  2. I wrote over at the FAceBook thing;

    I was discussing last night’s spectacular show with my great friends Bill and James and TBird. BC is bang on on all counts that there was a lot of emotion and even more was displayed on stage. The affinity the boys have is based on pure friendship. This was my 12th or 13th show. From a small club in Halifax, to the summer ARAs (Another Roadside Attraction), to a San Fran gig with a bunch of fellow Canadians, to many Ottawa-based shows, this one was truly the best. Of course the surrounding circumstances provided us with an even more special show but The Hip never, ever, disappoints. The setlist list (see below) and the encores and the playful updated rocking renditions of classics were superb. Gordie, in his own genial lyrical words, let it all out. Come on, shake that thing! So did the crowd. The Hip made sure to mention what Ottawa means to them. We gave it back in spades. Being there with my beautiful daughter Véro (a Hip fan since the age one 1, my favourite girl in the whole world BTW), surrounded by fanatics and lots of parent+children combos, proved to me that The Hip is generationally transcendent. Pure Canadiana but also pure honest feelings, deep-rooted, about what being Canadian truly is. Gordie reflects our good nature. He told us more than once to ‘take care of each other’. A true once in a lifetime experience, shared with a cherished band and an exquisite artist and human being in Gordie. Seeing Gordie scream lyrics and then really scream in between the lyrics was proof enough for me that the man appreciates life to its fullest. He has taught us many things about ourselves and our country and being part of a better world. The smirks, the goofiness, the swearing, the sheer joy of performing leaves a huge imprint on those of us that love The Tragically Hip. Its difficult not to want to keep saying more but I’ll end with saying that I have a new appreciation for my long time faves like Grace, Too, Poets and Ahead by a Century. The latter had me in tears. Thanks Gordie, thank you The Tragically Hip. Peace.

    2. the Maritimer7:17 AM

      Indeed, the IOC may be the most corrupt sporting organization on earth now that FIFA has been exposed. I don't give a crap about ticket scalping, that happens everywhere. I don't even care who is doping or whatever, cheating has been going on forever and I would bet my last dollar the US has a doping program the same as the Russians, they just haven't been caught. What I hate about the Olympics is the judging which is corrupt beyond measure. I'll be glad when this stuff is off the TV, it just fucks up my viewing habits for two weeks.

    2. Yep, AF is the big winner, who will one day get his contract paid out when the fools finally see how useless he was all along. He'll sit back with his feet up watching hockey from his living room, all the while smirking and smoking his stinky cigars and knowing that he got what he wanted ever since he took the panel on AC and laughing at every Habs fan who never wanted him back behind the bench.

  15. The Hip who I only discovered ten years ago, not to say I did not know about them. Are the evolution of Canadian flavored rock that may have started with Stompin Tom and moved through the Hawk to to the Hip. There are other bands in there that are in no ways bland, like Rush and the Guess Who. But when it comes to Maple Syrup they are the viscosity of blood in Canada.

BBQ and Vodkov will not play to gether just so AF can prove being a top puck moving d man is not important. Players will be encouraged to carry the puck over the blue line and make a play. 27. I hope that everyone is well and recovering from the Hip on Saturday night. I lost my father to a cancerous brain tumour back in 2001 so I have so much admiration for Gord Downie. I was very emotional watching it from over here. TBH I had lost touch with the Hip in recent years - as they don't sell in the UK but I have their first 4 albums which I play all the time. The Hip and Tom Cochrane formed a huge part of my playlist in the latter part of the 80's and early 90's.

    One note on that dressing room re-design - I hear they have removed the "No Excuses" slogan from the dressing room wall - I guess reality has finally hit home!

      I discovered the Hip in the late '80's. I have the first 5 albums and the first song that caught my ears was "Last American Exit". I always considered the Guess Who as Canada's No. 1 band until these guys came along with April Wine second. Gord Downie and the rest of the guys are lyrical geniuses and Rob Baker is an amazing guitarist. That concert will be on my PVR until it crashes. Maybe they will release a blu-ray of it.

  29. All AF and MB did last season was make excuses (' with a healthy Price, we're not sitting here today' among them.) and the sign was mentioned by the media with every excuse they made. They were publicly shamed so they had to take it down.

  42. Marinaro on another PK slag-fest and reasons why he thinks Team Canada didn't select him (other than the left-right thing), citing among other things, that he didn't support MT when he asked by the media that MB was bringing MT back this season when he replied that hockey is a result-driven business and he hadn't heard MB's presser so we'll see where he goes with that, and maybe Bab$ feels he could be thrown under the bus too or when MB blamed PK for an individualistic play that cost the game out by a someone in management and on and on.

    His co-host Jay Farrar says he knows for a fact why he wasn't. He was told flat-out by someone on Team Canada's management who he said he will not name "I fucking hate that guy".

    1. There is part of Marinaro that I am ok with but his incessant hatred for PK was always a problem for me. I could never put my finger on what it was - his tone often struck me as someone who was jealous. Another part of me heard someone who hated a toronto boy playing in Momtreal - once a leaf always a leaf - is how I sometimes read his emotions...but jealousy was often how I felt he came across. he hated that he was bigger than he was (personality) and that he got a shit load of money out of the Habs...so on those occassions - and like this time today - he's a dick. Move on!

    2. He asked a guy who covers the Blues who was better PK or Boumeister, he couldn't have liked it when he said PK.

      It just pisses me off that he keeps doing this when some fans are still a little raw over PK getting screwed over by "T’es rien"
