R. I. P. Gordie Howe
ReplyDeleteOh my!...2016 strikes again! So sad! RIP
DeleteThis news kinda takes an edge off of another super SF Moeman. Great job just the same...
DeleteR.I.P. Mr. Hockey.
DeleteRIP Gordie
DeleteR.I.P. Gordie Howe, aka Mr. Hockey, aka Mr. Elbows. If anybody tried to run him from behind that's what they usually got, an elbow to the chops. The greatest Right Wing of all time, the Rocket was a close second.
ReplyDeleteR.I.P. Mr. Howe. I will never forget how proud he looked skating with his two sons as Hartford Whaler teammates. He was one of the all-time great athletes of the 20th Century and a true fighter right up to the end. An inspiration for all of us who rail against the dying of the light; who do not wish to go so gently.
ReplyDeleteTFS has a new goalie coach.
ReplyDeletehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XE_3hPvAHhg
Although my memories of Mr. Hockey actually playing are him in a Whalers uni (and maybe a Houston one), even then he was still pretty darned good.
ReplyDeleteThe Great One was on Dan Patrick this morning telling stories. My favourite was one that when Howe was still playing for the Whale, at age 50, there was an optional practice on an off-day. Howe showed up, ready to go. Coach asks "what are you doing here???" and Howe says "I need the practice!". At 50. Coach hid his skates so Howe would have a day off and some rest.
RIP.
I thought a Gordie Howe hat trick was a goal a fight and an elbowing penalty.
ReplyDeleteGo Habs
Very good read on Gordie Howe; https://first-draft.com/2016/06/10/goodnight-mr-hockey/
ReplyDeleteGood Morning everyone, do I have time to mow the lawn, play a round of golf and go see the X-Men tonight? Sure I do. Ciao!
ReplyDeleteNo time Mrs. the M.?
DeleteMrs. the M. got her time yesterday, all day. She happy... ;-)
DeleteCanadiens agree to terms on a one-year contract with forward Sven Andrighetto
ReplyDeleteokay he is a less than a million player and DDD is worth 3.5 times as much? He speaks French does he not?
DeleteA real betty and wilma. I only heard of The Last Kingdom a few days ago. If you love Vikings you will love the Last Kingdom. The question is which one would you take home?
ReplyDeleteAnybody watch Bridge of Spies? I see it's on Netflix - wonder if it's worth 2 hours of my time
ReplyDeleteonly if you want your lizard brain updated
Deleteif you want to update teh astaral plane watch Upstream Color and St Paddy why spend 12 bucks a month on a limited selection when you can have the world for free at Kodi?
DeleteTwo potentiel pure wool superstars on the table we will pick one. Draft up or draft down, big decisions for the monkey men. I am going with draft down. The draft is a crapshoot, if we want Gauthier later pick him up with DDD and a bag of pucks
ReplyDeletethe thing about the draft afer the first ten picks you might as well buy a loterry ticket. And the odds are closing down with all the analytics, no more sleepers for the math guys. We got a three year window we need washers that can work high in that time frame, outside of the ten, not going to find a single guy.
DeleteSteve I'm trying to steel myself to cut the cable. My only fear is my sports addiction. I know there's a way to find many sports through kodi or similar devices...just gotta work through the addiction. Can't go cold turkey!
ReplyDeleteI would cut the cord in a New York minute but I like the local early evening news.
DeleteKodi is the cat's meow but sports is hit and miss.
its rare to be without NHL, this season can only think of a couple of times. Between Phoniew, Castaway, Sports Center, and Sports Devil you can almost always find HD streams. Other sports are is seems more available. An M for local news Global, CTV and CBC there are links available to watch it after the fact. I used to watch the CTV national but its so full of spin I just gave up. You can live stream BBC, CNN, mSNBC and with USTV stream just about any tv shows live. I admit watching CND news on Kodi is an effort.
DeleteDDD's agent fleeced BBB three years ago. Plus, he was the only pure wool available and RDS and La Presse told Geoff to get it done or else. Bargain Bergy has since flushed out a couple more quail so likely DDD is done like dinner. He will end up a playercoach for the WhalerCaneDiques in two years.
ReplyDeleteWith an announcement to expand to Vegas imminent, I guess that would impact the upcoming draft and contract decisions made and since Bettman seems to be tailoring an expansion draft that will favour Vegas icing a 'competitive' team, they will likely be able to pillage almost at will.
ReplyDeleteThe NHL sure seems to be dragging out these SC finals eh? NBC even dictates they can't play hockey on a Saturday night. Gary's still got the double middle finger salute to Canadians. Fuck him I still haven't watched a single minute of the playoffs.
ReplyDeletesame here, not even highlights, and now we are going to have our closet raided by the Vegas expansion team, fuck Buttman, there should be two less. maybe three teams. Canes, Panthers, Yotes bye bye,.
DeleteVegas....gotta 'grow the game' HA
DeleteAll it will do is create less money for Canadian teams who support the majority - money losing teams in places they have no right to be in. You can't sell meat to a market full of vegetarians.
I think I've watched a total of 1 period. SFUers make it even more of a horror show.
DeleteR.I.P. to all those affected by gun nut terrorism in FLA.
ReplyDeleteMy God, 50 people. R.I.P.
DeleteSadly, this is the new normal. When the majority of the country believes strongly in the right to carry weapons and the relative ease in acquiring them, this is to be expected. After Sandy Hook, I gave up caring about it. I don't even flinch when I hear about the "latest massacre". This "new record" lasted what - 7 months? Sorry to seem so callous but that's the way it is now.

They assembled the finest hockey minds in the world and traded Phil for a bag of pucks/
ReplyDeletePhil got the last laugh on the SFUckers. I would be rubbing it in their collective faces the next time I was back in tranna.
