I want to move on from PFK, but I don't think I will ever forgive MB for trading his dynamic, offensive, visible minority, pillar of the community, fan favourite coming into his prime defenceman and keeping his out-of-date, bullying, white, probably bigoted (in a Parizeau-like way) coach that absolutely nobody likes. I don't care how many of his teammates didn't like him, this is a move that will haunt this team for years to come and ultimately lead to his firing. Our FHFriend Chester likes it but he would be in the definite minority. I just can't buy into it. Bergevin (no longer worthy of even a mocking nickname) has lost me as a supporter. I'm just counting down the days until he and Therrien are gone.

I will not read one more word that is uttered from either bergevin's or therrien's mouth. It's either a lie or bullshit. Actually, I couldn't even listen to or read anything that came from Captain America 67 last season, it was one cliche after another. Repetitive and boring. The only thing I'm looking forward to is if any of the kids can make the team out of camp until the arrogant fuckface sends them to the pressbox or Newfoundland. He is no judge of talent or character. Hopefully Muller has some veto power.

    5. My final word on the PK trade. I'm a huge fan of him as a player and even more so as a person. Though I couldn't fathom trading him, with all of the rumours leading up to the event, I had steeled myself to be 'OK' with a trade with the Oilers if the return was Taylor Hall or a swap of picks plus a lesser player like Yak or rnh. Because this team needs scoring FFS!

Anyway, excited to see Weber in the CH.

“This can’t be real,” said a social worker at the Montreal Children’s Hospital, her office mere steps from the atrium that bears Subban’s name.

“There’s going to be a lot of crying children here,” she added. “It’s not just the donation he made. He showed up here unannounced all the time, he developed relationships with them, brightened their lives. He was a God to them.”

My two cents - I believe MB when he said that trading PK was the hardest decision he has had to make as GM. There's no way they did this lightly, that's for sure. I believe he would do the best thing fir the team, this is a business after all and it is his arse on the line, not ours. I'm okay to sit back and see how next season rolls. I cheer for the front of the jersey, not the back. Okay then, carry on.

    3. Both MB and MT's arses (MT's at the very least) should have been on the line after last season's debacle. If they couldn't develop PK instead of trying to break him and mold him into what they wanted then that falls on them and their inability to bring in people that could (ie Larry Robinson) but MB chose to bring in his childhood friends (JJD) and put THEM above the team. Bringing in Muller, IMO would have made a huge difference as he can relate and communicate with the players. MT and MB have done nothing except treat PK like crap since they were hired and I believe that that approach may have caused PK to not see things with their 'old boys' club' eyes .MB keeps bringing up Chicago lately, perhaps to justify bringing in players he's helped draft there because this team is certainly not Chicago.

MB will make this team better the moment he gets the hell out of here and takes MT and DDD the hell with him.

I don't see this as merely a business decision, I see this as egotistical 'we have the last word and we hold the authority to do as we please'and fans, the city and setting back the team years be damned because we know everything an you know squat. Nothing but arrogance and disdain for their fanbase. He panicked because of the NMC he himself gave PK after he mishandled the contract by giving him the bridge instead of term PK was asking at a much lower cap than he ended up with.

  36. Juce you are so right on with your comment here. MB is a liar. I asked Brian Wilde how he can do his job when the person he relies on for information lies to his face. Still waiting for feedback. MB let his ego get in the way of everything. But eh biggest thing for me is trust. He is a liar. Evefything he delays is now a lie as far as I am concerned. He has zero credibility. He is a liar and a fraud. He has sealed his fate and will be gone as soon as the Habs miss the playoffs once again. I cheer for the front of the Jersey as well and it sickens me when the people behind the Jersey are such huge frauds. The Montreal Canadiens deserve better.

One source I have says both bergevin and therrien did not like PK, so it was going to end badly no matter what. I say when empty threw PK under the bus after the Colorado loss he was toast and his injury... pfff what a crock.

I cheer for the crest as well, but sometimes the people in charge make mistakes. Letting Saku walk for nothing was one of them. People have to be accountable and right now there seems to be none, especially for arrogant fuckface.

