While I appreciate BBB finally speaking out yesterday, one of the reporters asked him directly why the PK trade speculations won't go away, and I just wish BBB had said "Because you fuckers made it up and won't let it go." Except in a more pc way.

Probably won't bother watching the draft. If so, I certainly won't tune in until well after AusMat has had his life sufficiently destroyed by being picked by the compost heap and the SFU have finished bukaking the tv cameras.

Hey guys! I'm late to the party 'cause Mrs. Maritimer and I watched a movie on Netflix and I've been fast forwarding through all the snet bullshit. So, Wow, MB ditches one of Arrogant Fuckface's doghouse favourites and a DD roadblock. Poor Lego, poor Steve, his avatar is now like Big TiTs, only a memory.

I like the Andrew Shaw pickup, someone mentioned CHarger above, I was thinking the same thing, he's tough but got better hands than Prusty. I like the pick too, if it wasn't going to be Dubois or Nylander the Russkie was the best choice, replacing General Vodkov down the road. MB didn't fucked up.

    ReplyDelete
  58. "...forward Andrew Shaw has been suspended one game for using a homophobic slur and fined $5,000 for directing an inappropriate gesture toward a referee during Game 4 of the team's first-round series with the St. Louis Blues, the league announced Wednesday."

  62. I am all in with the win now, so why did we not trade DDD for a bag of pucks

    ReplyDelete
  63. Eh, whatever. Sad to see Eller go but I'm sure he'll thrive in Washington which he had no chance of doing in Montreal. Both trades smell of MT and old time hockey relationships. At the end of the day, doesn't change much.

But while reading about possible trades, I kept seeing speculation that MTL is realistically in the hunt for Stamkos. Personally, I don't see it happening. It did get me thinking, though. When's the last time the Habs had a superstar skater? I only count Price (though he has more to prove, i.e. a Cup) and Roy to be actual superstars in my lifetime (1980 onwards). I also put PK on the cusp of this distinction, but he still needs to do more in his career. I believe I remember reading a while back that Damphousse was the last Hab to end up top 5 or 10 in scoring, and that was in 93 or so.

Never mind superstars, how about elites? Ok, they've got Patches and PK now. Before that...I mean they had some names but at the end of their careers (Briere, Vanek, Kovalev, etc). Koivu was awesome, but I'm not sure 'elite' given his actual numbers and injuries.

Anyway, just goes back to the fact that I doubt Stamkos ends up in Montreal. The Habs will just have 3 lines of 4th line grinders as long as MT and MB are around. But Price is healthy now, so our world is saved. For now.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I will Hate DDD this year, I am bitter

    ReplyDelete
  66. At least we made room for DDD

    ReplyDelete
  67. the Maritimer8:17 AM

So they have two buzzing gnats instead of one, still no elite forward, a bunch of 5th line stiffs and a goalie with a wonky knee. I don't see a whole lot of improvement for the immediate future. Bargain Bergy has set the bar low, not any where close to Montreal Canadiens level. Oh well.

Good luck to Lego, I liked him as a player but he was miscast by a moron coach who never liked him because he was a threat to his little lap dog favourite. Hopefully the Caps and Trotz will get him a shot at the Cup.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Goodbye Lego

Bergevin filed a complaint with the league regarding Benning's radio interview. "The league is looking into it," he said.

Benning also said he planned to call Steven Stamkos' agent when the free agent interview period begins Saturday. After the NHL spoke with Benning about the tampering allegations, he refused to discuss any players that belonged to other organizations."

I am more down because next season will look very similar to last season. Shaw will not score any more goals than Lego but because he can kill off PFK's penalties, eMTy will be satisfied and he is no threat to wee Davey's status. 90. The Habs draft picks are tainted with a form of small pox, forcing the owner of said picks to draft tiny individuals. With #39, the Hawks drafter a 5'7" forward and with #45, picked up an under 6' defenceman.

So BBB picked up CHevy, Skeeter (Bitten is the size of a mosquito) and Mr. Freeze (DC Comics - Victor Fries is Mr Freeze...and who doesn't like Fries and Mete?!) and 3 other guys - Sleepy, Sneezy and Dopey until they prove they deserve a real nickname.

And the S FUCKING U still won't let the PK thing go. FFS IATG I guess. Thing is for PK, as far as getting respect from the league and other fans, he'd probably get more anywhere else. But fuck them all. He's a Hab forever. And one day when the foxhole is destroyed, he and Price will bring us back to respectability. I DO still believe that.

  91. First Big TiTs and now Lego, the players with the best nicknames since the Rocket traded away for bags of pucks. We should have given Chicago two seconds to take wee Davy. I am afraid to pick a new fav player because he is sure to be traded.

    ReplyDelete
  92. We keep getting all the players Bergy fell in love with at Chicago. Why did we not get Brandon Saad. Lego could have beeen part of that package, Instead we are building a team not of big tough grinders, of little ankle bitter grinders. Lead by the worlds smallest Zamboni DDD.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Habs have a projected cap space of $9,696,668, I wonder how much of that BBB will give Shaw. Strange that he wants to give him term and he hasn't even played 1 friggin' game. Shouldn't he have to prove himself first, like a certain Norris Trophy holder had to do? Can you imagine what would have happened if PFK ever verbally abused a ref like he did? Fucking double standards.

