bend over AZ. First overall for 7th, 20th this year, first next year Elkema larson bubbalo, and Max Domi. Montreal will trade PFK to Edm for the 4th, Nail and the Kid in the hall, plus a D prospect. Then with our 9th take a D man.
Good riddance. Hope he does get the Nordiques back, I think if they were already here, Molson would not have the monopoly and would therefore would have fired his incompetents because he knows he has no competition.
"After the Leafs won the Draft Lottery, the Raptors advanced to the second round, and the Blue Jays took two of three games against the Rays, the Reporters weigh in on how the rest of Canada is viewing Toronto's feel-good sports weekend."
From the Maritimes I'll weigh in: "I don't give a flyin' fuck."
I'm hitting 55 this year and never in my lifetime did I think Canadians would blatantly challenge other Canadians this way. What is the purpose? To me it is 100% un-Canadian. We are known to be polite and easy-going people. Why rattle a compatriot this way? Inferiority or superiority complex? Why do Vancouverites and almost all 'Westerners' and much of Québecois and in general 50%+ of 'Easterners' have a hate on for Toronto? What utter fucking fools.
I'll take a guess and say: because they live in the biggest, most populace city in the country they are self-important and want the rest of us to know it?
Just to add to moe's clarification: the leaf blatantly tanked, trading or shutting down for the season their best players, they were even more obvious than what Buffalo did last year. Toronto are celebrating their glorious 30th place finish. Outside of southern Ontario does anyone care about basketball? The jays? Ha! This is Red Sox country down here with the Yankees probably next in popularity. Keep gazing at your navel Toronto.
Morning all...I haven't been commenting on recent event - the draft lottery etc. because as long as the new Habs motto remains "pas d'accountabilitie" it just doesn't matter! I did, however wake up to news that zach boychuk is following me on twitter...not sure what that means and I must google him later to see if he's any good...but it is news that, for me, beats anything to do with the Habs right now...
Yes - all big news over here. Tom Hanks apparently put a grand down some months back so at 5000-1 he's quids in as they say - but I'm not really a huge footie fan - I can take it or leave it really and I have no passion for it like I do/did for the Habs. So good for them.
So BargainBin says he is willing to trade the #9 pick, could move up, could move down, could trade for an established player. But, he said he wants to build through the Draft... Which way is the wind blowing today Marc?
after the first 3, the next 10 are all sixes. Logan Brown the 6.6 foot center could easily turn out to be number one pick. Trading up makes no sense. Like you said before, this draft will be long over when the next GM tries to develop the pick.
Bergevin confirmed the #Habs are currently in contract discussions with prospects Artturi Lehkonen and Martin Reway.
Development of these prospects includes orgiami with a focus on flying shapes, that they can launch from the press box anxd bonus points if they can hit the ice.
Good morning FHFriends, many Maritimers work and live out in Fort MacMurray, let's wish all those folks, and the local people as well, all the best in these trying times.
The DGMB condumdrum. Cant trade for a good player, cant sign a good free agent, cant develop a good player, cant get eMTy to stop using DDD as a first line center.
Gagnon signing a slightly different tune this morning. Still says that T’es rien is a good coach but MB made a mistake end of season because he spoke too soon and didn't know Hartley would be available and to remember that Hartley said when he won the Jack Adams 'show me a good goalie and I'll show you a good coach'.
Politics, it's all in the name, you're great till a another name comes along.
Here's the bottom line in my mind now. Without Carey Price, who evolved, or developed into an elite goalie the Montreal Canadiens are an average or perhaps less than average hockey team. We can see that Max is not a great leader, PK is maybe not a "team" player and the other elite talent Galchenyuk, is still finding his way. Other than Gallagher there is no help for those four core players. Still, MB has something to work with with those 4 players but there are two individuals who undermine everything, Therrien and Desharnais. Statistics and your own eyes will tell you this. Some day MB may see this as well and will act, or Molson will do it for him. One more season should tell the tale.
The M - spot on as always - sadly - it will be Geoff Molson who see the light. BBB is dead to me after his "No Accountability" performance at the end of the year. He is a fucking knob who won't be told because he knows best - FUCK OFF! I had such high hopes when he came on board. He's killed it. he justifies keeping the AHL coaching staff in tact because of how many players they had to call up. Bullshit - other teams had similar issues. That what farm teams are about - you coach and manage players for the eventuality that they get called up. There is not justification to keep T'es rien (love that juce!) in his role - he is a spent force and no one is really going to want to play for him. Every 6-10 ranked junior player is shitting themselves right now hoping they don't get drafted by the Habs and that absolute fuckwit of a coach. The fucking Habs have become the fucking leaf right in front of our eyes and it won't get any better until "It's on me" asswipe is gone!...and that's my contribution for the month of May people...sorry to be a killjoy but I am beside myself with loathing and hatred for what BBB has done to my beloved Habs. It makes me sick to my stomach to think about another 5 years of this shit. I really hope Geoff Molson just had other things on his mind and soon wakes to see what has happened...
Don't despair K3X, this mess won't continue for 5 more years. One more performance like we saw last season will see a dismantling of management and team. I plan to ride it out and not let Arrogant Fuckface rile me up anymore. Nothing I can do about it anyway. BBB has tied himself to his foxhole buddy and Molson will have no choice but to jettison both.
Lots of golf to be played and watched plus the NFL will begin training camps soon. I shot an 86 yesterday putting on greens that are still full of aeration holes from last fall. And it's still damn cold!
Finally, the Habs will NEVER be the wretched, shameless leaf!
BBB reportedly was one of the first to try to get Panarin, whom he offered more money than the Hawks but Panarin chose the Hawks citing their 'open style' of playing. Players won't want to come here, they see T'es rien coaching and how he publicly throws star players under the bus even when others blew their coverage, plays DDD no matter what to the detriment of Galchenyuk stunting the development of a potential future NHL star and can't even make a rookie coach decision whether he should be a winger or a centre FOR 3 FUCKING YEARS!
He hangs a plaque "NO EXCUSES" above the locker room door which does not apply where he is concerned, all he's done was make excuses for himself all season and his biggest one was TFS (how prophetic was that nick?) while he had no idea what the hell to do without him. Doesn't he realize that if Price is the only reason for the teams success that it makes him totally irrelevant? Moron.
Sadly, I think that's the whole point, if TFS is healthy the first 20 games he saves T'es rien's job and both he and BBB know it. They'll likely win enough games and all will be back to 'normal'.
No one famous appears to have passed this week! Amen!

