Jack Todd reminds me of a pendulum, swinging back and forth by inertia of motion, or a flag fluttering in whatever direction the (fair) wind happens to be blowing. He was calling for AF's head last year as loud as anyone. Now, he's a great coach with a great "System". Bullshit.

AF will never get any respect from me because he is first and foremost a bully. Carey Price is his "system". All he can do is blenderize his lines. Throw shit against the wall and see what sticks.

Any success the Habs have this year, and there's still a long way to go, belongs to Kirk Muller in my books. How did the team do after Gerard Gallant left? Not as good.

Screw you Jack, you're acting like a sniveling sycophant. AF is a big jerk with zero accountability. He is good at trashing players when it suits him, I'll give him that.

    1. In FrenCH we say, 'ça sent la Coupe!'.

Todd wavers like the best of them but I love his shots at the SFU from CotU. No one else puts those jackals in their place.

    2. Yep, Todd is beating that same drum as the rest of 'em. They seem to think if they tell us fans what to think or how we should see things will make it so, like the SFU do with their lemmings. Mind you, some do, I've spoken with people who praise AF for the team's success and how tight the room is now without PK (bang bang the drum) so AF must have been right
I guess the more they beat the drum, some are won over. The drum-beaters will never mention that until PK was injured he was leading the team in points during their free-fall without TFS. Sorry, I will never forgive that AF & MB for running him out of town. You can be damn sure if the team collapsed like that again, (but they won't because TFS is healthy and is the leader of this team) the room wouldn't be as 'tight' as it is now. It sure helps when many of the coach's former colleagues are the media. Last week I heard Marinaro say that it tends to be Anglophones who don't think AF is a good coach, I think the guest might the time may have been GAGnon. He, Nilan and some others now say they were wrong calling for him to be fired last year and he deserves the credit for their success now. Believe me, if they don't beat the drum, KidA gets pulled from his weekly slot. I have all the respect for Nilan, but he was also given a carrot on the air when Savard told him he told Molson that he should hire Nilan as an ambassador for the Canadiens and if I was in the same situation I wouldn't want to blow my chances. AF also sat in his old chair on AC this year. The guy who said AF called PatCHes was the worst captain in Canadiens history got fired by the station he worked for, that station was negotiating for the game rights when the IceCaps come to Laval. A team should never control the media and a GM should not run a team based on his friendship with the coach. No other coach has ever kept his job with the record he had last year - that says it all.
I agree about Muller, I can't remember AF ever giving a rookie PP time in his first NHL game, that has to be Kirk.

I want my team to win, I wish the players to do well, but I will never root for the current management and the drum-beating media will never convince me what a great job they do with the team. TFS's injury was their excuse last year and saved their jobs and they know it, that is why they are using him with kid gloves now, they know the system collapses without him and they know what side their bread is buttered on.

I apologise to anyone I may have upset here but I will never support this management and I hate them for how they make me feel.

  3. I am on the record as saying the Habs will never win a Cup with AF behind the bench - nothing I have seen has changed my mind on that. I will be the first to admit my mistake if proven wrong...sadly - I won't.

So never mind that - they Habs are stiull rolling so hopefully they won't let the 10 ppoint road trip go to their collective head and legs - they need to come out hard and skate the bollocks off the Caps tonight. Continue to do whatever they have been doing to win - give the kids more ice-time and let's see where this gets us. Just fucking win! Go You Fucking Habs Go!

And for the record - I like Jack Todd...Another old timer I grew up with and have been reading this season is Ron Reusch - I always thought he knew what he was talking about when it came to the Habs and his daily game blog is pretty good - although he does cut some people too much slack from time to time...

  4. I join the echo chamber. As I type I am listening to TSN690 giving both AHL and NHL Habs coaching the great housekeeping seal of approval. The Habs are now the highest hockey IQ team in the league and it is not genetic, it is all nuture. So who am I gonna believe the stats or my own lying eyes.

Statistically TFS is about the fifh best goalie currently. What TFS brings and what BBQ represents is unshakable faith. This is the system. These AHL rugrats know that TFS and Dad are there, not AF.

Unshakeable faith has a shelf life just like a coach. Witness what is happening today in the USA. The good guys are having their ass handed to them by Trump because they have relyed on faith for 50 years and substance has caught their institution with a truth virus. I doubt it was the Russians, but dont shoot the messanger, Wikileaks revealed the DNC was rotten to the core and Hillary was the worst canditate for President ever. It was not Trump it was you. This is eirely similar to Jack Layton toppling Paul Martin and giving us a decade of Harpo. Now Justin has to clean up the mess, would it not have been so much better if progressives could just not only get along, but also be progresssive?