People can think whatever they want about PFK, like him or not but he sure has taken a lot of shit from the current management and he somehow rises above it and lets it roll off his back, many would have demanded a trade to get the hell out of dodge long ago. PFK earns what he earns, if they weren't so hell-bent on trying to break his spirit instead of embracing it and gave him term and the reported $5M or $5M+ he was asking for then, there wouldn't be all this 'trade' drama there is now due to his NMC and salary. BBB created his own soap opera and July 1 can't come soon enough for me when PFK can give them the middle finger.

Sorry, but all the love and kisses thrown around publicly by BBB at the draft sooner than they can put his name on the jersey has rubbed me the wrong way. Not saying that I don't like Shaw but it's like how some would feel towards the teacher's pet. Hopefully BBB will manage the dollars without favouritism merely because he brought him to Chicago.

He hasn't done enough yet. Shaw will not help up front, they need at least two legitimate top 6 forwards. Can he sell Montreal to any top tier UFA? All it took to get Petry to sign was some poutine. He can't count on youngsters like Ghetto or Lekhonen to be much help because eMTy will bench them at the first opportunity. We all know this. If BBB decides to stand pat and count on Price remaining healthy, I suspect they will be a lottery team again. Price can't score, so unless he pitches a lot of shutouts they lose more than they win. That's my nickel's worth.

    2. Good points the M.

Can't say I'm full up on CHevy but if he comes in as the next CHArger with more goals/points, I'll be cool with it. Hope DGMB doesn't overpay or overstay the term.

Agree a point getter/scorer is missing. Whomever that ends up being better not be fucking railroaded by MT2. CHevy, because CHI and Coach Q, isn't a dump and chaser. Cap'nK will see to CHanges.

    3. Brian Wild hits some very good points in his assessment but I won't buy into it until Canada Day, when PFK is here to stay. I am convinced that top scorer everyone says we need (I agree BTW) will come in exchange for him. I don't trust BBB - he's a fucking ego maniac snake. I hope I am wrongdoing really hope I am wrong...

    5. @K3X Part of me says no way he trades him but a tiny part of me has a nagging doubt. BBB filed a complaint with the league against Benning for confirming he had talks with Montreal. My thought was do GMs typically do that? and I thought maybe you doth protest too loudly, then I read reports that other GMs also complained so maybe not? I guess the bottom line is I just don't have enough faith in him, though he did finally give PFK some 'praise' publicly. Then the doubter in my head thought maybe he was doing a little 'marketing'?

BBB would be a complete fool if he moved him. See how they screw with our heads?

    6. Everything you have said, Juce, I agree with. The problem I have is one of trust. He's a weasley sniveling coward sonofabitch and I don't trust him as far as I could throw him. His "performance" at that end of year jerk off was the final straw for me. He knows best and fuck you if you don't like it. I've never been so insulted in all my life! Besides Price, the only other name he has is PFK yet he wouldn't cross the rink to piss on him were he on fire! If he gets offered a starting top 6 player from anywhere along with a draft choice, he'll take it - mark my words. I won't sleep easy on this front until I wake up Friday morning to find that PFK remains a Hab...

    2. Again, per Basu:

Under Michel Therrien, Lars Eller's most frequent linemate at 5-on-5 was Alex Galchenyuk. He played 38.2% of his total 5v5 minutes with him.

      For comparison under Therrien:
Desharnais: 59.3% of his 5v5 minutes with Pacioretty.
Plekanec: 35.8% of his 5v5 minutes with GIONTA

Gionta's been gone for two seasons and he:
      1) Remains Plekanec's most frequent linemate under Therrien
      2) Their frequency almost beat Eller

Then someone asks: and the other 62.8% with whom?
Hardly definitive 38%! and he answers:

In order: Galchenyuk, Prust, Bourque, Sekac, Gallagher, Plekanec, Weise, JDLR, Gionta, Andrighetto, DSP

I once read an article comparing Bergeron and PleXXXe and the comparison of stats and roles for both vs the turnstile of linemates PleXXXe has had. Quite telling, I'll post if I find it again.

  107. Scotty Bowman gives high praise for Shaw. He also writes that the Hawks invited him to join them at the draft and he spoke with many scouts and when the Habs selected Sergachev they told him they would not regret their choice and that they all believe he could have played in the AHL last season because he's very talented and mature for a player of his age. Bowman says this kid could just be BBB's life-preserver when Vodkov and he wouldn't be surprised if he makes the team next year.

I think SergaCHev's nickname is CHevy, lets call Shaw "Cable".

I don't think Bargain Bin will trade PFK for a high end forward unless it is for someone like Crosby. If he does manage to pull it off he as to have an elite D coming in a separate trade as well.