If I was bergevin I'd be keeping a low profile the next couple of months, maybe visit Chicago for a while.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Yes, they make mistakes for sure. But we don't know how this will play out so let's see. I'm not emotionally attached to anyone on the team, I just want to win. And yes, Saku's departure hurt but I moved on as soon as the new season started. Always rooted for him as plan B of course once the Habs were out of the playoffs. But the Habs will always come first to me above any single player.

  40. OK OK one more thing about PK. Nothing to do with the foxholers, but the SFU. It's fucking amazing how much better PK got just by being traded out of Montreal. While still a Hab, all the know-it-all pundits were in agreement that PK wasn't even good enough to crack the top 7 for team Canada. Since the trade I've read multiple articles defending him, his 'analytics' (whatever the fuck that means) and how much better he is NOW than Shea Weber, never mind 3 years from now, AND explaining how PK is one of the top 4 or 5 dmen in the league. In the league ffs! So 2 weeks ago he wasn't good enough to even knock fucking Pickles Edward Vlasic, who looked fucking awful in the last 2 rounds of the playoffs, out of a roster spot for Team Canada. Now he's one of the top 4 defencemen in the world. They are fucking hilarious. We can thank our lucky fucking stars at least that Bergy didn't send him home to Toronto. I'll be watching with great interest PK's career, but like moe I've moved on and I am excited to see Weber in the CH (even if 3 or 4 years ago would have been waaaay better).

Can't wait to see him on the PP (instead of DDD). Will be interesting to see if BBQ gets a slot or point shot position on the PP. A dozen or two PP goals and those one goal losses disappear. KidA and Shw (needs a nic) will be pestering opponent coaches to have goals reviewed, a lot. Have fun babCock. Bonus will be seeing BBQ lay some nice CHecks and protect TFS™ from some kreidering. The Webber was brought in to lead, search and destroy.
The list of respectable hockey players who are happy they don't have to play against him on a regular basis grows.
      That's high praise.
      Go Habs.

  52. Honestly as much as I believe AF is the dumbest coach every to have an NHL job, he must have some kind of pro credentials. BBB is trying to win the cup and he at least has a resume. The PFK trade was not personal pique or racism. It was business, just business, and the thing about business is you do it with people you like.

  53. I be done with PFK now, unless he is genuine fodder for a great snarky remark. You dont go into the hockey season with the team you want, just the team you love.

Seriously, the new Place Bell is at Montmorency metro (Orange line, north terminus), while the Phone Booth is at Lucien-L'allier metro (Orange line, downtown), about a 35 minute ride between the two. That could be nuts for days with one team playing on a afternoon, while the other plays the night. RDS should try to get the rights to the entire season of AHL games.

    1. Molson will save quite few pesos on plane fare. When they call someone in to sit in the pressbox they can buy a day pass for a mere $10 and that's good for 24hrs. If a guy's up longer to replace for a minor injury he can get a weekly pass and if the doctor's mis-diagnose the term of the injury (see TFS) Geoff can spring for the monthly pass and if they're still wrong just keep opt to keep going with the monthly.

Maybe he's anticipating less than a full house this season and is preparing for the worst.

  61. 'A source told Sportsnet that Matt Pfeffer, who was hired as an analytics consultant at the beginning of the 2015-16 season, made an impassioned and elaborate presentation to management to dissuade them from following through on this trade.

Ignoring Pfeffer’s advice only served to reinforce the notion that Bergevin was following different criteria in his evaluation of both players, said the source, who also suggested Pfeffer’s vehemence on the matter might have ultimately cost him the job (he was told on Wednesday that his contract won’t be renewed). The Canadiens would not comment on why they aren’t renewing his contract, but they did say that they are looking into other analytics solutions.'

  63. 'Pfeffer made a passionate presentation to the club's brass in an effort to convince them not to make the deal that sent the star defenseman to the Nashville Predators for Shea Weber, a source told Sportsnet's Eric Engels on Wednesday.

Pfeffer's insistence on the subject might have led to his dismissal, the source said, adding that when general manager Marc Bergevin ignored Pfeffer's advice, it reinforced the idea that the GM was using other criteria to judge the players.

Canadiens senior management reached out Thursday to Engels to say they are "very committed to analytics" and will be bolstering that department, reiterating the club's response to his initial report of the club parting ways with Pfeffer.