  5. Lets see how well the system works when DDD no longer has a bum knee. Eviel DAD will make a place for his son. The victim the big one, McD. His on the ice moves looks like a bag of hammers exploding in every direction dropped from a 20 story construction site. Never forget the same was said about the big M with less emphasis on awakward. When you play a game your CHaracter has many attributes and aside from Superman no one is good or bad at everthing. Mcd compared to DDD is like too players. Every NHL player is a role player and he must strut his stuff according to the direction of the Emperour. Hockey is a carefully controlled opera on ice and the coach the mistro
who must exploit the ruff and the smooth to create contuity between attack and defence in an intregrated way that overcomes the defences and offences that change dynamically in a on ice ballet that is precise as hell in the fog of personal combat. The most dangerous weapon in the world is a good soldier with a gun. DDD is a good soldier with a nerf gun. Mcd is a good soldier with a swiss army Panzerfaust Somewhat ackward to utilize but devistating if used under the right circumstances. DDD monments of useless brilliance are not contributing to the overall effect of winning the cup. On D day DDD does not make it off the beach.

Wow, good commenting folks. I like juce's analysis of the media cow-towing to the organization in order to keep their credentials. I thought for sure Stu Cowan was going to be black-listed when he was ripping AF and GMGQ for running PK out of town. Surprisingly, it didn't happen to my knowledge.

Winning makes everyone feel good and hey, I like my team winning also, but I don't trust the two clowns running the show.

Steve had some good political history going today. I'm no Trump supporter but the Democrats handed him the White House on a silver platter. They couldn't have picked a worse candidate, there was no way on God's green earth a Clinton was getting back in. Bernie Sanders was the guy to connect to the common man, but the DNC cut the feet out from under him. He wasn't "sexy", but neither was Hilary. Now you have a nut running things.

  7. Americans consider their president "Leader of the Free World". They call the winners of their 3 major sports (hint, hockey is not one) "World Champs". It's like those guys that drive those jacked up trucks with big knobby tires. My wife says they're overcompensating for other shortcomings. Or like the guy that publicly defends the size of his hands and his yuge johnson. Not naming names. I was working towards a point which I've since lost interest in remembering. So i'll close with this. Let's put a Cap in their ass and keep on winning. Fuck the SFU. And so long as the 'system' stays healthy and we remain in a playoff spot, I will no longer trash AF or MB. Not saying they don't deserve it still, just that there's no good in it. So one last "fuck AF."

      2. I was content to ignore The Clown and his trusted sidekick AF. I shouldn't have read Mr. Todd's ball-licking article, especially after I saw the headline. That's on me.

      3. Teams usually suck the first game back at their home rink after an extended road trip. If the Caps win, I hope Lego scores the winner, skates by the Habs bench and throws his mouthguard at AF.

I want the Habs to win and I dont really care how it happens, as long as it happens. They are winning overall now so I will shut up and watch. My whining wont help or endear me to anyone and it's not cool so I will leave it. I echo a lot of what Juce said. I know how I felt when I learned that PK had been traded and I know why I felt that way. I know who is to blame and won't soon forget it. I love BBQ but I loved PK too. They are both great hockey players - just different. And I am not in the room so I don't know what is best for the room. Time will tell.

thnx for not piling onto mt. merde. we all know how dumb eMpTy can be and how stubborn he can get in his ways. so long as he wins, i dont really care b/c ive always believed in not fixing whats not broke. there is something to be said for continuity and stability.

one of my greatest delights right now is how we are all united in our hatred to dwiddle dee and twiddle dumb. im not sure if u guys are okd enough, but back when #33 was still here, all his teams were likewise overly reliant on his own saviourness. of course it totally helped to have ludwigs shinpads, big birds reliability, svobodas puck movement, and CHelios's inner odeline. point is, i was similarly frustrated at PB because his teams could never score and would always grind out narrow wins on st.patricks back. when the devils did it (to even greater success) i finally understood the meaning of defense wins championships.

thus here we are now: its unlikely eMpTy and GMGQ will deliver a jennings trophy unless TFS plays all the games, but like the oilers, penguins and devils were, he just has to be clutch and i think we all agree he can do that sleeping.