DeleteOops. looks like the Count almost dropped the Cup.
ReplyDeleteLooks like GaGnon was right about the SFU not voting Phil 'over their dead body' for Conn Smythe
ReplyDeleteFrom one Maritimer to another: Congrats Sid. I wish you were a Montreal Canadien.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Mario and Sid's Pens.
DeleteJim Rutherford: A wiley old vet GM, traded away a shit load of draft picks, but recognized what he needed and acquired it, canned an under-performing coach and won it all.
ReplyDeleteMarc Bergevin: Collected a shit load of 5th line stiffs, traded for nobodies, pulled his under-performing coach into his foxhole and blamed every thing on Carey Price's knee.
Pens fire Therrien wins the Cup, Rutherford fires Johnson wins the Cup 7 years to the day. Laraque said at the time that Sid wanted "T’es rien" fired because of the way he treated Fleury (not sure if that's true or not, just sayin').
DeleteOur busts with Le Brow and Tin Tim have been devestating. If we fuck up this pick were fucked. Okay we are already fucked so just throw darts at the board.
ReplyDeleteMark Barberio signed for 2 years, one-way contract, $750 000 AAV
ReplyDeleteI like Barberio.
Mike Yeo has been hired to Ken Hitchcock's staff as an assistant and will take over as head coach in 2017-18.
ReplyDeleteSurprise, surprise...not.
ReplyDelete"A person with direct knowledge of the NHL's decision says the league has settled on Las Vegas as its choice for expansion, provided organizers can come up with a $500 million fee.
The person spoke Tuesday on condition of anonymity because details have not been released by the league ahead of its Board of Governors meeting on June 22. Quebec City was also considered for expansion.
A second person who had been briefed on the decision said Las Vegas was a ''done deal'' following the recommendation of the NHL's executive committee."
Canadian Federal Judge slaps a ban on the sale of Kodi boxes. We need a hero!!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe if the big cable providers stopped financially raping their customers, they would find they actually keep more of their customers. Nah...that can't be it.
Delete@Saint Paddy, a guy on The Exchange on CBC said the same thing the other night. Lower your prices for content and people might actually be willing to pay for it. What a concept! As for streaming devices...get them quick, once you have one you're OK, or just use your laptop. The Man will never be able to stop freedom of the airwaves or the internet.
DeleteIf you guys have cell phones that are not Apple, then try out an app called MOBDRO. I have it on my Android phone and I can now watch any sports channel free of charge. It allows you to cast onto Bluetooth enabled televisions so it doesn't mean you are on a tiny screen. Running on wifi is perfect. I could, not that I want to, but I can watch TSN or SN...
DeleteWhile I want to say "BAH! VEGAS!? Terrible ideal.", the thought of a trip to Vegas in January to catch a game along with a show and a bit of gambling doesn't sound terrible.
ReplyDeleteTrue but I just don't like the underhanded way the league went about it IMO, QC had an arena way before Vegas and they waited until Vegas got one built, their excuse for choosing Vegas over QC is the value of the Canadian dollar, really? Even with the dollar fluctuation over the years, the Canadian teams combine for the majority of league revenue according to Forbes. 7 teams support losing US markets. Arizona is one example and not long ago, Panthers used to give free tickets just to put bums in the seats.
DeleteQC. never had a chance of getting a team, Bettman insists on 'growing the game' and has tailored the expansion draft to give them a head start. I read something somewhere that Bettman would not consider any losses for the the first 4 years. Nothing ever seems to be above board.
So is Vegas a done deal then? I thought it wasn't going to be announced until next week??
DeleteOne thing I love about living in the UK is that during major soccer tournaments, if England is playing, everything stops no matter what time of day it is. So Thursday sees most of the UK taking a long, late lunch as England plays Wales at 2.30 pm BST. Most businesses expect to not see the male staff back after lunch and if they do come back it will be late and they will be most likely be hammered. One of our suppliers is hosting a party so that's where I'll be - strengthening supplier relations!!
ReplyDeleteNot meaning to be sexist at all - I should add, any female footie fans are not expected back either - and for sure they will be hammered!
DeleteHave FHFun!
DeleteYikes! Frost warning in northwestern NB tonight, bring in your tomato plants!
ReplyDeleteWarmer weather on the way, s'all good man. See what I did there.
Oh yeah, old friend Kyle CHipchura will be a UFA July 1. He lost some skating ability after getting his achilles sliced in junior but I liked him.
Yup, liked the original CHip.
DeleteLove tomatoes. See what I did there.
Did some urban gardening on my balcony last season but without a car I have a hard time hauling earth home so today I am experimenting with 'recycled food', after cleaning a romaine lettuce, you keep the stump that you usually cut off and throw away and place it in a container of water in an area with direct sunlight CHanging the water daily and in a few days you're supposed to see leaves and roots sprouting and in a few weeks you can either plant it or if you don't have a garden keep it in a container and keep CHanging the water daily till you have a new lettuce. Rinse repeat and start over...just like "T’es rien". You can do the same with green onions. We'll see how it goes, however I seem to have to chase the sun in my place.
DeleteVery interesting juce. Have you tried herbs?
DeleteLast year I did basil and rosemary, amazing to see things grow right before your eyes and what a pleasure to just go pick something right at your fingertips when you wanted it. After 'harvest' I hung the rosemary to dry and then put in a mason jar, it's delicious rubbed with a little olive oil on veal or pork CHops. The basil made a great tomatoe-basil pasta sauce and I used it plenty of times in salads and with mozzerella over sliced tomatoes and some balsamic dressing. Man I love summer!