The longtime analytics specialist, who formerly assisted the San Jose Sharks and Hockey Canada, was reportedly informed Wednesday that his contract with the Canadiens would not be renewed.

The club told Engels on Thursday it's in the process of figuring out who to add to the analytics department.'

I guess they'll have to hire a new stats guy now to try to save face but they're too late.

There's way too much ink being used on the PFK saga. It boils down to this: therrien didn't like him or his game and bergevin bought in. It's that simple. Just like when Gainey threw away McDonagh in the Nomez deal, this was the waste of a really good draft pick and, it sounds like, a really good human being. Will it come back to bite them? Probably, down the road, but I wish the media would move on from this. I'd like to just forget about it, all it's making me do is resent Habs management more and more every day.

  66. Gainey did make a huge mistake trading RD but he accepted PK's personality and was not intimidated by it, he embraced it.

    2011
Bob Gainey spoke to the media on the eve of the Heritage Classic and had the following to say about players from other teams crying about PK Subban. (Not mentioning any names, of course, like Joffrey Lupul and Mike Richards and a bunch of Bruins for example).

This comes from Dave Stubbs reporting from Calgary for Habs Inside/Out.

“(Subban) is a very talented player,” Gainey said. “Anyone who’s met him knows that his personality is outgoing, overflowing, and it hasn’t yet been tempered with full maturity. I think he should have fun and play. Some of those people should shut up and play against him. Just keep their mouths shut and play.

“He doesn’t have a big, tough guy playing beside him to look after him, he looks after himself. Not everybody else in the league who is an outgoing above-average player plays in that position. I think Montreal is lucky to have him and the NHL is lucky to have him.”

  67. Like many in here I'm still saddened after seeing PFK dealt. I hope he does extremely well. We, Habs and hockey fans will miss his presence for sure.

The media yips about PFK are far from over. The SFU will do all they can to paint the CH in a bad light, of course helped by some weak management efforts.

I'm looking forward and I am excited to see what BBQ will do in front of TFS™. I think he will add huge leadership and this can only help, especially PatCHes and sadly MT2 who will take credit.

The window, pun intended, is open to win much sooner than later. The next 2-3 seasons must include, at minimum, a Stanley Cup Finals.

I can't bring myself to wish misfortune on my Habs, even if just to see MT2 turfed. He can dig his own grave. Captain Kirk to the rescue.

The SFU is going into fucked up gyrations and now list Habs' best players in the high 50s, low 80s, in comparison. Yeah, sure. FOAD SFU.

    1. I am in the minority thinking this was a professinal hockey trade. That the sum is greater than the parts when it comes to winning the cup. PFK was a round peg in a square hole, so you can change the hole or change the peg. It takes a wise man to know which to do. Maybe every coach in the NHL does so many obviously dumb things as AF overall. Maybe he has a master plan that we as mere mortals can not grasp. All I know is that MB has bet all the marbles on BBQ. So I am going to double down with him, and pray to God when the puck stops in game seven second ot it lands in the other guys net.

@moe, you are far more optimistic than I. If Weber or Price get injured for any extended periods, they are screwed again. Look how bad they were with Price gone early and then when PK went down. They don't have the offensive firepower to make up losses like that. At best they would be a bubble team and only if Montoya can hold the fort, and he couldn't possibly be worse than Scrivens. Let's all hope the injury bug goes somewhere else this year, like maybe tranna or beantown or even better Tampon Bay.

Yep, sure seems like the SFU are going out of their way to paint the Habs as clueless, as usual it will be just a distraction from their putrid leaf and their new wunderkind.

Bergevin has staked his career on this move and I think Molson has told him, if you're wrong you're done... along with all the Foxhole gang. We'll see.

  68. Matt Pfeffer:

“Prior to the trade, I submitted a report comparing both players. I made a passionate case in favour of P.K. Subban.

“There was never a meeting with management.

“Ultimately, this is the nature of this kind of work. Management makes their decision based on a variety of criteria. Their evaluation may have been different in this case, but there was consensus on other decisions through my time with the team.”

"The Canadiens treated me with the utmost respect," said Pfeffer. "They are a world class organization. I understand that they desired to go in a different direction. I was thankful to be a part of their team."