the only criticism i can support is the lack of a killer pp and consistent secondary scoring. the rest has already been taken care of so thats why i resign myself to bite my tongue, gouge my eyes and raise a toast to how les glourieux have been comfortably ahead of the laffs and the broons the last few yrs. its ok if u dont believe me. tsn themselves said that the habs, rangers and crapitals have had the highest pt totals over the last (5?) yrs.

another piece of deja vu is how i agree with all of u in how i can never forgive running PKF out of town, but is there a twilight zone here in how they somehow traded CHelios for dennis? i was similarly super angry, but somehow that helped bring our last cup (even if dennis was injured towards the end).

That was a great comment by oleg above and I wanted to respond to it. I, too, recall watching those big, grinding Pat Burns coached teams back in the late 80’s and early 90’s backed by Saint Patrick. I remember wondering why it was so hard to stay awake during those games with only 2 or 3 goals scored per night. But let’s step back even further in time, to around 1984 when Jacques Lemaire returned after a year of coaching in some fucking B league in Switzerland honing his trapping, offense killing skills and threw the Flower under the bus. Then it was off to New Jersey where he had Fat Marty and his Michelin Man equipment to close off the net so even Wayne Gretzky couldn’t find a fucking hole to shoot for. When they won the Cup in ’95 that was the end of scoring in the NHL and all the other coaches, especially Arrogant Fuckface, fell in love with “coaching systems to prevent scoring above all else”.

The most entertaining hockey these days is usually found in the juniors or major midget, where the kids still want to skate, shoot, dangle, deke another player and are not afraid to commit a turnover. That all gets beat out of them when they arrive at the NHL.

I too hated the Chelios trade. And the Saint Patrick trade. And Kirk Muller. And PFK. Fuck, I hated it when Bob let Saku and l’Artiste walk for nothing and signed every fucking smurf that was available, although Squid was a good one.

Anyway, that’s my rant for the night. Oh, and DDD can fuck off to Switzerland or Germany next season, somewhere where Arrogant Fuckface and his puppet GMGQ can’t find him.

Yeah, oleg is happy with finishing ahead of the leaf and brOOns during the regular season, but as a child of the 60's and 70's winning the Cup was the only successful season. After nearly 25 years of shit hockey, many of us are getting fed up. I know 30 teams has changed all that. It's interesting how certain people give off a "vibe", whether they are congenial or "unlikeable". Even through a TV monitor, Mssr. Therrien seems like the latter. I've never met the man, so I base my feelings on things that have been reported in the media whether they are all true or not I have no idea but I've heard things through other people connected to the NHL world.

As a leader of young men or even teenagers you should present yourself in a manner that precludes bar fights, peeing in a bus stairwell or lighting up a dart "because I can".

My instincts about people are generally pretty good, I wouldn't hesitate to call him a bully and I have no use for those people.

I know why juce doesn't like him, that's no secret.

Did he deserve his second chance with Montreal? I would say the vast majority of Habs fans say no. I was against it from day one. I was against the hiring of Jacques Martin as well because I knew what he brought to the table. They didn't call him the Baron of Boredom for nothing. If they needed to hire a french speaking coach I would have preferred a new, younger face at least, instead of from the recycled pile of former NHL coaches. The last coach they had that played an entertaining style was Carbo. I thought he was a darn good choice. Bob Gainey thought otherwise.

Finally, I'll just say this: Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it.

Maybe the Habs will win their 25th Cup under Mssr. Therrien but somehow I doubt it. Not this year anyway.

      Delete
    2. True, running PK out of town was the icing on the cake for me but I disliked him as a coach before then. We all know how he favoured DDD to the detriment of other players and gCHyuk would never have been given his chance at centre if DDD wasn't injured last year, he has no problem throwing players under the bus while accepting zero responsibility. I could go on. True, my feelings about PK are no secret but is not the sole reason. What coach throws his captain under the bus about getting pucks all the while knowing he had a broken foot?

  67. AF is not 'selected' to the ASG, he got there by default.

'Under the All-Star selection process, the head coach of the team with the highest points percentage (points earned divided by total possible points) in each of the four divisions through games of Tuesday, Jan. 10 - the halfway point of the regular season - will guide the respective All-Star rosters.
Therrien's Canadiens (.683, 25-10-6) are guaranteed of posting the top points percentage in the Atlantic Division through Jan 10th.'