2. Leave PFK alone, that includes you DGMB and MT2.

Like, I've said before, if they trade PFK, this team will be dead to me as long as the current management is in place.

ReplyDeletePFK is too good for eMpTysuit. He has more class in his pinky finger than the Buffoon does in his entire carcass.

DeleteI'll take a guess and say: because they live in the biggest, most populace city in the country they are self-important and want the rest of us to know it?
DeleteJust to add to moe's clarification: the leaf blatantly tanked, trading or shutting down for the season their best players, they were even more obvious than what Buffalo did last year. Toronto are celebrating their glorious 30th place finish. Outside of southern Ontario does anyone care about basketball? The jays? Ha! This is Red Sox country down here with the Yankees probably next in popularity. Keep gazing at your navel Toronto.
DeleteWhole lotta Prince.

ReplyDeleteYou're not missing anything.
DeleteHey, how about Leicester City winning the BPL?
DeleteYes - all big news over here. Tom Hanks apparently put a grand down some months back so at 5000-1 he's quids in as they say - but I'm not really a huge footie fan - I can take it or leave it really and I have no passion for it like I do/did for the Habs. So good for them.
DeleteSo BargainBin says he is willing to trade the #9 pick, could move up, could move down, could trade for an established player. But, he said he wants to build through the Draft... Which way is the wind blowing today Marc?
ReplyDeleteafter the first 3, the next 10 are all sixes. Logan Brown the 6.6 foot center could easily turn out to be number one pick. Trading up makes no sense. Like you said before, this draft will be long over when the next GM tries to develop the pick.
DeleteBergevin confirmed the #Habs are currently in contract discussions with prospects Artturi Lehkonen and Martin Reway.
ReplyDeleteDevelopment of these prospects includes orgiami with a focus on flying shapes, that they can launch from the press box anxd bonus points if they can hit the ice.
Too bad players can't put a 'depends who's coaching' clause in their contracts.
DeleteI would have my agent put an out clause in stating: "No dump and chase". At the first sign of this tactic I'm heading back to Europe.
DeleteFlames fired Harley, too bad "T’es rien" didn't win the Jack Adams.
ReplyDeleteHe'll be the next coach-in-waiting on antiChambre, maybe keep Blockhead's seat warm.
DeleteAC loves this guy.
DeleteWhat the hell are they going to come up with for store signage laws today to further antagonize business here?
ReplyDeleteGood morning FHFriends, many Maritimers work and live out in Fort MacMurray, let's wish all those folks, and the local people as well, all the best in these trying times.
ReplyDeleteYes, Godspeed to all and let's hope for heavy rains.
DeleteWe are all Canadians.
DeleteAbsolutely.
DeleteOn a lighter note....
ReplyDeleteMay the 4th be with you!
Nice.
Deleteironicly I do not have a single Star Wars adorment. I can do batmann

ReplyDeleteScrew you T’es rien.
DeleteThe DGMB condumdrum. Cant trade for a good player, cant sign a good free agent, cant develop a good player, cant get eMTy to stop using DDD as a first line center.
ReplyDeleteGagnon signing a slightly different tune this morning. Still says that T’es rien is a good coach but MB made a mistake end of season because he spoke too soon and didn't know Hartley would be available and to remember that Hartley said when he won the Jack Adams 'show me a good goalie and I'll show you a good coach'.
ReplyDeletePolitics, it's all in the name, you're great till a another name comes along.

ReplyDeleteHere's the bottom line in my mind now.
ReplyDeleteWell said the M.
DeleteThe M - spot on as always - sadly - it will be Geoff Molson who see the light.
ReplyDeleteDon't despair K3X, this mess won't continue for 5 more years. One more performance like we saw last season will see a dismantling of management and team. I plan to ride it out and not let Arrogant Fuckface rile me up anymore. Nothing I can do about it anyway. BBB has tied himself to his foxhole buddy and Molson will have no choice but to jettison both.
DeleteLots of golf to be played and watched plus the NFL will begin training camps soon. I shot an 86 yesterday putting on greens that are still full of aeration holes from last fall. And it's still damn cold!
Finally, the Habs will NEVER be the wretched, shameless leaf!
Hear, hear, the M & K3X!
DeleteBBB reportedly was one of the first to try to get Panarin, whom he offered more money than the Hawks but Panarin chose the Hawks citing their 'open style' of playing.
Moron.
Nice rant!
DeleteI'm giving MT2 the first 20 games and DGMB the season.
Sadly, I think that's the whole point, if TFS is healthy the first 20 games he saves T'es rien's job and both he and BBB know it. They'll likely win enough games and all will be back to 'normal'.
Deletewe are now a make the playoffs team, not a win the cup team, make the playoff players are easy
